Apprentices spend much of their day working under the guidance of a journeyman worker who guides on-the-job-learning in the critical manufacturing work processes and related tasks. In addition, apprentices participate in formal education and assessments that help them to attain valuable advanced manufacturing certification, which they can use to advance both their education and career. Apprentices participate in regular assessments that provide them with feedback on their learning and on-the-job performance. Apprentices who embrace this feedback will experience significant learning and personal development allowing them to advance their career.

**In this role, you will:**
+ Be responsible for supporting the Submarine Fly-By-Wire and Ship Control Systems technical area in developing design and maintenance requirements for shipboard systems.
+ Support Submarine Fly-By-Wire and Ship Control Systems technical area in addressing design, operation, and maintenance questions for existing and new design shipboard Submarine Fly-By-Wire and Ship Control Systems.
+ Define architectures for Submarine Control Systems, which include: steering, diving, auxiliary, and other related systems.
+ Obtain fleet feedback on Submarine Fly-By-Wire and Ship Control Systems operation and maintenance and analyzing system performance.
+ Evaluate varied factors affecting system performance.
+ Develop electrical engineering guidelines for command headquarters and for field activities.
+ Support the management and execution of technical and design requirements for new and ongoing submarine shipbuilding programs.
+ Rapidly assess the scope of a construction-impacting technical issue and expedite communication (data and information) of the issue to the appropriate cognizant SME and program office representative to drive to resolution.

**Qualifications**
**To be successful in this role you will have:**
+ An active or current DoD Secret clearance.

Required Skills

WSP USA is seeking multiple Associate Consultants, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group . This position can be based out of the following offices: Irvine + San Diego-CA, Houston-TX, and Raleigh-NC.

Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; these facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

• Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.

• Apply higher-order engineering techniques/practices to develop project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. This includes identifying project site, design and construction related risks and providing mitigation solutions.

• Demonstrated experience with REVIT and other related BIM tools.

• Demonstrated experience with LSDYNA and or other related engineering software.

• Member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

• Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

This Opportunity
WSP USA is seeking an **Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering.** This position can be based out of the following offices: New Orleans-LA, Tampa-FL, Houston-TX, and Raleigh-NC.
Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; these facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
+ With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
+ Assist with the development of project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
+ Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities.
+ Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
+ Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
+ Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. This includes working collaboratively with other engineers and larger multi-disciplinary teams, on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
+ Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Complete all assigned trainings.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
