DEFINITION:
Performs journey-level sheet metal installation, fabrication, assembly and repair work.
Essential Job Functions

Lays out, cuts, shapes and constructs articles of sheet metal, including black and galvanized iron and steel, tin, copper, brass, zinc, and stainless steel.

Supervises apprentices and helpers.

Punches or drills holes for rivets, bolts or metal screws.

Grinds and files seams, joints and rough surfaces; burrs and turns edges.

Fabricates or repairs such sheet metal articles as roofing, gutters, flashing, louvers, ventilators, ducts, hoods, sinks, steam tables, trays, lockers, shelves, fire doors and metal windows.

Transfers patterns from blueprints to metal, using scale, compass, divider, prick punch and other layout tools.

Fabricates signs, ducts, vessels, etc., from plastics.

Solders, welds and brazes.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites in order to transport the necessary tools, equipment, and materials required to perform the job.

Maintains tools and equipment.
Requirements

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
Option I: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship training program* in sheet metal work of at least four (4) years duration.
Option II: Five (5) years of experience in sheet metal work in the building trades, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey-level**.

**Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.

A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions

PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERAT E:

This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

*Recognized is defined as an approved agency including but not limited to agencies such as the International Training Institute for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Industry. EXAMINATION CONTENT:

This examination will consist of an in-person interview which will assess Job Preparation, Knowledge and Skills, Problem Solving, and Oral Communication Skills weighted 100%.
The passing score for the assessment is 70%.

Purpose
Performs demolition and construction work on various types of ductwork, installs HVAC equipment, fabricates ductwork and ductwork hangers and a wide range of custom and specialty items not available from vendors. Working from drawings and sketches, performs layout work and duplicates samples as required.

+ Fabricates custom-made strainers using perforated steel, screening and expanded metal.

A Journeyman HVAC Sheet Metal Worker installs, operates, maintains, and repairs HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) systems, combustion equipment, and industrial air compressors. Sheet Metal Workers are trained in testing, adjusting, and stabilizing mechanical systems as well as servicing them. Workers will use mathematics and pattern layout development methods to build drawings to be used. The continuous need to keep people comfortable, preserve infrastructure, and make structures energy-efficient has this profession growing faster than the average for all occupations. **Responsibilities:**
+ Assisting with loading and unloading tools and materials at the jobsite
+ Using hand tools and benders to construct sheet metal components, cold boxes, and HVAC components
+ Installing ridged and flex duct as well as ceiling and wall HVAC vents
+ Checking refrigerants and other HVAC components with gauges and meters
**Qualifications:**
+ Five years of experience in residential or commercial HVAC work preferred
+ Reliable transportation to and from jobsites
+ Basic math skills -addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on the fly
+ OSHA 10 preferred
+ PeopleReady will help provide your OSHA training
+ Able to lift 50 pounds in order to load and unload metal and other materials as well as carry needed tools to and from the jobsite

Position: Sheet Metal Worker
Team: Fabrication
**Primary Objective of Position:**
A Sheet Metal worker is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of metal fabricating equipment. A Sheet Metal worker works with a high degree of detail adhering to safety and quality standards.
**Major Areas of Accountability:**
+ Set up and operate metal fabricating equipment such as press brakes, shears, rolls, punch presses, drill presses, iron worker, bands saws and other miscellaneous tools.
+ Reads prints and routing tickets to determine methods, sequence, tolerance, material and process specifications.
+ Works in other areas of the Fabrication Team skills matrix, may work in the welding area.
+ Lift and move materials using forklift, pallet jack, overhead crane or jib crane.
+ Demonstrates a commitment to Continuous Improvement by identifying opportunities in day-to-day work.
+ Performs to ISO 9001 Quality Standards and abides to OSHA and EPA regulations.
**Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:**
+ High School degree, with a minimum of 1 year relevant manufacturing experience.
+ Knowledge of layouts, ability to read design prints, perform basic math and calculate conversions.
+ Knowledge of hand tools, including pneumatic and electric driven power grinders and tools.
+ Ability to use shears, press brakes, drill presses and CNC punch presses.
+ Ability to operate and program CNC punch and CNC brake presses.
+ Ability to be certified in overhead and Jib crane operation and forklift operation.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Routinely lifts and moves objects up to 50 lbs.
+ Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and stairs.
+ Occasionally works at heights or on platforms.
+ Occasionally positions self in various works spaces, including low, tight or confined spaces.
+ Routinely remains in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
+ Routinely uses repetitive motions including the wrists, hands or fingers to operate machinery or tools.
+ Routinely moves from one work station to another to accomplish tasks.
**Salary:**
+ 2nd Shift salary range $20.00 hourly to $4.00 hourly (plus 2.00/hour differential)
Will compensate with experience. Position is full-time.
**Pay Types:**
Voluntary weekday and weekend overtime.
Saturday is paid at time and a half, Sundays are paid at double time!
**Job Type:**
Monday - Friday, 3:30 p.m. - 12:00pm
Full-time (Union)
