The SME Cybersecurity Consultant will play a critical role in conducting, guiding, and validating control testing efforts for federal and critical industry clients. This individual will leverage 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on compliance, control assessments, and risk management. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform comprehensive cybersecurity control assessments in accordance with NIST 800-53 v5 , NIST 800-37 , and FISMA requirements .
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for control testing methodologies, providing guidance and mentorship to assessment teams.
  • Review and validate control implementation and effectiveness, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and organizational policies.
  • Develop and deliver key artifacts, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
  • Analyze security documentation, configurations, and evidence to assess compliance with security and privacy controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, and audit teams, to identify, document, and mitigate risks.
  • Provide technical expertise in the implementation of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, supporting system authorization and accreditation.
  • Assist in the preparation for audits, inspections, and other regulatory assessments, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Stay informed about evolving federal cybersecurity regulations, standards, and threats to provide proactive recommendations.
  • Communicate assessment findings and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership and government clients.
Qualifications
Required Experience and Skills:
  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN
  • 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with a strong focus on control testing and compliance in federal environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NIST 800-53 v5 , NIST 800-37 , and FISMA frameworks and requirements.
  • Proven expertise in conducting control assessments, documenting findings, and developing remediation plans.
  • Strong understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process and its application to federal systems.
  • Experience in developing security artifacts, including SSPs, SARs, and POA&Ms.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex systems and identify compliance gaps.

Work InteractionsThe Subject Matter Expert works daily with other Information Technology Staff to exchange, and/or request information, resolves problems, and collaborates on projects. As well as daily work with Faculty, Students and Staff of the Law Center and its related organizations – to resolve problems, discuss/consult on issues and policies affecting the Law Center, and collaborate on projects. This position works regularly with hardware and/or software vendors. As well as collaborate with colleagues in-house and off-site to meet various goals and improve Law Center Information Technology Operations services.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of BS degree in computer science/engineering related field.

  • Minimum of four years related experience. Additional education may be substituted for experience.

  • Additional experience may be substituted for education.

  • Must be customer focused, a team player, and able to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to work successfully and contribute positively to the team environment.

  • Prior employment in an academic environment a plus

  • Strong skills with SharePoint, MS Access, or MS Excel are desired

  • Excellent communication skills are essential

  • Experience with writing training manuals and support guides preferred

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Helpdesk experience including the use of a ticketing system – preferably Blackboard

  • Strong knowledge of MS Active Directory, current versions of Windows, Exchange 2010, Office365, and SharePoint

  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

We support Government and prime system integrators with engineering and management expertise. We are looking to hire a Technical Program Management Subject Matter Expert to support our team at the Office of Naval Research in Arlington, VA.

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide part-time support to the Office of Naval Research (ONR), leveraging their expertise to contribute to the advancement of research initiatives. This role involves reviewing technical documents, offering expert opinions, and participating in meetings to guide ONR's research direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. White Paper and Proposal Review:
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of white papers, proposals, and technical documents to assess their alignment with ONR's strategic objectives.
  • Provide critical feedback and recommendations for improving the technical content and feasibility of proposed projects.
  1. Meeting Participation:
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings, briefings, and discussions with ONR staff, researchers, and stakeholders.
  • Offer expert insights and technical guidance to inform decision-making and contribute to program development.
  1. Expert Opinion and Advisory Support:
  • Provide expert opinions on a wide range of topics relevant to ONR's mission, including emerging technologies, research methodologies, and strategic priorities.

Job Requirements
  • Current SECRET Clearance or the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance prior to award
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and twenty-five (25) years of experience in engineering, mathematics, or science, including biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics
  • OR a master's degree from an accredited college or university and twenty (20) years of experience in engineering, mathematics, or science, including biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics
  • OR a doctorate degree from an accredited college or university and fifteen (15) years of experience in engineering, mathematics, or science, including biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics
  • Recent experience with DoD S&T efforts
  • Professional certification or peer recognition in platform technologies, electric propulsion, integrated structural systems, materials, manufacturing, sustainment, control technologies, naval architecture, hull and propulsion hydromechanics, acoustic and non-acoustic signature, structural systems, maneuvering and control, control systems, sea keeping, propulsion and power systems, or automation.
