General Purpose of Job:
To provide anesthesia and pain management services to emergency and surgical patients of both an elective and emergency nature
Essential Duties
* Participates actively in hospital and community committees, processes, and activities as appropriate.
* Conduct pre-op and post-op evaluation, inter-operative and other monitoring, and documentation of same.
* Demonstrates compliance with professional as well as regulatory standards.
* Provides guidance and counsel to anesthesia and support staff which may include in-services, orientation, etc.
* Promotes effective interdepartmental relationships and provides for coordinated patient services.
* Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff regarding patient care.
* Demonstrates fiscal responsibility (activities that decrease cost of care, verify cost savings, etc).
* Actively participates in hospital planning, procedure development, and recruitment.
* Complies with and participates in Performance Improvement, and staff and patient satisfaction.
* Completes special projects/tasks as assigned by Administration (responds to Code Blue, RRT's and other airway management requests, IV insertion support, etc., as available).
* Attends mandatory educational programs, maintains professional development.
Job Requirements
General Requirements • Current Michigan License to practice as a certified nurse anesthetist. • Current Michigan License to practice as a registered nurse. • Current BLS • Current ACLS • PALS & HIC preferred Work Experience • Minimum of four (4) years experience in anesthesia. Education • Graduate of an advanced nursing program Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Ability to work with diverse staff and patient population. • Strong, positive interpersonal and communication skills. • Mastery of critical thinking skills as well as of nursing practice and leadership skills.

- Interacts with patients, visitors, professional medical staff, and office staff in a professional manner.
- Answers phone line and refers patient calls to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintains equipment and supplies, as directed, to ensure it is operational. Operates medical equipment as necessary as directed by manager.
- Maintains the standards of care and implements the policies and procedures of UMH-Sparrow Carson.
- Assists with emergency measures for sudden adverse reactions with patients.

- Provides assistance in room preparation, turnover, and cleanup
- Identifies surgical procedure to be performed, orders case cart from Sterile Processing, ensures necessary equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available for procedure
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Provides assistance in Sterile Processing as needed.
General Requirements
* Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) - OR - Tech in Surgery Certification (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) at time of hire. * Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.

Description:
Contract must continue into January.
The earliest end date is January 3.
Traveler may request one holiday off.
Locals accepted for one contract.
Same pay for locals.
Traveler must be available for two of three major holidays, including the day before and the day after.
Ratios are 1:4-6.
Weekend requirements are three weekends per four-week schedule.
Floating to all adult acute care units may be required to meet facility needs.
RTO needs to be submitted at the time of profile.
RTO blocked for specific dates.
Guaranteed hours are 36 for three 12-hour shifts or 48 hours for four 12-hour shifts.
Special requirements include accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, and care of ventilated patients.
Common patient diagnoses include pre-and post-operative care, arrhythmias, heart failure, trauma, and stroke patients.
Unit highlights include an interdisciplinary support team for various medical needs.
Preferred experience includes trauma level I and additional certifications.
Documentation due date is the Tuesday prior to start.
All candidates must be able to provide proof of high school level education.

Interdisciplinary support includes various healthcare teams.
Experience in trauma level 1 preferred.
