Job Summary

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Essential Functions

1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.

2. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets with the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Prepares for assigned classes, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.

3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

8. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

9. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.

10. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

The research scholar will take a leadership role in Pascal Geldsetzer's research group, which is a "dry lab" focused on quantitative analyses of existing, and often publicly accessible, datasets. The group is currently focused on studying the causal effect of shingles vaccination on cognition ( In extensions of this work, the group is also interested in the effect of other vaccinations given in old age on dementia as well as the effect of infections on dementia. Key data sources for our projects are electronic health record data, epidemiological cohort studies, mortality data, and other large health-related administrative datasets. The researcher will be expected to publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
We are in particular looking for individuals with in-depth experience in econometric/quasi-experimental approaches for causal effect estimation (e.g., regression discontinuity and difference-in-differences). We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible but there is no specific deadline for the application - we hire on an ongoing basis.
The initial appointment will be 1-year fixed term. The fixed-term may be renewed for additional years based on business needs.

Childrens is looking to add a supervisor to an already great team! This is a full-time position with the following details:

  • Days: 0800-1630
  • On call one week a month (phone support mostly but could come in if needed)
  • Supervise 25-30
  • Support inpatient medical social workers
  • Participate and support internal committees

Role Purpose: Coordinates the administration of comprehensive social work. Understands and participates in the operational processes of the patient care area and as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver the safest and most efficient/effective patient care to patients. Evaluates patient care and programming through part-time direct supervision and chart reviews.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages individuals including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Assists with operations of unit services and integration with other departments.
  • Hires, manages, and evaluates staff and services to build an effective work unit.

Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has a current opening for a team member in the Family and Child Well-Being Division. HHS is responsible for working with families who have experienced abuse and neglect. You play a key role in preparing and supporting children and families to be successful. You will also assist families in realizing their full potential by working with them as experts, case planning with team members, and the courts, and connecting families to community resources.

HHS, Family Well-Being and Protection Division, is seeking Child Protection Supervisors (Social Work Supervisors) to plan, direct and supervise a unit of social workers who conduct child abuse assessments and/or provide child welfare services. This is a full-time opportunity, Monday Friday with typical hours being from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with extra hours as needed including after-hours and weekend on-call rotation. These positions require an in-office presence to your assigned location and travel to various other offices within the Service Area to meet with staff, attend court hearings and meet with clients and families as needed. Mileage is paid at $0.50/mile travelled according to the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) State Accounting Enterprise Procedures. A valid driver's license is required; however, you may request to reserve a state vehicle if available.

This position will be domiciled (work location) in Cedar Rapids and will provide services in that and surrounding counties. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordination and implementation of goals and objectives to achieve desired outcomes
  • Clinical supervision around case outcomes to assure the safety of children
  • Communicating and adhering to current policy and procedure affecting the work
  • Assignment work to ensure efficiency in service delivery and equitable workload and approve travel claims, payroll, leave requests and other personnel functions
  • Assigning and monitoring all work schedules, manage overtime allocations, and providing input to administration
  • General supervision around job duties and performance through regularly scheduled individual supervisory conferences
  • Training all new employees and providing regular performance evaluations to all staff at least annually
  • Reviewing and approving all legal documents prior to their submission and assuring staff maintain compliance with Iowa Code
  • Conducting case record reviews to ensure compliance and quality
  • Reviewing worker written work, computer documents, and various other documents to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Use of various forms of technological resources to monitor, track, approve and direct work flow
  • Conducting regular unit meetings
  • Responding to customer and employee inquiries and concerns in a timely manner to assure that issues are resolved
  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with collaterals and maintaining a working knowledge of community resources
  • On a rotating basis, be available to all staff after hours and on-call as needed providing case consultation, crisis resolution, and approval of emergency removals

Summary of Work

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of social work and work closely with our team to assist residents within a maximum-security facility. As an intern, you will be exposed to a variety of tasks and have the chance to develop professional skills in social work practice.

Our social worker interns are an integral part of the behavioral health department within the institution. Duties include completion of mental health assessments and treatment programs involving complex cases such as emotional and behavioral disorders along with follow up treatment planning and professional documentation, co-facilitating treatment programs, resident check-ins, coordination of services, and opportunities to observe and monitor case managers and/or treatment staff.

Internship duration: 400 hours to be completed from January - April.

Student Requirements

To be eligible for a North Dakota State Government Stipend Student Internship, a student:
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical program in the United States, and
  • Must be at least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship (or must have completed the first year of a vocational/technical program by the beginning of the internship), and
  • Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be working in an internship that aligns with the student's academic major or career goals.

All NYJTL community tennis and after school programs are offered at no cost to its participants.

Position Summary:

This internship provides social work students with hands-on experience in school-based settings, supporting middle school youth through NYJTL's afterschool programs. Interns will build skills in group facilitation, crisis response, and family engagement, while working closely with an experienced Social Worker. The role emphasizes developing practical competencies in assessment, intervention planning, and advocacy, all within a trauma-informed and youth development-focused framework. Interns will contribute meaningfully to students' social-emotional growth and school connectedness.

Learning Objectives:
  • Facilitation of SEL Groups : Develop and lead 2-4 small group sessions per week using a Mental Health Skill Building curriculum to promote emotional literacy, self-regulation, and peer connection.
  • Student Support & De-escalation : Identify students in crisis and implement trauma-informed, restorative approaches to support their emotional and behavioral needs within the afterschool environment.
  • Pre- and Post-Survey Implementation : Assist with the collection, organization, and basic analysis of student surveys (e.g., Hello Insight) to assess social-emotional growth and program impact.
  • Family Engagement Strategy : Collaborate with site directors and school staff to build sustainable strategies for increasing caregiver engagement and communication.
