**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
_Thinking Critically_
+ Identifies opportunities and suggests enhancements to the current and future state month-end close process, financial reporting, and funds management.
+ Responsibility for key areas of the financial close variance analysis process.
+ Enforces funds management policies, uses knowledge of account structure, and maintains internal controls around new non-sponsored financial master data requests for the School of Medicine.
_Problem Solving_
+ Identifies accounting and master data issues and recommends strategies to leadership.
+ Subject matter expert in reconciling, researching, and analyzing key financial transactions.
_Coordinates_
+ Conducts monthly close analysis and reporting.
+ Coordinates key strategic projects when identified and requested by SOM Central Finance leadership.
+ Meets with University and SOM colleagues to ensure two-way communication, knowledge transfer, and a shared understanding around the preparation of SOM financial statements and schedules.
_Applies_
+ Incorporates knowledge on GAAP, the close process, SOM operations, and other accounting and financial concepts to complete financial statement budget variance analysis.
+ Assists in the review and approval of all non-sponsored master data requests, and partner with departments to provide training to new master data requestors.
+ Creates monthly journal entries for timely posting, and review of other preparers' entries.
+ Applies the funds management and first dollar principle assists with the University's annual closeout process.
+ Understanding of and commitment to the Johns Hopkins mission.
_Creates/Prepares/Develops_
+ Prepares monthly close analyses, reporting, and budget variance reporting on revenue and expense line items.
+ Identifies prepaid expense opportunities.
+ Develops trended data reports and presentations as requested.
+ Assists in the creation the SOM's quarterly projection estimates.
_Analyzes/Interprets_
+ Analyzes and prepares what-if scenarios and other required analyses as part of the GAAP and monthly close statements process.
+ A key contributor for providing financial information that can be used for managerial reports, financial statements, strategic planning and decision making.
_Manages_
+ Contributor to the management in producing accurate and timely GAAP and monthly close statements.
+ Partners with other members of the Financial Operations team in the management and oversight of the SOM's master data request process.
_Trains/Communicates_
+ Ensures that School and department colleagues are familiar with internal controls and adherence to them.
+ Provides training to colleagues around new master data requests.
_Collaborates/Communicates_
+ Establishes partnership with Associate Director of Financial Reporting and other Financial Operations colleagues; FP&A colleagues; Faculty Practice colleagues; Research colleagues; University Controller; JHHS/JHM Finance colleagues; Clinical and Academic Department Finance Staff and Directors.
+ Utilizes communication, organizational, and analytic skills required to achieve goals in a complex organization.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
+ Three years of progressively responsible financial and business operations experience, preferably in a large and complex organization.
+ If bachelor's degree is in unrelated field, four years of progressively responsible experience is required.
+ Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
+ Advanced Excel skills, with demonstrated knowledge of pivot tables, formulas, and other functions.
+ Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience in preparing financial statements across multiple units.
+ Working knowledge of SAP system.
+ Experience with other data reporting tools, such as Tableau.

Requirements
