Department Overview
The Director, Human Rights position can sit in our Chicago or Washington D.C. offices.
The Director of Human Rights will shape and advance McDonald's commitment to respect human rights across McDonald's restaurants, supply chain, and the company as part of the McDonald's Sustainability & Social Impact team within the Global Impact function. This role will lead the design and oversight of enterprise human rights strategies and governance outlining a multi-year vision for the business. The Director will report to the Senior Director of Social Impact and oversee the management of the Human Rights Manager. The Director will collaborate closely with key functional partners, such as Global Supply Chain, Global People, and Legal, markets, and external stakeholders to make sure that human rights is embedded into the business.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and lead McDonald's global human rights strategy and governance outlining a multi-year strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations, sustainability goals, and corporate values.
+ Oversee talent management of Human Rights Manager and drive capability building for internal teams to strengthen awareness, skills, and accountability for human rights.
+ Oversee management of cross-functional Human Rights Working Group, which governs the human rights management systems within functions and markets, and responsible for representing the group to senior leadership level, and shepherding key company policies and human rights management system improvements across the McDonald's System.
+ Represent McDonald's externally with NGOs, multi-stakeholder initiatives, government agencies, and industry peers to advance industry change on human rights.
+ Partner internally across functions (Supply Chain, Legal, People) to embed human rights priorities into business decisions.
+ Lead governance and reporting efforts for human rights, translating program outcomes into measurable impact for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
+ Identify opportunities to strengthen external stakeholder partners on human rights and key liaison for business on human rights issues.
Qualifications
+ 10+ years of experience in human rights, ideally for a global company and with demonstrated success influencing at a global scale.
+ Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree in sustainability, business and human rights, such as an MBA or Masters in Sustainability, or Juris Doctorate with human rights law experience is preferred.
+ Exceptional communication, flexibility, influencing and interpersonal skills, often working with global, virtual and cross-functional teams

-Assist with community-based outreach about the NYCHRL and related issues to community groups, tenant groups, grass-root organizations, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, private entities, and governmental agencies. Meet with members of the public to perform a preliminary assessment of the individual's needs and/or claims of discrimination.
-Perform data entry, generate letters, and otherwise facilitate communication with members of the public making inquiries at CCHR.

-Provide day-to-day administrative support to the LEB, including reception duties, mail and correspondence, and docketing and service of complaints.

No Hate NYS campaign provides this coordinated and community-focused support through our state-wide Regional Councils, Response Team and Youth Initiatives.

Under the direction of the HBPU Assistant Deputy Commissioner, the Human Rights Specialist 1 would manage the work of the No Hate NYS campaign's 10 Regional Councils throughout New York State. The HRS 1 would work closely with our 10 regional councils to support them to fulfil their mission and action plans. As a Human Rights Specialist 1, you will:
• Work closely with No Hate NYS campaign's 10 Regional Councils, supporting them to carry out hate and bias prevention activities in their regions.
• Manage and refine the Regional Council's annual plan process to execute activities, meetings, and other special events, overseeing and approving the use of resources and financial planning.
• Lead, in conjunction with HBPU team, statewide projects that are designated by HBPU that include the Regional Councils
• Monitor Regional Council's Action Plan goals; ensuring they are measured and achieved.
• Work with the Assistant Deputy Commissioner to identify and provide relevant training for the Regional Councils.
• Assist the Assistant Deputy Commissioner in the development of policy proposals and policy positions related to preventing and responding to hate and bias incidents in New York State.
• Assist the HBPU team on the maintenance and expansion of our Hate & Bias Prevention Toolkit.
• When needed, assist the Response Team, which will mobilize to support communities impacted by hate and bias incidents throughout the state.

Community Engagement and External Relations
• Assist with marketing campaigns and other initiatives that raise the profile of No Hate NYS campaign within the community and proactively support the unit's mission.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with partners and other relevant community organizations, government agencies, and advocates.
• Engage in community outreach to identify and assess possible hate and bias incidents as they occur.
• Provide technical assistance or training on the work of HBPU and DHR to community organizations, DHR staff, and others.
• Represent DHR and the Unit to the broader community of interested organizations, individuals, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications *This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

Seven years of experience in field investigation or law enforcement investigation and the preparation of detailed narrative reports; OR planning, developing, implementing, or enforcing a human rights, civil rights or housing and community development program, OR conducting discrimination or labor relations investigations, OR litigation, OR any combination of the above experience to equal seven years.

