AECOM has a position available for a **Solar Engineer** within the Renewables and Microgrid Team of the Energy Practice Engineering Center of Excellence. For this role, **AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States** .
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.). We are looking for an experience engineering professional with a solar PV design and power engineering background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in solar engineering coupled with experience acting in responsible charge of and leading tasks on projects.
The successful candidate is expected to be a detail orientated, experienced engineer who can make decisions independently under the guidance of senior staff. The focus of the experience must be in the power industry associated with solar engineering and design and their interconnection and distribution systems. Experience with battery energy storage and/or wind power is a plus. It is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into an project leadership role.
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
+ Responsible for the solar PV electrical engineering design work on assigned projects
+ Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
+ Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable energy projects
+ Monitoring your project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects
+ Solar PV system design including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount (fixed tilt and single-axis tracking) systems
+ Solar PV system energy production modelling
+ Developing solar construction and equipment specifications
+ Engineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing)
+ Support drawing production - Solar PV system One line and three-line diagrams, Cable and Conduit Schedules
+ Bill of Materials
+ PV system cost estimation and payback evaluations
+ DC and low to medium voltage power distribution design
+ Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
+ Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings
+ Occasional travel to client and/or project site

+ Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
+ Research and compile related data as required for each project.
+ Coordination with local authority having jurisdictions on permitting requirements.
+ Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations in support of project execution.
+ Act as a field engineer on construction sites.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
+ Comply with all policies and standards.
+ Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program, and 4 years of electrical engineering experience.
+ OR a bachelor's degree in electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 4 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
+ OR a master's degree in electrical engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
+ OR a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related Engineering Technology and 4 years of demonstrated experience performing detailed electrical engineering design for utility scale solar plants (> 5MW).
+ Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including team building, collaboration, and organization.
+ Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills.
+ Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
+ Strong computer skills include Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs, and other analysis programs.
+ Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification preferred, Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged.
