The **Simulation Engineer** working in the Design Engineering team will apply simulation to model, validate and optimize world class supply chain automation projects that will result in an enhanced Target Guest experience by increasing the speed and accuracy of processing goods through Target's internal supply chain. This position will report to the Director of Design Engineering. The Simulation Engineer will partner with design, automation and visualization engineers to develop simulation models at the appropriate level of detail, acquire relevant datasets from internal and external data sources and validate the performance of stations and cells using the model as a proxy. This position will work collaboratively and under the supervision of Lead & Principal Engineers to model, validate and improve designs for workstations, work cells and process modules in the Target Supply Chain.
**Key Responsibilities - Simulation Engineer**
+ Demonstrate understanding of mechanical systems/designs and material flow across various inbound and outbound processes in a warehouse.
+ Understand performance of material flow systems using advanced computer-aided technologies such as discrete-event simulation and material flow analysis.
+ Support design engineering team with data related activities, such as mining, organizing, cleansing and reporting.
+ Identify internal databases, extract relevant data and present data in the appropriate format for usage by team members.
+ Support simulation team with model development, analysis and experimentation
+ Build isolated simulation models to mimic the flow of freight for workstations, work cells and process modules
+ Analyze data output from models, interpret results, document and communicate results.
+ Collaborate effectively with design, automation, visualization and simulation teams
+ Leverage simulation standards to reduce project completion times by enabling consistency in modeling and analytics
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Systems Engineering.
+ 1+ years of combined experience in material handling, automation, manufacturing, supply chain and/or distribution and logistics industries, or an Advanced degree in Engineering.
+ Analytical and organizational skills to effectively operate in the design engineering team
+ Demonstrated ability to concurrently work on multiple aspects of a project in a highly variable and uncertain environment.
+ Knowledge of material flow and discrete-event simulation modeling using 2D/3D commercial software.
+ Experience in advanced Excel, data visualization and basic statistics to communicate results.
+ Previous experience using Python, R and SQL
+ Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication to various levels within the organization.
+ Solve problems using technical skills under conditions of ambiguity with possibility of lack of data.
+ Ability to travel up to 10% (varies by project phase).
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Working knowledge of building and running material flow and discrete-event simulation models using 2D/3D commercial software.
+ Basic working knowledge of C or C++ Knowledge of material handling systems in a manufacturing or distribution system environment
+ Knowledge of material flow methodologies including sequencing, kitting, repack, etc.
+ Knowledge of lean, six sigma, & other continuous improvement concepts & methodologies

Job Purpose
This is an entry level position to support the team to perform Offline Programming (OLP) utilizing simulation software and robotics knowledge to reduce new model introduction time. They will be responsible to support the team to minimize the negative impact to current model production while reducing online robot programming time for new model activity. SIMULATION SOFTWARE ENGINEER
We are seeking a skilled engineer to develop and maintain software that integrates open-source CFD tools, meshing software, and CAD platforms, focusing on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), meshing, and simulation workflows. This role requires strong software development experience, including C++ and Python, along with expertise in numerical solvers and CAD tools.
Our team is building out our in house multi physics simulation engine to support multiple manufacturing processes at SpaceX. Our in house simulation software enables our partner teams to accelerate their production rates and improve the quality of resultant parts to push the boundaries of manufacturing for Raptor, Starship, Starlink, and other programs at SpaceX. Our team consists of world class experts in solidification physics, casting, metallurgy, and simulation. We are looking for a strong software engineer to take the simulation and associated tools to the next level of maturity. Experience with casting or solidification is not required – just a desire to learn, collaborate, and enable the best future for manufacturing at SpaceX.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and optimize software that integrates open-source CFD tools, meshing software, and CAD platforms for multi physics simulations.

This position requires knowledge of vehicle design, crash safety countermeasures, laboratory measurement techniques, vehicle sled modeling and analysis, and test/evaluation devices such as crash test dummies and human body models. Individuals will be required to provide significant technical leadership and contribute to the technical direction of projects.
**Responsibilities**
+ Plan, design, coordinate and control the progress of project work to meet client objectives
+ Lead technical efforts and keep up to date with current industry best practices
+ Create sled FE models, position various crash test dummies and human FE models, carry out vehicle impacts and perform injury analysis
+ Perform post simulation data analysis such as injury analysis per FMVSS/NCAP regulations and statistical techniques
+ Provide recommendations to client regarding planning, analysis and reporting efforts
+ Develop technical reports and presentations to communicate complex research in a clear and comprehensive manner
**Qualifications**
+ MS in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred)
+ Technical areas of expertise include engineering dynamics, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanical engineering and/or structural engineering
+ Experience in the evaluation of laboratory test results from impact testing including vehicles, vehicle components, anthropomorphic dummies, and/or post mortem human subjects
+ Experience with running vehicle crash simulations using LS-DYNA (2+ years of experience)
+ Demonstrated experience in performing post-crash simulation injury analysis such as HIC, BrIC, Nij, femur/tibia forces etc.
+ Experience with Design of Experiments, optimization, and statistical analysis
+ Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
+ Demonstrated experience with optimization programs such as LS-OPT and 3D modeling programs such as ANSA, META, Oasys Primer etc.
+ Familiarity with crash investigation reports and crash reconstruction methods
+ Good written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by technical publications / conference presentations
+ Demonstrated experience in laboratory measurement techniques and knowledge of the laws of physics, continuum mechanics, and statistical data treatments
