Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Recruiter with a focus on hourly roles and construction-related skillsets. This position plays a critical role in sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for roles such as electricians, mechanical installers, general laborers, and other skilled trades essential to our field operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of blue-collar recruitment, labor market trends, and workforce planning for project-based environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Field & Skilled Trades Recruiting: Source and recruit candidates for hourly and skilled trades positions including mechanical installers, electricians, welders, and general laborers.
- Community Engagement: Build relationships with trade schools, unions, job fairs, and local workforce development programs to create a steady pipeline of talent.
- Candidate Screening: Conduct resume reviews, phone screens, and in-person interviews to assess qualifications, certifications, and job readiness.
- Job Advertising: Write and post job ads tailored to hourly and skilled trades audiences across job boards, social media, and local outreach platforms.
- Hiring Manager Collaboration: Partner with field supervisors and project managers to understand labor needs and timelines, and align recruiting efforts accordingly.
- Onboarding Support: Coordinate pre-employment requirements such as drug screens, background checks, and safety training. Ensure smooth onboarding for field employees.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of candidate interactions, certifications, and hiring metrics. Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies.
- Workforce Planning: Support project-based workforce planning to ensure timely staffing for installations and field operations.
- Retention Support: Collaborate with HR and field leadership to support retention strategies for hourly employees, including feedback loops and engagement initiatives.

- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in HR, Business, or related field.
- 2+ years of recruiting experience in construction, manufacturing, or skilled trades.
- Strong understanding of hourly workforce dynamics and labor market trends.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruiting platforms.
- Ability to travel for job fairs, site visits, and community outreach.
- Experience recruiting for construction or field installation roles.
- Familiarity with OSHA and safety compliance in hiring.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience working with union and non-union labor pools.

Journeyman Electrician- Skilled Trades
Primary Essential Function
Makes electrical repairs to all building fixtures, main power distribution, test cells and mach i ne tools.
Responsibilities

Works with minimum supervision.

Interprets and works from blueprints, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings , State and Municipal codes.

Computes wire size requirements when necessary. Assists in machinery and facility schematic layout(s ).

Performs related mechanical operations necessary to the dismantling or build i ng of electrical and electronic units.
-
Does repair and installation work on large cables, such as splicing, tapping and insulating high voltage wire.
-
Assists in machine installation and other machine repair activates when needed.

Participates in continuous improvement activities/efforts with the classification/department.
-
Must have & demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery controls/ troubleshooting such as drive, power supplies, controllers, PLC ladder logic and basic programming knowledge.

Must have the ability to prepare and obtain quotes for electrical projects as well be knowledgeable of current electrical codes.

Must be able to troubleshoot all types of electrical, machine controls systems & electronic problems.

Must have a thorough knowledge of shop mathematics, electronics, and understand electrically related machine functions.

Must be able to read blueprints, wiring diagrams and interpret one-line drawings. Must be able to provide/ help update changes to the drawings.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Must be a licensed State of Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician or Equivalent UAW or IBEW Electrician Journeyman Card Holder.

Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To work with the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Team repairing and maintaining physical structures, fixtures, machinery, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems in university buildings in accordance with blueprints, manuals, codes. Will predominantly be engaged in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, controls, and systems associated with HVAC, motors, bearings, pumps, HVAC compressors, air compressors, refrigeration, and energy management in university properties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with the PM Team performing preventative and predictive maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment, including air handlers, including multizone, and dual duct systems, VAV, CAV, systems, RTU¿s, DX cooling, and hydronic systems, pneumatics. HVAC compressors, air compressors, cooling towers, boilers, steam distribution system, refrigeration systems, fans, single and 3 phase motors, bearings, read HVAC and electrical schematics, emergency generators, DDC controls, operate energy management systems, Maintain and repair plumbing, electrical. Door/window hardware etc. (35%)
- Independently cover campus calls and/or assist with the repair and replacement of equipment associated with steam generating and distribution (boilers, pumps, and lines), systems controls (electronic and pneumatic), emergency generators and transfer equipment, air conditioning (cooling towers, chillers, and fans), computerized energy management and other systems as directed. (25%)
- Independently cover other shifts when needed including weekends responding to all campus maintenance calls including the monitoring and responding to the Energy Management System alarms (15%)
1. Transport and install equipment necessary for HVAC work throughout the university area. (4%)
2. Manage and direct workload independently and be diligent in recording proper information into the work order system (e.g., locations, hours worked, billable account numbers, contact names and numbers, etc.) for use by the management team. Be available to work in other Zones when needed for any task not necessarily trade oriented. (5%)
3. Inspect and log the operation of campus mechanical systems; accurately maintain associated
records. (5%)
4. Manage and direct workload independently, and be diligent in documenting actions (5%)
5. Be willing to work in confined space HVAC units and restricted access laboratories that although cleared before
entry will still require proper personal protective equipment to be worn as a precautionary measure. (5%)
6. Perform other duties as assigned. (1%)
CONTACTS
Department: Frequent contact with department staff to maintain workflow.
University: Regular contact with all members of university regarding workflow.
External: Occasional contact with vendors and contractors to exchange information.
Students: Contact with students in work Zone as it pertains to skilled trades¿ maintenance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 7-years of related experience, preferably in an institutional, heavy industrial, or light commercial environment (residential may be an acceptable equivalent as long as mechanical based).
Education and/or licensing: High school education required. Valid driver's license free of significant violations.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Must be familiar with the construction trades and building maintenance.
- Must be able to identify the need for repairs or maintenance.
- Familiarity with the proper use of basic hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment.
- Must be able to work well both independently and as a member of a team.
- Must be familiar with hazards typical to the institution (radioactivity, asbestos, chemicals, etc.) and related safety equipment and procedures. Training to be provided.
- Must be able to read technical drawings.
- Basic computer skills: must be willing to learn Work Management System software to record work performed in the Zone.
- Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee is directly exposed to the following hazards in the work environment: animals, moving machinery, blood borne pathogens, chemicals, commercial cleaning solvents and oils, confined space entry and / or restricted access, excessive noise, fumes, dust, pesticides or herbicides, radioactive materials, and repetitive motion. Personal protective equipment (gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, protective eyewear, safety shoes, and respiratory protection) is provided. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. Must be physically capable of reaching any area of facilities with tools and materials, including roofs, tunnels, and catwalks; this may involve frequent balance, frequent bending, stooping, stretching, crawling and climbing. Must be able to pass the required physical examination.

Ability to work without close supervision once directed on task.
