Position Overview
Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is seeking a full-time entry to junior-level Environmental Scientist to join our team in the Hampton Roads, Virginia Office. We are looking for a motivated team player that will provide field and task support to the Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation Team.
Job Duties
Responsibilities will include performing field activities (e.g., site visits, sampling, inspections), task management, research, analysis and interpretation of analytical results and field-collected data, working on assignments with project managers and fellow team members, and coordinating with various subject matter experts. The ability to handle multiple project assignments with deadlines utilizing oral and written communications skills are a must.
Primary activities will include preparation of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments; conduct soil, groundwater, air, and surface water sampling; logging soil borings, oversight of groundwater monitoring well installations, and collection of representative subsurface media samples; oversight of site redevelopment and remediation activities; and the preparation of summary reports, under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Professional.
Project meetings, fieldwork and professional development assignments may require overnight stays throughout the region. It is estimated that this position will consist of approximately 50% office work and 50% fieldwork.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Fieldwork sampling and technical protocol
· Experience with data analysis, presentation, reduction, and evaluation; and writing technical reports a must
· Excellent writing skills; candidate should demonstrate the ability to prepare documents that are technically and grammatically correct and fully referenced
· Ability to take initiative and resolve problems with a team building mentality
· Ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with WSSI personnel at all levels
· Must maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles
Education and Experience Requirements:
· A Bachelor's Degree in Geo-Science (e.g., Geology, Hydrogeology), Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, similar engineering discipline, or other closely related field
· Experience working with a team to plan and balance the workload of multiple projects or assignments
· Experience in assisting with proposal support and development is a plus
· HAZWOPER certification or similar vocational certifications and skill sets a plus
· Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Power Point. Mapping (GIS, CAD, or similar software) experience a plus

- Directing and conducting field studies, data gathering and sampling activities at sites including soil and groundwater sampling, groundwater flow and hydrogeological data evaluation, chemical data and contaminant fate and transport evaluation, well installation, aquifer testing, stormwater monitoring, surface water monitoring, and groundwater monitoring, groundwater and soil remediation evaluation, environmental due diligence, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, regulatory compliance services, and permit acquisition.
- Keeping abreast of federal, state and local regulations and published scientific findings as they pertain to the project assigned.
- Client service and identifying client needs.
- Working closely with Senior Project Managers to deliver projects on schedule and budget.
- Preparing technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates.
- Managing subcontractors.
- Managing project timelines and budgets.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited university in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, civil/environmental engineering, or other related science with at least 7 years of demonstrated consulting experience.
- Operational knowledge of computer databases and office programs (MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word).
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports and proposals
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are a must.

Job Description:
Our growing Southeast Area team is currently seeking a motivated and talented Technical Leader for our Environmental, Assessment and Remediation (EAR) practice . Our Southeast Area EAR practice focuses on site assessment/remedial investigations and design, environmental regulatory compliance and support, feasibility studies, emerging contaminants, and property transaction due diligence for clients in industrial, power, water, and government end markets. The Technical Leader will collaborate and work with diverse project teams of engineers and environmental professionals to execute and deliver on complex environmental challenges for our clients throughout the Southeast Area, as well as within the greater Verdantas footprint.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand, protect and promote our empathetic, people-focused culture in all aspects of the business.
- Understand and implement complex technical requirements for client projects while managing, directing and mentoring teams of engineers, scientists and field staff to meet client satisfaction and ensure projects are delivered safely and within scope, schedule and budget
- Serve as an inter-disciplinary team member in meetings and communications with clients pertaining to specific projects/tasks
- Prepare and/or review work plans, specifications, sampling and analysis plans, feasibility studies, and remedial action plans for project implementation
- Prepare environmental permit applications (e.g., air permitting, wastewater discharge permitting, etc.)
- Conduct analysis of environmental data from complex environmental and/or hydrogeologic investigations and develop technical reports
- Maintain a high external profile through membership/attendance in industry organizations and continually growing a contact base
- Servant leadership approach to the business - leading by example.

- Bachelor's degree in Civil/ Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology - Advanced degree is preferred
- A minimum of 12-15 years of experience in the engineering consulting industry
- Registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist preferred
- Demonstrated success in project and client management
- Thorough understanding of U.S. EPA regulations, State environmental regulations for various states, and other standards/regulations affecting the regulated community
- Experience with preparing regulatory work plans and reports for investigation, remediation, and closure; working knowledge of methods and procedures for site characterization, hydrogeologic analysis and remediation of contaminants in soil, soil vapor, indoor air; and groundwater understanding of multimedia remedial technologies for addressing a variety of contaminants
