**Responsibilities**
Program Management
- Manages internal and external cross-functional partnerships, monitors and resolves internal partner's issues without additional escalation, defines processes and governance for on-boarding and managing supplier partnerships, influences near-term sourcing decisions by discussing details and implications (e.g., tradeoffs, pricing), and seeks to align investments with supply needs to ensure continuity of supply in alignment with product and/or service roadmaps.

- Sets savings targets for managed categories. Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Ensures that supply chains are robust to disruptions and that mitigation plans are in place that can address issues with manufacturing, geography/geopolitics, seasonality, financial health, performance, and/or major unavoidable events (e.g., climate events, COVID-19) by sharing personal expertise and best practices. Serves as a primary point of escalation for leading the resolution of supply chain continuity issues.
- Researches markets, competitors, and industry trends. Performs analyses of supplier pricing, cost, capabilities, and capacity to provide materials and/or components for Microsoft products and/or services, and uses the results to make sourcing recommendations for sourcing strategies for one or more product categories.
- Makes recommendations for investments in new technologies, initiatives, components, and/or materials that are critical to products and/or services based on technical expertise in those products/services, suppliers, and industry trends. Acquires buy in from stakeholders to ensure that resources are in place and influences the adoption of technologies across specific product categories based on needs of Microsoft products or services. Makes recommendations for extending the life of existing investments.
- Defines, maintains, and executes on sourcing strategy for one or more complex product categories to ensure advantaged cost and sufficient continuity of supply while meeting quality goals (e.g., sustainability, repairability, etc.). Considers all relevant elements of technical roadmaps and business requirements (e.g., risk management, investments, supplier relationship, technology adoption) and partners with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing strategies and influence product-making decisions.
Supplier Management
- Manages the financial health of a product category by engaging cross-functionally early in the development stage of products and programs, and developing plans to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities. Compares suppliers' quoted costs and total costs of ownership with expected cost benchmarks and what products should cost, to forecast future state of the business, evaluates the systematic cost implications of sourcing decisions across product categories, and manages the resolution of complex ad hoc cost issues (e.g., tariffs/import export cost, cost inflation). Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Integrates business specifications for complex product categories into request for information (RFI) and/or request for proposal (RFP) processes. Collaborates cross-functionally to define and manage supplier scorecard criteria (e.g., key performance indicators (KPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs)). Recommends opportunities for suppliers to innovate, improve, and transform operational capabilities.
- Manages contract and price negotiation activities and strategies for complex product categories, ensuring that price, capacity, and business needs are met, appropriate risk mitigation measures are defined, and that suppliers are consistently driving costs competitiveness. Where appropriate, ensures compliance with Microsoft's requirements for cross-functional engagements with suppliers. Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Serves as Microsoft's central point of contact for suppliers within assigned product categories, leads the enablement and development of new suppliers, defines, and evaluates supplier financial health and key performance indicators (KPIs), leads regular business reviews with suppliers to ensure consistent compliance with Microsoft business requirements (e.g., security, social responsibility, payment terms), manages and holds suppliers accountable for exceptions to quality requirements, drives timely corrective actions from business reviews and audits, and facilitates efforts to drive suppliers toward their operational and cost metrics.
- Evaluates end-to-end supply chain operations, market conditions, and sourcing data to inform cross-functional decision making that enables continuous supply of products, components, and/or materials as needed to meet business and consumer demand. May flag risks, issues, and other critical factors related to suppliers' supply chain for senior management to inform sourcing decisions for components and/or materials for Microsoft devices. - Recommends and/or influences with minimal guidance whether or not to introduce new technologies, materials, or components for Microsoft products or cloud infrastructure based on the availability of supply, supplier capability and capacity, competitive and industry trends, and the impact on profits and losses. Evaluates long-term business needs, technology maturity, and tradeoffs to influence decision making and suggests processes for implementing changes.
- Supports early engagements with cross-functional leadership including product design, quality, and business teams to determine sourcing requirements for system integrators. Provides consultation and influences engineering design teams on the choice of materials and/or components that can be reliably sourced for products or service infrastructure, and highlights systemic implications of sourcing decisions beyond a single component.

