- **Education:** Earned undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university and a Master of Divinity or equivalent degree from an accredited theological seminary or divinity school. **Summary**
**SUMMARY:** The Manager, Spiritual Care Department, plans, administers, manages, supports, advocates for, and evaluates the activities and staff of the Spiritual Care Department at Alameda, San Leandro, Fairmont, and Wilma Chan Highland Hospitals. The incumbent is responsible for the daily operation of the Spiritual Care Department, providing the full range of managerial duties including managing chaplains, delegating work, scheduling staff, evaluating performance, developing policies and procedures, developing budget, maintaining operational expenses within budget and performing other administrative duties as needed. The Spiritual Care Department Manager will also serve as the Alameda Hospital chaplain part-time and provide religious, spiritual and emotional support to patients, their loved ones, and staff; they will also plan, conduct, and coordinate spiritual and religious activities hospital wide. Performs related duties as required.
**DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Manages a staff of chaplains, and is fully accountable for all personnel matters including hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
2. Confers with staff chaplains regularly regarding techniques used and related matters for the purpose of supporting and evaluating professional development and assuring quality of care, as well as reviewing work in progress.
3. Conducts staff meetings and ensures chaplain coverage across the system.
4. Performs other administrative managerial duties including development of annual budget process and performing office management functions.
5. Performs the duties of Chaplain at Alameda Hospital and covers shifts for AHS chaplains on PTO.
6. Provides emotional, spiritual, and religious support to employees, patients, and visitors.
7. Collaborates with members of the hospital care team in identifying and addressing spiritual issues.
8. Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital staff during times of spiritual crisis, e.g. illness, dying, lengthy or difficult surgery.
9. Completes medical chart documentation for all patient and family visits.
10. Serves as a community representative for Spiritual Care at Alameda Health System
_Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying._
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**
Education : Graduate theological degree (or equivalent graduate degree) from an accredited institution AND ordained/endorsed for health care chaplaincy by a recognized religious/spiritual body
Education: 4 CPE units preferred, Good standing and endorsement from your religious/spiritual tradition
Minimum Experience: Completion of one or a combination of the following: 1). Twelve months or four quarters of an approved full-time resident clinical pastoral training program

The **UW Medical Center-Montlake Spiritual Care and Wellbeing Department** has an outstanding opportunity for a **Spiritual Care Provider (Chaplain)** .
**WORK SCHEDULE**
- Per Diem
- One night Standby/On Call required per week (4 shifts/month)
- Day shift coverage periodically available for holiday, vacation and weekend coverage
- Flexibility of schedule and availability on holiday weekends preferred.
This role requires availability from 4:15 pm-8:00 am. **Candidates must be within 45 minutes of the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake campus (1959 NE Pacific St Main Hospital, Seattle, WA 98195)** **.** Spiritual Care Providers do not sleep overnight at the hospital.
**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
- We are currently looking for standby availability for one (or more) of these nights: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday. Additional opportunities to cover day shifts will be available intermittently (e.g. staff vacations, holidays and some weekend shifts)

**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Cultivate and model the UWMC Service Culture Guidelines (Respect, Compassion, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Teamwork, Collaboration, Innovation and Excellence) and the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
- Provide trauma-informed spiritual care to UWMC patients, responding to requests for service promptly; documenting spiritual care assessments, interventions, outcomes, plans of care.
- Provide excellent clinical care and be an active part of the department's ongoing learning community.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in care coordination of patients and caregivers. Make appropriate referrals to members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Support staff wellbeing via rounding, Tea for the Soul, facilitating formal and informal trauma and critical incident debriefings and grief support.
- Effectively assess and address spiritual distress, goals of care, hopes, needs and resources
- Effectively communicate with UWMC and Fred Hutch Cancer Center Spiritual Health Teams for highest quality plan of care coordination
- Execute handoffs, charting, and staff care statistics as requested by the department in a timely and effective manner.
**REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master of Divinity (MDiv) or equivalent from seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools
- Have completed at least one unit of CPE in the ACPE Program. Preference to those who have completed four units of CPE
- Must be in good standing with a nationally recognized religious, spiritual, or philosophical body.
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- This is an on-call/per diem position, which will require working weekly standby/on-call shifts from 4:30pm-8:00am. Most Per diems cover a regularly weekly night shift. Covering a night shift makes you eligible to cover day shifts as they emerge for holiday, vacation and weekend coverage.
- The 16 hour overnight Standby (on-call) shifts originate at home until the Spiritual Care Provider is called into the hospital to support patients, family, or staff.