Substitution: An associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor's in a related field degree can substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree in a related field can substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate in a related field can substitute for six years of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

The Women's Human Rights Coordination Group works closely with AIUSA staff to advance the global protection of women's human rights. The Coordination Group divides duties among the members of the group, and these include:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring – The Co-group serves as key monitors and experts on women’s human rights. As such, members of the co-group are responsible for routinely monitoring the political and human rights situation concerning women’s rights and having a solid understanding of AI’s specific concerns pertaining to women’s rights.
  • Strategy building – The co-group is responsible, in collaboration with other volunteers and staff, for developing and implementing action strategies for AIUSA’s work in women’s human rights. The co-group participates in strategy development at international, section, and local levels. Such strategies may utilize an array of action forms including casework, campaigns, country or thematic projects, rapid or crisis responses. The co-group should be conversant in numerous tactics, which may include media engagement, US and foreign government advocacy, corporate engagement, shareholder activism, outreach to relevant professions, émigré groups or other stakeholders, and participation in coalitions or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Campaigns and Crisis Response – The Co-group plays a key role in the development and implementation of relevant campaigns, including women’s human rights defenders and other individuals at risk. Their roles include crafting actions for the Women’s Human Rights Action Network as well as for members, supporters, and activists across the nation.
  • Women’s Human Rights Action Network – The Co-group supports a network of groups and individual members who carry out ongoing work related to women’s human rights. This Action Network is developed both within and outside our current activist base and is an opportunity to facilitate women’s human rights work and discussion and grow the movement.
  • Media and Social Media – The Co-group serves as official spokespersons for AIUSA concerning women’s human rights and responds to and initiates media coverage on women’s human rights. This includes both domestic and international print, TV, radio, and internet outlets. The co-group is responsible for maintaining the Women’s Rights pages on the AIUSA website and for crafting online actions. The co-group is also responsible for blogging and maintains a Facebook page and Twitter feed.
  • Working With Other Human Rights Organizations – The co-group seeks to develop and maintain contacts with their counterparts in other human rights organizations, solidarity groups or other stake-holders in women’s rights work.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Program Director, the Community Outreach worker will locate and engage resources for tenants. Ensures efficient and successful access and linkage to the full array of necessary employment, physical and behavioral health services. Coordinates effective communication between all staff and tenants to the ultimate benefit of the patient. A Community Outreach Worker discerns needs of tenants and makes referrals to appropriate agencies facilitating access to quality employment, health care and social services, providing health education, bringing linguistically and culturally responsive health care directly to the community, helping people become equal partners in their health care, and increasing the community’s awareness of the presence of underserved populations. They disseminate information on available programs and services and perform various administrative duties. They assist supervisory staff and support tenants and their families to assess their needs or identify potential problems. They also serve as advocates for clients and help to bring about desired or necessary corrective action or will assist in locating necessary help from their community to ensure that a service is provided. They also will assist tenants and their families in crisis situations and assist in making necessary referrals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: List all essential job duties.   • Responsible for establishing relationships that are necessary for the continued support of tenants and coordination of employment or necessary services.

  • Responsible for engaging community referrals (ground ups) to educate them on services and have them sign consent forms for service.

  • Conduct field, phone and mail outreach to sources of employment and other services.

  • Track the outreach and engagement of all referrals as required.

  • Participate in advocacy and direct action to end homelessness.

  • Conduct assigned administrative duties (mail, follow-up etc.) and other assigned job duties.

  • And other duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Committed to active promotion of ICL values and goals.

  • Working knowledge of computer software and electronic health record systems.

  • Demonstrated competency in written, verbal, and computational skills to present and document records in accordance with program standards.

  • Experienced in and demonstrated comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the interdisciplinary planning process and the developmental treatment model.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.

  • You must have the ability and willingness to regularly travel, in some instances with clients in Agency vehicles, to many locations using various modes of reliable and safe transportation

Preferred: Knowledge of Medicaid, Social Security and other entitlements preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree plus two years of related human services experience linking mentally disabled clients to a broad range of services essential to successfully living in the community.

The following fields preferred: Social Work, Psychology, Education, Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, Community Mental Health, Sociology, Speech and Hearing, Physical or Recreational therapy. Degrees in other related areas may be considered.

Licensure: Valid driver’s license may be required, as determined by operational needs.
