General/Position Summary

The Director, CMC Inspection Management as part of the Vertex Quality Assurance Organization is responsible for the inspection management related to CMC activities of the internal manufacturing site for Cell & Gene. This role will be responsible for the development of an inspection program for site compliance and maturity, inspection preparation, consistent state of readiness and inspection management. The role is responsible for designing the program, identifying risks, driving mitigation of such risks and supporting cross-functional partners in ensuring execution.

Additional responsibilities include support for external site inspection readiness. Key Duties & Responsibilities

* Serves as manufacturing site CMC Inspection Lead with responsibility for the overall strategic direction, oversight, performance and effectiveness of the site inspection program.
* Responsible for identification of compliance gaps/risks, drives alignment on mitigation and assures action execution to closure.
* Develops and implements strategies for inspection readiness, including mock inspections, training, and site preparation visits.
* Partners with the site QA leadership and cross-functional leadership for coordination and alignment in ensuring overall execution, readiness and site maturity adequacy.
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) in response to audit and inspection findings.
* Collaborates with the Global Quality Audit and Inspection Management to enable execution and maturity of site for pre-approval inspection and other inspection readiness.
* Monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to internal audits, inspections and compliance, and identifying areas for improvement.
* Communicates status, risks, and escalations with management through governance forums and ongoing report outs.
* Leads/Engages/Support in Quality projects ensure successful planning, execution and on-time delivery.
* Ensure activities and deliverables are in compliance with Global HA regulations, Vertex SOPs and industry best practices.
* Provides functional area leadership and management through the execution of Goals, Employee learning and development, and budget forecasting.

Required Education Level

Bachelor's degree in a Scientific/Engineering/Lifesciences field.

Required Experience

Typically requires 12+ years of relevant industry experience in a commercial manufacturing site in biotechnology/regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Required Knowledge/Skills

* In-depth GxP experience with current knowledge of industry trends, HA regulations & expectations, and best practices
* Extensive knowledge of commercial readiness, with inspection planning/coordination and management for regulatory authority inspections at a manufacturing site
* Broad knowledge of Cell & Gene therapy and/or Biologics, aseptic manufacturing processing.
* Ability to lead improvement projects - experience with Root Cause Analysis, data analytics, and other Operational Excellence experience, such as LEAN, DMAIC, Six Sigma
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize and execute tasks effectively.
* Excellent communication skills and a proven track record Influencing/building/promoting a culture of Quality and Excellence.
* Ability to apply risk management principles to decision making and operational priorities.
* Ability to manage multiple projects, work in a dynamic environment and communicate effectively with senior leaders.

$176,000 - $264,000

Duties: Reviews and coordinates work conducted by environmental site assessment Master Services Agreement (MSA) contractors in areas such as: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Soils Disposition Evaluation (Compliance with Specification 01 4524) Soils Evaluations (applicability of SCAQMD Rule 1466) Health/Safety Risk Assessment Preliminary Environmental Assessment Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study Public Participation Plan Preparation and implementation of Removal Action Workplans / Remedial Action Plans Polychlorinated biphenyl survey and mitigation Assists in contract development and oversight of remediation contractors. Establishes and maintains project budgets, including contract management and schedules related to environmental investigations and remediation efforts. Provides technical advice to the Office of Environmental Health & Safety (OEHS) Management regarding oversight of environmental site assessment contractors, as well as contractor budget and schedule control. Prepares and coordinates the environmental review process for individual projects with the Facilities Services Division, covering: Project scheduling Budgeting School design and construction Emergency response Waste disposal Demolition Required Experience: Seven (7) years of full-time paid experience managing environmental investigations and remediation under the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) or comparable regulatory agency. Experience with site investigation and remedial strategies, and knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including DTSC, RWQCB, and SCAQMD protocols. Required Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree, preferably in Geology, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications: California Professional Registration (e.g., Certified Hydrogeologist, Professional Engineer, or Professional Geologist) is preferred. The Project Manager Site Assessment and Remediation position provides a unique opportunity to manage and conduct important environmental site assessment, water quality, stormwater, groundwater, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, and general environmental consulting. The selected candidate will work with engineers and scientists that are focused on solving complex environmental compliance and regulatory issues. This position is in the Miami Lakes area.

Responsibilities

    Developing project plans in coordination with Senior Project Manager, supporting bid and proposal efforts, and communicating directly with clients.
  • Managing site assessment, surface water quality, hydrogeology, asbestos; lead, indoor air quality, and environmental risk management studies and services.
  • Directing and conducting field studies, data gathering and sampling activities at sites including soil and groundwater sampling, groundwater flow and hydrogeological data evaluation, chemical data and contaminant fate and transport evaluation, well installation, aquifer testing, stormwater monitoring, surface water monitoring, and groundwater monitoring, groundwater and soil remediation evaluation, environmental due diligence, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, regulatory compliance services, and permit acquisition.
  • Keeping abreast of federal, state and local regulations and published scientific findings as they pertain to the project assigned.
  • Client service and identifying client needs.
  • Working closely with Senior Project Managers to deliver projects on schedule and budget.
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Managing subcontractors.
  • Managing project timelines and budgets.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited university in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, civil/environmental engineering, or other related science with at least 7 years of demonstrated consulting experience.
  • Operational knowledge of computer databases and office programs (MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word).
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare reports and proposals
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills are a must.