**Job Summary**
Provides direct spiritual care for patients, family members, and PeaceHealth caregivers across the continuum of care. Demonstrates a spiritual presence to all people which is compassionate, accepting, respectful, and sensitive. Works as a member of the health care team and with other health care professionals. Promotes healing of mind, body, and spirit through direct care, leadership, and pastoral education. **Essential Functions**
+ Assumes responsibility to provide spiritual care to patients and families in assigned areas and by referral and participation in interdisciplinary teams and other health care teams or service lines. Offers holistic spiritual care and counsel to address the spiritual, psychological, social, and physical needs of patients, families, and health care teams.
+ Assists others as they seek to make meaning during crises and as they try to integrate their personal, spiritual, and health care journeys. Facilitates theological reflection as appropriate.
+ Provides and documents interventions and interactions; requests follow up by other chaplains/disciplines as appropriate.
+ Assist people to move through immediate and emerging crisis/trauma. Provides crisis debriefing and support to health care teams as needed.
+ Assists others in ethical decision making, which may include Advance Care Planning, consistent with their values and belief system and in accordance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services (ERDs).
+ Provides notification, consultation and support for faith community leaders of patients and families wishing their faith community leaders notified and involved in their care. Works closely with faith community leaders to ensure patients' spiritual needs are met during hospitalization and appropriate referrals for post-discharge spiritual care are made.
+ Provides support, resource, and leadership for the programs, initiatives, and on-going department functions and goals as assigned.
+ Provides support, education, and consultation to members of health care teams as they seek personal and professional growth in becoming more effective caregivers and in providing care which is relational, patient centered, and holistically oriented.

**Here's What You Need**
**Education**
Bachelor's Degree Accredited program 4 Years **REQUIRED**
Will accept 4 years of experience in congregational pastoral care (not general ministry) in lieu of a Bachelor's degree **REQUIRED** and
Master's Degree Master's of Divinity, Theology, or related degree from a Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) accredited theological school 72-hour degree program preferred
**Experience**
4 Years Without a Bachelor's degree - 4 years of experience in Congregational Pastoral Care **REQUIRED** or
With a Bachelor's degree - no previous experience required **REQUIRED** and
Experience in congregational or hospital setting preferred and
1 unit of CPE from an ACPE-accredited center **HIGHLY PREFERRED**
**Skills**
Good communication skills, both written and oral. Competency in basic computer use and electronic communication tools, e.g., email, calendar.
Ability to work with and relate to people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to offer non-anxious presence and work with people during a time of crisis and bereavement, offering compassionate care.
Proficiently document patient care in the electronic medical record and demonstrate this proficiency.
Ability to offer religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and/or staff. When appropriate, ability to refer to outside clergy to meet patient sacramental or religious rites needs.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that supports various entities/locations based upon patient volumes and operational needs.
**What You Will Do**
**Patient care:**
Provide professional pastoral and spiritual care to patients and their loved ones, using excellent listening, observational, assessment, and interventional skills. Assess patient and family spiritual resources and vulnerabilities, offering corresponding interventions. Document care in electronic medical record, using Pastoral Care standardized processes. Ability to respond to calls within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes. Provide on-call report when called into the hospital.
**Support Pastoral Care Department:**
Report payroll exceptions promptly. Participate in Pastoral Care staff meetings. Be knowledgeable of and comply with all Pastoral Care Department policies and procedures. Complete required Pastoral Care Department training and any MyTalent modules when assigned. When providing in-house coverage, participate in the ritual life of the hospital, e.g., FINAL SALUTES, memorial services, award ceremonies, and other similar celebrations and special events within the hospital. Perform other duties as assigned.