**Responsibilities**
Market & Strategy Development
+ Research markets, competitors, and industry trends to inform and develop multi-year sourcing strategies for SSD.
+ Set savings targets across managed categories and share expertise in markets, competitors, and technologies.
Supplier Analysis & Strategy Execution
+ Analyze supplier pricing, cost structures, capabilities, and capacity to shape sourcing strategies.
+ Develop, maintain, and execute multi-year sourcing strategies to ensure advantaged cost, continuity of supply, and achievement of quality, sustainability, and repairability goals.
Risk Management
+ Ensure supply chains are resilient to disruptions by proactively developing and implementing mitigation plans for risks such as manufacturing, geopolitical, seasonal, or financial challenges.
Negotiation & Supplier Engagement
+ Lead contract and price negotiations for the SSD category, collaborating cross-functionally to meet price, capacity, and strategic business needs.
+ Serve as Microsoft's central point of contact for SSD suppliers to drive innovation and operational excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
+ Facilitate early engagement with cross-functional leadership-including product design, quality, and business teams-to determine sourcing requirements.
+ Evaluate end-to-end supply chain operations, market conditions, and sourcing data to inform cross-functional decision-making and ensure continuous supply.
Technology & Innovation Influence
+ Recommend and influence adoption of new technologies, materials, or components based on supply availability, supplier capability, industry trends, and business impact.
Governance & Issue Resolution
+ Manage internal and external cross-functional partnerships, define processes and governance for supplier relationships, and serve as a point of escalation to resolve supply issues and ensure continuity.
Budget & Investment Alignment
+ Make and deliver on budget commitments, leveraging technical expertise to guide investment decisions and extend the life of existing assets in alignment with short- and long-term supply needs.
**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
+ OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 8+ years of experience of SSD technologies, NAND market dynamics, and supplier ecosystems (e.g., TLC vs QLC, Gen4 vs Gen5 PCIe interfaces).
+ 8+ years of experienc representing a team in strategic forums and simplifying complex issues for executive stakeholders.
+ 8+ years of experience in managing supplier/customer relationships and resolving escalations to ensure continuity of supply.

Sourcing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $74,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD 188,000 - 304,200 per year.

The Sourcing Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing our supply base by identifying and qualifying new or alternative suppliers to mitigate risks associated with components and suppliers. This position involves translating clinical feedback into actionable design and engineering changes, supporting design improvements, and new product development in collaboration with suppliers.

  • Support all phases of supplier development & negotiation with practical working knowledge of commodity manufacturing processes.
  • Support complex supply chain optimization involving multiple technologies, suppliers, and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform supplier evaluations, development, qualification, and selection to meet commodity, production, and supply strategies.
  • Identify and communicate sourcing risks throughout the product cycle to mitigate supply risk.
  • Closely partner with leadership to identify potential new sources to support business objectives.
  • Work with sourcing, quality and suppliers to ensure appropriate specifications are developed for components and assemblies.
  • Learn and apply understanding of manufacturing technologies, knowing the advantages/disadvantages of various manufacturing methods for different commodity types, manufacturability, and relation to design specifications, traceability, and process control.
  • Understanding or aptitude to learn the product categories assigned and how end-users interface with the products
  • Track and manage improvements in procured component supply risk, quality, material cost, and lead time.
  • Manage and coordinate all sourcing project deliverables in support of supply improvements.
  • Ability to plan and execute project timelines for assigned categories, with guidance from manager.
  • With guidance and oversight from manager, individual must be able to use knowledge about supplier to execute strategies, create leverage, and mitigate risks.
  • Under supervision, the individual is responsible for the sourcing process for their assigned portfolio. Including market research, bid preparation, RFI/RFP, contract negotiations, and contract launch.
  • Oversee supplier relationship during the sourcing process. Lead supplier business reviews and review new products/technologies as they arise in assigned categories.
  • Own supplier related issues through to resolution and provide recommendations for replacement should resolution not be possible.
  • Collaborate with multiple functions across various time zones in a professional, well-organized and results-oriented manner.
  • Meet/exceed timeline, financial and operational goals in the annual plan.

What you will need for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
