Job Purpose

This is an entry level position to support the team to perform Offline Programming (OLP) utilizing simulation software and robotics knowledge to reduce new model introduction time.  They will be responsible to support the team to minimize the negative impact to current model production while reducing online robot programming time for new model activity.  The primary tools this position uses are robotic simulation, cycle time estimations and validating tooling design in the 3D CAD/CAE environment.  

Key Accountabilities

• Execute new model offline simulation for individual process and tooling clearance checks, cycle time validation, and robot program download under the assistance of a mentor.
• Communicate with Engineering, Mechanical Design and Electrical Design on changes needed in order to successfully install Off Line Programming.
• Validate current production cycle time and troubleshoot countermeasures for improvement.
• Support online teach team consisting of internal and contract resources at a process level for Off Line Programming implementation and cycle time verification.
• Support of overall unit initiatives and support group level business plan goals.
• Create deliverables for Off Line Programming install or handoff to supplier.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

• Bachelor of Engineering degree in Robotics/Mechanical/Manufacturing/Welding/or Engineering Technology or an associate degree or equivalent work experience.  
• 0 – 6 years of experience in robot simulation and/or robot programming, based on education.
• Off-line programming experience or experience with Fanuc and/or Yaskawa Motoman robotic programming
• Experience with Siemens Process Simulate software is preferred.
• Robotic/Automated equipment deployment experience.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

SIMULATION SOFTWARE ENGINEER

We are seeking a skilled engineer to develop and maintain software that integrates open-source CFD tools, meshing software, and CAD platforms, focusing on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), meshing, and simulation workflows. This role requires strong software development experience, including C++ and Python, along with expertise in numerical solvers and CAD tools.

Our team is building out our in house multi physics simulation engine to support multiple manufacturing processes at SpaceX. Our in house simulation software enables our partner teams to accelerate their production rates and improve the quality of resultant parts to push the boundaries of manufacturing for Raptor, Starship, Starlink, and other programs at SpaceX. Our team consists of world class experts in solidification physics, casting, metallurgy, and simulation. We are looking for a strong software engineer to take the simulation and associated tools to the next level of maturity. Experience with casting or solidification is not required – just a desire to learn, collaborate, and enable the best future for manufacturing at SpaceX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and optimize software that integrates open-source CFD tools, meshing software, and CAD platforms for multi physics simulations.

• Generate and refine meshes from CAD models to ensure compatibility with simulation engine.

• Scale simulation engine for a rapidly growing user base.

• Troubleshoot and debug issues related to software integration, meshing quality, and simulation accuracy.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features and automate processes.

• Conduct testing and validation of simulation results using industry-standard benchmarks.

BASIC QUALIFCATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline; OR 5+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Software Simulation Engineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $45,000.00/per year

Software Simulation Engineer/Level II: 140,000.00 - 170,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

**Overview**
CRASH SIMULATION ENGINEER (NHTSA):
Bowhead is seeking a Crash Simulation Engineer to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contract headquartered in Washington D.C. The position will be fully remote. The crash simulation engineer is responsible for the development, evaluation and/or application of finite element and/or lumped parameter models in vehicle crash safety & human injury research. This position requires knowledge of vehicle design, crash safety countermeasures, laboratory measurement techniques, vehicle sled modeling and analysis, and test/evaluation devices such as crash test dummies and human body models. Individuals will be required to provide significant technical leadership and contribute to the technical direction of projects.
**Responsibilities**
+ Plan, design, coordinate and control the progress of project work to meet client objectives
+ Lead technical efforts and keep up to date with current industry best practices
+ Create sled FE models, position various crash test dummies and human FE models, carry out vehicle impacts and perform injury analysis
+ Perform post simulation data analysis such as injury analysis per FMVSS/NCAP regulations and statistical techniques
+ Provide recommendations to client regarding planning, analysis and reporting efforts
+ Develop technical reports and presentations to communicate complex research in a clear and comprehensive manner
**Qualifications**
+ MS in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred)
+ Technical areas of expertise include engineering dynamics, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanical engineering and/or structural engineering
+ Experience in the evaluation of laboratory test results from impact testing including vehicles, vehicle components, anthropomorphic dummies, and/or post mortem human subjects
+ Experience with running vehicle crash simulations using LS-DYNA (2+ years of experience)
+ Demonstrated experience in performing post-crash simulation injury analysis such as HIC, BrIC, Nij, femur/tibia forces etc.
+ Experience with Design of Experiments, optimization, and statistical analysis
+ Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)

As a Model Based Simulation Engineer, you will work collaboratively with a global multi-disciplinary engineering team to develop, validate, and standardize 1D/2D/3D HVACR system, sub-system simulation models using industry standard engineering analysis software and methodologies. **AS AN MODELING & SIMULATION ENGINEER, YOU WILL** :
+ Collaborate with global simulation and engineering teams to identify opportunities to apply 1D/2D/3D model-based simulation techniques and processes.
+ Development & implementation of simulation models to aid design of HVACR systems, sub-systems, components using industry leading simulation tools.
+ Verify and validate (V&V) simulation models. This will require partnering with global subject matter experts, creating test plans, and/or leveraging available test data by working with other engineering teams.
+ Democratization efforts of validated simulation models for the engineering community.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills** :
+ Bachelor's degree in scientific or engineering discipline
+ Experience working with 1D/3D simulations tools and their application in the Simulation Driven design approach.
+ Proven track record of applying fundamental engineering principles and creative thinking to drive timely engineering decisions.
+ Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Effective communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative partnerships on a global basis
+ Proven computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** :
+ Master's degree in scientific or engineering discipline and 1 year of relevant experience.
+ Hands-on experience using model-based engineering concepts, principles, and theories to aid creation of simulation models or process.
+ Experience using GT Suite, Ansys (Mechanical/Fluent), Abaqus software preferred
+ Deep knowledge of the engineering physics, multi-physics 1D/3D simulations, material calibration, verification & validation (V&V) techniques, statistics, and engineering analysis
+ Experience in using common programing languages (VB, python, C, C++ etc.).
+ Experience with process automation & optimization tools such as HEEDS, ISight will be a plus.
