The Set Builder will carry out the Purpose Statement and the objectives of the program.
Schedule:
- 2 hours per day, 20-30 days per year
- Season runs February 17th - April 20th
- Prefer current employment with Hutchinson Public Schools.
- Previous coaching experience in assigned activity is desirable.
- Has knowledge and background in the assigned activity.
- The stipend for this position is 1,066.80.
- The district will pay the coach a fixed stipend as delineated in Schedule C, of the master agreement with the Education Hutchinson. The stipend amount is considered a "nominal stipend". The amount of the stipend will not change based on the number of daily hours that are devoted to coaching/advisor duties or the team's level of success. If team enrollment is not met, the district may make staffing reductions that reflect program level offerings within the first two weeks of the program. Any service provided during this two-week timeframe will be paid on a weekly pro-rated basis. In addition, if the selected candidate is unable to fulfill coaching/advising duties for five or more days, the stipend paid will be prorated.

Description
The Fairfield Community Arts Center is seeking a Part-Time Theater Set Builder/Carpenter for year-round theater productions. The builders are responsible for constructing, painting, and working with tools and materials for theatrical rehearsals, productions, and special events. Responsibilities may also include; inspecting equipment, quality assurance of the set, translating sketches/designs and coordinating with other support staff. The set builder/carpenter will work alongside other theater staff, including the Production Manager, Theater Coordinator, and performers to plan and carry out the set construction for every performance.
Examples of Duties
- Preparation of stage, audio, and visual settings for shows and events, as well as maintenance of the quality of the set throughout a performance.
- Set up other components of the show experience in relation to show design in various places in the theater.
- Checking equipment functionality, utilization of machinery, proper use of tools such as paint brushes, electric drills, caulk guns, and other equipment.
- Repairing and troubleshooting set construction issues, as well as maintaining the work area for other professionals to ensure safety and productivity.
- Attend meetings with key professionals before rehearsals and help organize cues to perfect the order of execution for effects, music, and other sounds.
Typical Qualifications
Candidates for the Theater Set Builder/Carpenter may learn on-the-job; however, postsecondary training is an asset. Knowledge of power tools, basic construction, and a strong sense of design are highly encouraged. A certificate or associate's degree is preferred.
Supplemental Information
Hours vary between 10 to 30 hours per week and include evenings and weekends. The pay range for this position is 12- 16/hr depending on experience.
The majority of part-time employees of the City of Fairfield participate in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS). We also provide an Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and usage of department work-out facilities.

- Measures distances from grade stakes, drive stakes and stretch tight lines.
- Bolts, nails and aligns and blocks up under forms.
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Levels earth to fine grade specifications, using pick and shovel.
- Mixes concrete, using float, trowel and screed.
- Positions, joins and aligns and seals pipe sections.
- Erects scaffolding, shoring and braces.
- Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, or paint through hose to clean, coat or seal crevices.
- Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces, such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring using abrading tools or machines.
- Performs a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, mounting pipe hangers, and cutting and attaching insulating materials.
- Work is usually performed with other workers.
Ability to work without close supervision once directed on task.
Obeys and follows all safety rules on the job site and encourages others to do the same.
Maintains a good relationship with co-workers and works well with others to accomplish a task.
Physical demands of this position include lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally; 40-50 pounds frequently along with frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and handling.
