Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Sports & Recreation Manager, trainers will work with youth of various ages. Trainers must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Trainers will supervise and assist in activities for personal training sessions with children ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. Trainers ensure the safety and well-being of players while they are in their care.

The Campus Recreation Business Office Student Staff are the first people patrons see when they enter the gym. This position is customer service centric, being the first line of departmental contact for all patrons entering and using Half Acre Gym. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Description

Grand Canyon University is seeking an Intramural Sports Official to support the mission of Grand Canyon University through GCU's Campus Recreation department.

Purpose within the Organization:

The purpose of this position is to assist the Intramural Manager and Intramural Coordinator in working the various programs offered within Intramural Sports.

Responsibilities Related to Purpose:

  • Officiate Intramural contests.
  • Assist with pre and post-game logistics and administrative functions.
  • Assist with preparation and inspection of the game site.
  • Understand emergency/evacuation procedures.
  • Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education to participants.
  • Verify participant eligibility.
  • Attend all officials training clinics.
  • Provide a friendly, upbeat, and customer service oriented environment at all times.
  • Proficiently use a Fox 40 whistle
Equipment Used and Responsibility:
  • Proficient in using Fox 40 Whistle
Qualifications:
  • General knowledge of recreational sports programs.
  • Possess good leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Possess good conflict resolution skills.
  • Genuine interest in serving students.
  • Available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Intramural Sports policies and procedures.
  • A thorough knowledge of the officiating aspect of Intramural Sports.
  • Ability to deal with difficult people in a professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy.
Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program or Master's program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
