Lead assigned staff in performing diagnostic sleep studies and polysomnographic activities.

• Lead or coordinate shift operations of assigned activities, resources, and/or associates.
• Perform sleep studies and polysomnographic testing and serve as a technical or functional resource.
• Assign, monitor and review progress of work.
• Monitor and report compliance with policies and/or procedures.
• Oversee and evaluate orientation and training of assigned associates.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Cert Polysomnographic Tech credentialed from the Board of Registered Polysomnograhic Technologists (BRPT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Reg Polysomnographic Tchnlgst credentialed from the Tennessee Polysomnography Professional Standards Committee obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
  degree/Technical degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

The Sleep Lab Supervisor provides operational oversight, leadership, and clinical expertise for the Valor Health Sleep Lab. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, while maintaining com Supervisor, Lab, Lab, Medical Director, Sleep, Clinical, Healthcare

The Sleep Lab Technician is responsible for conducting comprehensive evaluations and treatments of sleep disorders, which may include polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, or patient care and education. The Sleep Lab Technician works under general supervision and provides essential support to the Sleep Lab team, ensuring quality patient care and accurate data collection.

Essential Functions:

• Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient data to determine specific testing parameters, working closely with the ordering physician or clinical director.
• Prepares, calibrates, and adjusts sleep lab equipment as necessary to ensure proper functioning.
• Applies electrodes and sensors per accepted standards, performs physiological calibrations, and conducts PAP mask fitting.
• Conducts various tests following procedural protocols, such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), and oxygen titration, ensuring accurate data collection.
• Monitors the quality of polysomnographic data acquisition, identifying and resolving artifacts to maintain signal integrity.
• Documents sleep stages, clinical events, and significant occurrences during procedures to support scoring and interpretation.
• Implements patient-specific therapeutic interventions, including PAP, bi-level PAP, and oxygen administration as appropriate.
• Scores sleep stages and clinical events according to professional guidelines, generating accurate reports for physician review.
• Provides age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of a diverse patient population.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 0-2 years of experience in polysomnography or a related area of sleep study required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of polysomnographic techniques and diagnostic procedures.
• Skill in analyzing physiological data and recognizing abnormalities.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
• Effective communication skills for patient interaction and data documentation.

Licenses and Certifications:

• RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required.

State Specific Requirements:

• Arizona: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) certification, or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) with Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) designation required within 6 months of hire. Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

• Under the direct supervisor of the Sleep Lab Coordinator, the Polysomnography Technician provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including all forms of respiratory care including aerosol treatments, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, and assists in emergency procedures, polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services and patient care and education. In addition, will perform all department functions including: Patient Scheduling & Pre-authorizations; PSG testing; CPAP Titrations; MSLT studies; MWT studies; Day Studies; Split Night studies; Scoring; and assisting with department quality assurance & performance improvement programs.
• Essential job functions include: Cardiopulmonary Functions : Gather and analyze patient information, including patient history, physical information, medications and physician order(s). Administers aerosol treatment, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry and peak flow assessment in a timely manner, and according to established procedures. Administers appropriate oxygen therapy, according to written order(s) and makes adjustment recommendations to ensure adequate oxygenation. Demonstrates operating knowledge in adult ventilation. Interprets ABGs, pulse ox and other lab results. Performs chest auscultation and records results. Responds to and is responsible for ventilation in emergency situations requiring manual resuscitation. Assists in transporting patients requiring ventilator support within the facility.
• Sleep Lab functions: Explain procedures and orientate patients to the sleep center. Prepare and calibrate equipment. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards, making adjustments if necessary to ensure proper signal, following procedural protocols. Perform polysomnographic data acquisition, while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure free signals. Document observations. Implement appropriate interventions.
• Administrative job duties include answering the telephone.

• High school diploma or equivalent. Certifications as described above.

• Minimum 1-year of experience working in a Sleep Lab, Sleep Clinic, and/or Sleep Center.
• Preferred: Two years of experience working in a Sleep Lab, Sleep Clinic, and/or Sleep Center.
• Incumbent will be able to demonstrate working knowledge of all equipment and provide preventative maintenance, disinfection, sterilization and assembly of equipment effectively.
• Strong customer focus and the ability to display respect create a positive impression. Patient registration and/or healthcare experience are preferred.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• A Polysomnographic Technologist will be currently certified or eligible for certification as a certified or registered technologist in sleep disorders such as a RST, RPSGT, and/or SDS;.

• Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds either the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential.

• Ability to become certified within 120 days of hire.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Licensed by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care with a temporary license with continued employment based upon successfully passing the next available national exam is required.

• Minimum 1-year of experience working in a Sleep Lab, Sleep Clinic, and/or Sleep Center.

• Two years of experience working in a Sleep Lab, Sleep Clinic, and/or Sleep Center.

• If ACLS certification is not current, you must obtain ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
