American Axle & Manufacturing has openings for Software Validation Engineers at its ATDC facility in Detroit, Michigan. Job duties include:

  • Perform manual and automated software qualification tests on embedded systems using tools such as Vector CANoe ensuring conformance to AAM strategies, policies and procedures, and project level processes including ISO 26262, ISO 29119 and ASPICE
  • Analyze and review requirements from IBM DNG, design and specify test plans and test cases on IBM ETM primarily for software functional requirements for electric power inverters and driveline actuator systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software development groups for software issue analysis through test and debugging.
  • Maintain test plans, test reports, result logs and provide detailed issue descriptions in IBM RTC, communicate changes and deviations, and maintain traceability and metrics.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives including test framework and process automation.

Required Skills and Education

Position requires: Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronics, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or foreign equivalent education, and 1 year experience working in the software validation field in the position of Software Engineer, Validation Engineer, Robotics Validation Engineer, Software Quality Assurance Engineer or other Software Engineering position. 1 year experience is required in each of the following:

  • Working with requirements and test management tools, including IBM DNG, or ETM, or RTC, or Atlassian Confluence, or Jira, or TestRail.
  • Conducting manual and automated test execution for software qualification or system integration for embedded systems.
  • Working with embedded systems testing and development tools.
  • Maintenance, design and specification of tests plans, test cases and test frameworks.
  • Support issue analysis and debugging with hardware and software development teams through testing.

Experience may be obtained concurrently.

Job Summary
The Software Quality Engineer ensures the compliance of computerized systems validation (CSV) according to applicable procedures, regulations and industry standards. Their primary responsibility is to evaluate computerized systems based on applicability, functionality, and process and product safety. Job Summary

The Software Quality Engineer ensures the compliance of computerized systems validation (CSV) according to applicable procedures, regulations and industry standards. Their primary responsibility is to evaluate computerized systems based on applicability, functionality, and process and product safety. They will support management and maintenance of the software inventory and will provide support to all Company Product Facilities in the Computerized System Validation Process.

Job Duties

  • Implements and analyzes the applicability of the different norms and standards in the introduction and development of software for manufacturing processes, quality management systems, engineering, and support processes.

  • Participates on and supports engineering teams in projects for the introduction and development of manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and software.

  • Effectively leads, participates on, and/or monitors cross-functional teams related to CSV process/product improvement as required.

  • Develops quality plans, manufacturing, risk analysis, and process mapping related to the implementation of computerized systems.

  • Leads and/or supports the development and implementation of risk analysis tools, development controls, software verification, validations, test methods, procedures and work instructions, and new technologies related to computerized systems.

  • Ensures and participates in the application of quality controls during engineering runs, validation, production and design transfers.

  • Supports the qualification of new suppliers related to the development of computerized systems for manufacturing processes, quality management systems, engineering, and support departments. - Responsible for updating and implementing improvements to the software validation system and procedures.

  • Complies and writes training material and conducts training sessions on CSV process and activities.

  • Communicates with and addresses customer concerns as necessary.

  • May conduct internal audits and support external audits when necessary.

  • Assure Job Hazard and Equipment Hazard Analysis are completed timely as required.

Who we are looking for:

The Manager, Software Validation Engineering will lead the software verification and validation team responsible for integrating electrical modules in vehicles, from concept through launch. This individual will develop and execute test strategies using tools like HIL, component benches, and automation environments, while ensuring software meets quality and program milestones. The manager will also mentor technical staff, oversee defect tracking, and drive continuous improvement in testing processes.

What you bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • 15+ years of software engineering and software validation experience, with a proven track record of successfully validating automotive modules.
  • 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience leading a highly technical team and capability to provide technical direction in terms of strategy and execution, aligning with strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems, automotive networks (CAN, LIN, etc.), and validation tools (CANoe, CANape, CANDiva, etc.).
  • Experience with defect / bug tracking and requirements management (Polarion, DOORS, Jira, etc.)
  • Track record of engaging with suppliers and engineering teams, and developing trusted relationships, influencing them through SW architecture and technology.
  • Track record of meeting deliverables on-time and on-specification.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced automotive development environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to travel domestically (up to 10%).
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
