The Sports Performance Coach is responsible for personal training, small group training sessions and implementing sport performance programs for youth, athletes, and teams.

- Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be regularly required to perform physical activity that includes moving about the work area, standing, sitting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and smelling. The team member will be frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. He or she is required to have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Lifting requirements: The team member will occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, lower and/or move up to 10 lbs regularly, and frequently up to 50 lbs repeatedly as required to instruct members on the use of strength equipment.
- Noise Level: The noise level in this environment is typically moderate to loud.

Qualifications:

Per pay transparency requirements, the compensation for this position ranges from $20/hr to $30/hr. Minimum rates may vary based on local wage laws. Pay is dependent on factors including site location, specialty, certifications and work experience as well as other business needs. Position
Under the general direction of the Director of Sports Performance, the Assistant Director of Sports Performance is responsible for the implementation of the athletics performance enhancement programs for Division I athletic teams. They will provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of the Sports Performance program, including the following duties:
- Assist with the implementation of the sports performance program to enhance athletic performance for Division I athletic teams
- Coordinate with coaching staff of Division I athletic teams to implement a safe and effective pre-season, in-season and off-season sport-specific performance programs
- Instruct, monitor, and educate all student-athletes regarding proper resistance training techniques
- Communicate and work in partnership with sports medicine personnel to provide an integrated program of injury mitigation, reconditioning, and performance training
- Assist with the daily operation of the weight room, including scheduling, inventory, maintenance, and purchasing of new equipment
- Assist with the develop and implementation of policies and procedures for risk management, appropriate supervision, record keeping, evaluation, and maintenance
- Assist with supervising Sports Performance staff
- Attend practices and competitions as requested
- Work with the Director of Sports Performance to establish strategic partnerships to enhance the Sports Performance center
- Know and abide by NCAA, University, & Big West rules and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science or a related field

Overview
Northern Illinois University ( NIU ) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director Sports Performance. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Performance, this position is responsible for assisting in the management and administration of all phases of the sports performance operations.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance, the individual in this position is responsible for all aspects of strength and conditioning for the assigned sports programs. This position is a professional coaching position, and all the duties of the position must be conducted in adhering to the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the MidAmerican conference (or subsequent conference) and the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Responsible for the development, safety and conduct of the team(s) in the weight room.
- Strive to reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and teaching proper rehabilitative methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warmups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests.
- Provide detailed instructions to execute all training exercises safely and correctly specific to performance enhancement methods to achieve desired results.

- Support recommendations as set forth by the athletics department designated registered dietitian for good nutrition and supplementation for the health and performance of the student-athletes.
- Promote commitment, teamwork and develop a working relationship, establish rapport with, and ensure open lines of communication with the coaching staff, student-athletes of all teams, athletic training staff and administration.
- Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, community instruction through camps and/or clinics as requested.
- Assist with departmental needs as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

- Certification through the collegiate strength and conditioning coaches association ( SCCC certification) or the national strength and conditioning association ( CSCS certification).
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in collegiate or professional strength and conditioning setting.
- When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff are encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts.
- As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association ( NCAA ) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your positions responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.
- Ability to communicate well with student-athletes and coaches.
- Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff and other athletic department personnel.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours which include morning, nights, and weekends.
- Minimum two-years experience in strength and conditioning on the university or college level, preferably D1 institution.
- Minimum one year of administrative experience in a sports training, department, or program (sports science, internship coordinator, return to play protocol etc.).
- Sitting, standing, walking, running, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.

What You’ll Do

Under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance, the Head Sports Performance Coach is responsible for assisting with the overall management, success, and performance of the strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes while overseeing one of the performance facilities as assigned.
1. Supervising, planning, and implementing sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for all assigned sports teams on a year-round basis. This shall include developing, monitoring and evaluating speed, agility, strength and conditioning regimes, and ensuring fundamental instruction is provided. Provide assistance with the supervision and training of part-time strength & conditioning coaches and students (interns, volunteers and work-study).
2. Serving as head performance coach for the sport of ice hockey which includes attendance and assistance at all games. Additionally, serve as sports performance coach of additional teams as assigned.
3. Working closely with designated head coaches, or their designee, to plan, organize and facilitate strength & conditioning needs of each team, including scheduling use of weight room facilities.
4. Collaborating effectively with Athletic Health Care staff to ensure student-athletes’ needs are appropriately managed.
5. Assisting with budget for assigned performance facility. Maintaining proper strength & conditioning equipment and making purchase of new equipment for assigned facility.
6. Ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and enforcing safety procedures.
7. Communicating effectively with students, coaches, staff, and alumni.
8. Adhering to University, NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
9. Maintaining current certification as required by governing bodies sanctioned by NCAA.
