Position Overview

Join us in our fast-paced support to develop, advance, and sustain weapon systems for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners. You will be joining a team of personnel with experience and an in-depth understanding of the environments that include ground, near-space, space, and any system that operates in those environments to meet current and projected strategic, operational, and tactical needs for the Department of Defense (DoD). We are seeking a Space Systems Architect in Huntsville, AL with extensive experience with modeling and simulation support. This includes engineering and technical expertise for modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) support for space defense efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience performing and implementing National-level studies as well as conducting analysis of alternatives and concept of operations type studies. This position requires an individual who can work closely with technical teams, stakeholders, and partners to ensure program success.

Responsibilities

    Provide MS&A for the development of Space Protection and Space Control mission area architectures and alternatives
  • Develop, deliver, review, and evaluate impact analysis, audits, studies, compliance inspections, and readiness reviews for force packaging, courses of action, and other evaluation requirements
  • Support JCIDS, and other documentation such as Analysis of Alternatives, Concept of Operations, Technical Evaluations, etc.
  • Identify areas of improvement and provide recommendations including technical changes where appropriate
  • Provide program assessments based on identified risks as well as combine/correlate program execution data against baselines
  • Assist integrated product teams and working groups
Required Qualifications
  • 20 years of experience in MS&A for space defense effort(s)
  • Proficiency in MS&A tools for providing advice and assistance as well as interpretation of results
  • Knowledge of Assessment of National Space Control Capabilities, Space Protection Program, Space Situational Awareness, and National-level and Joint-level studies and analysis

KBR is seeking Space Systems Engineers to join our Hemisphere team. Work location is El Segundo, CA supporting Space Systems Command (SSC). Qualified applicants will serve as a trusted advisor and expert on space systems control functions and support engineering services required to enable and support the protect and defend (P&D) mission set for SSC. Successful candidates will be highly knowledgeable in design and development of entire space systems, including subcomponents. Additionally, they will be well versed in multiple space operations and space control-related fields, including but not limited to: orbital mechanics, navigation, sensor employment, communications, optimization, and command and control.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Provide technical, acquisition, and operational support across a portfolio of space programs.
+ Support all phases of the space acquisition lifecycle, including engineering, operations, advanced technology integration, and performance analysis.
+ Develop and revise acquisition and JCIDS documentation (e.g., CONOPS, ICDs, AoAs, milestone packages) in compliance with DoD standards.
+ Prepare technical and programmatic status reports and support internal and external briefings.
+ Identify and recommend improvements to acquisition processes and risk management strategies; support development of risk mitigation plans.
+ Support cost/schedule performance analysis.
+ Review and analyze contractor deliverables (e.g., IMS, CFSRs, WBS) for compliance and performance; support DCMA surveillance and IMS reconciliation.
+ Monitor program schedules, acquisition implementation, and requirement fulfillment; maintain accurate acquisition reporting.
+ Participate in technical engagements such as design reviews, working groups, and program meetings; support IPTs and stakeholder coordination.
+ Provide mission protection and operational insight; evaluate technical anomalies and support readiness reviews, audits, and compliance assessments.
Qualifications Required:
+ Master of Science degree in related science field (orbital mechanics, space physics, etc) and three (3) years or more of experience.
+ A Bachelor's degree is acceptable if the candidate possesses at least 12 years of experience in this type of position or program.
+ Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
Desired:
+ Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and software engineering best practices.
+ Experience serving as a team lead, project leader, or program manager on performance-based contracts for the U.S. Government.
+ Highly adept with writing and delivering documents and briefings with effective communication skills and style that promote a variety of ideas as they pertain to working, interfacing, and leading multi-disciplined team of engineers
Basic Compensation:
$115,000 - $165,000
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's work location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, clearance level, contract affordability and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor of Science and twenty-five (25) years or more experience; Master of Science and twenty (20) years or more experience; 4 additional years of experience may be used in lieu of degree
+ Experience with space systems and/or military satellite communication systems
+ Experience with technical requirements development, systems engineering, systems integration, and overseeing development contractor to develop, design, produce, integrate and test space systems
+ Experience with requirements verification and validation
+ Must have an in-scope security background investigation (T5 or SSBI), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and enrolled in the Continuous Evaluation program (if applicable)
+ Must be willing to be nominated for access to Sensitive Compartment Information and Special Access Programs and willing to consent to a Polygraph examination
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Basic Compensation: $190,000 to $230,000. This range is for the California area only
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

**Qualifications**
+ Current TS/SCI clearance with current poly.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering (systems mechanical, electrical or related discipline) and 5 years relevant work experience or a Master's degree in engineering (systems, mechanical, electrical or related discipline) and 3 years of relevant work experience.
+ Demonstrated space systems engineering experience.
+ Demonstrated NRO Special Program Office (SPO) or Major Systems Acquisition (MSA) experience.
+ Experience providing acquisition support to include working budgets, schedules, contracts (drafting SOWs, CDRLs, RFPs), and supporting source selection efforts.
+ Experience working at the NRO.
**Desired Qualifications**
+ Experience supporting varied portfolio projects with dissimilar technical focuses; ideally experienced managing R&D projects.
+ Strong interpersonal skill with effective technical writing and briefing skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and energetic setting.

Essential Job Function

  • Requirements Decomposition & Traceability: Translate high-level mission needs into architectural requirements and ensure traceability across system components and stakeholders
  • Modeling, Simulation & Trade Analysis: Develop architecture models and conduct trade studies to assess performance, resiliency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of alternative designs.
  • Technology Integration & Roadmapping: Identify and incorporate emerging technologies, ensuring architectural flexibility to support rapid insertion and future growth.
  • Cross-Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate across government, contractor, and mission partner teams to ensure architectural alignment, interoperability, and technical cohesion across all domains.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MA/MS with over 10 years of experience
  • Experience providing modeling and simulation support
  • Engineering and technical expertise for modeling, simulation, and analysis support for space defense efforts (Assessment of National Space Control Capabilities (ANSCC), Space Protection Program (SPP), Space Situational Awareness (SSA), National-level and Joint-level studies and analysis, as required
  • Executive Agent for Space Systems (EASS) expertise in the following areas: detailed working knowledge of modeling, simulation, and study activities
  • Expertise in performing and implementing National-level studies
  • Expertise and support in leading analysis of alternative and concept of operation type studies
