**We are seeking qualified candidates for our Energy Engineering Internship beginning in May 2026. This role is based in Pittsburgh, PA and open to current students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).**
**You'll make an impact by:**
+ Rotating through energy engineering, sales, and core business areas (HVAC, Fire/Life Safety, Security, and Sustainability Systems) to gain a holistic understanding of how Siemens delivers smart building solutions.
+ Spending the majority of your time on energy engineering activities-learning how HVAC systems impact energy use, performing calculations and simulations, supporting facility audits, gathering field data, and identifying opportunities for facility improvement measures (FIMs).
+ Contributing to project development by reviewing specifications and drawings, assisting with site visits, preparing energy savings analyses, and supporting preliminary and final proposals for customers.
+ Engaging directly with clients and Siemens teams by joining meetings, shadowing project managers, and collaborating with outside vendors and consultants to deliver sustainable solutions.

Basic Qualifications:
+ Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Pre-Engineering, or related field at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Candidates must not graduate prior to September 2026.
+ Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
+ Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week internship.
+ Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Pittsburgh, PA as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook). Skilled in using Windows laptops and adept at learning new software for programming and troubleshooting automation equipment.

As an Engineering Lead with Resource Innovations, you will assist commercial and industrial utility customers identify and implement energy-saving projects (e.g. upgrades to the facility’s lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, process equipment systems) by providing end-use customer account management, project identification, evaluation, and management services for utilities. Duties and Responsibilities
Provide program-level support to the client, customers, and contractors
- Think big picture and support the goal to influence customers to be energy efficient
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence and listening skills, and make wise recommendations/decisions quickly, despite ambiguity
- Serve as a trusted advisor and communications liaison to external teams (utility representatives, utility customers and contractors) and internal teams (business management and engineering)
- Earn and maintain client and customer trust to continually build relationships and implement energy savings recommendations
- Develop a strategic sales plan with strategies and tactics to maximize the delivery of savings for your service area
- Maximize program participation, identify project opportunities, provide immediate program, business, and technical services to customers
- Proactively find and deliver value – anticipate current and future program needs whenever possible
- Track outreach interactions and forecasted projects in a CRM
- Proactively manage projects that begin to stagnate and take appropriate action to close the project
Assist customers in identifying and managing projects
- Identify energy-saving projects through discussions with customers and contractors, review of available information (e.g., BAS screenshots, controls sequences, PIDs, drawings, and nameplate photos), on-site visits, etc.
- Recognize opportunities to involve engineers to assist with project identification for more complex systems
- Effectively screen opportunities to ensure project eligibility and viability
- Communicate the value of identified projects to motivate and influence the customer’s decision-making process
- Assist customers in prioritizing and managing the collection of identified energy-saving opportunities
- Eliminate customer barriers to project implementation

Requirements
- Academic degree in engineering, or similar technical discipline
- 4+ years of work experience in applicable application engineering, sales or outreach position, highly desirable
- A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial and industrial facilities: HVAC, lighting, motors, compressed air, refrigeration
- Ability to distill complex ideas into concise conversation/emails
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to develop customer relationships effectively and easily
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite of programs
- Ability to work remotely and manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
- Must be able to travel locally (within Kentucky) up to approximately 40% of the time

Compensation & Benefits
Resource Innovations offers competitive salaries based on a candidate's skills, experience and qualifications for the position. The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $84,872 - $102,000. In addition to base pay, employees are eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, education and location.
We also offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes three weeks of paid vacation per year; paid holidays; a 401(k)-retirement plan with employer matching; health, dental and vision insurance; and other supplemental benefits.

Develops electrical models and reports for detailed electrical design of a wide range of project sizes from commercial to utility scale. Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications. Prepares issued for construction signed and sealed design drawings and reports.
Your Impact
+ Provide guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to renewable energy balance of plant components, equipment specifications for procurement package development and pricing, IFR/IRC detailed design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations for design work.
+ Coordinate, review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller and less-complex projects, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
+ Perform professional and more complex electrical engineering work relating to the design of single line, three line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, schematics, cable schedules, grounding grid design and lightning protection in conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
+ Review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, protective device coordination, one-line diagram development, protective relaying, and substation switchyard layouts.
+ Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, construction safety and phasing plans, and updating electrical infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
+ Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and construction professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
+ Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.

Who You Are
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
+ 10+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for capital projects in renewable energy power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, and commercial scale.
+ Electrical Professional engineer license required.
+ Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
+ Extensive knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure design, including LV, DC, MV and HV systems along with relevant NFPA and IEEE standards.
+ Demonstrates competence and comprehensive knowledge concerning adjacent disciplines such as civil engineering, P&C, SCADA, and telecom.
+ Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
+ Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
+ Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies
+ Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
