Job Summary: The Security Officer works under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Work Shift Supervisor (Police Sergeant). Their performance is focused on the protection, safeguarding, security and customer service needs of patients, visitors, employees, their possessions and Medical Center property, in a manner that maintains the highest quality of safety and service to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center community.
**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Patrol facility and grounds or maintain fixed post coverage, inspecting for security, health and safety hazards, unauthorized persons and unsecured doors and windows, making notifications or taking corrective action as necessary.
2. Respond to calls for service, alarm and emergency code activation, rendering first aid, traffic / pedestrian control, and assistance to clinicians such as deescalating emotionally distressed persons who may pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
3. Provide escort for patients, visitors and employees to parking areas and other campus facilities.
4. Direct traffic, monitor parking compliance and provide direction to destinations, to facilitate patients, visitors and employees who are navigating their way through the Medical Center.
5. Utilize computer systems to document work activity and to assist visitors in determining where patients are located.
**Required Qualifications:**
1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
2. 1-3 years related work experience required.
3. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Public Safety Officer **Department of Public Safety, Stanford, California, United States** Security Post Date Jan 25, 2024 Requisition # **Job Purpose** Perform non-sworn, un-armed security and parking enforcement duties to provide a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to the Stanford campus. **Position Description** Public Safety Officers (PSO) support the overall public safety mission of the Stanford Department of Public Safety (DPS) by performing a variety of functions. PSOs work under the general supervision of a civilian supervisor, sergeant, or other designated officer in charge. Specific duties may include: patrolling designated areas of the University by foot, bicycle, motor vehicle or other DOT approved method of transportation for suspicious and/or illegal behavior, safety hazards, unlocked doors, opportunities to assist the public, etc.; enforcing violations of the University's Parking Code; providing traffic control services and/or logistical support during emergencies and special events; providing first aid or CPR; standing a security post in a potentially dangerous location; and staffing the Operations Desk monitoring the daily security and event operations of DPS' field personnel. PSOs wear a uniform and a duty belt with limited gear; the position can require moderate to strenuous activity. The primary purpose of the Public Safety Supervisor position is to plan and supervise the daily activities of UTPD Public Safety Officers and Senior Public Safety Officers, to be the main contact and resolution point for building occupants in order to resolve security and safety issues, and to maintain and implement policies, procedures and operational plans for ensuring safety and security. Coordinate with Police personnel as necessary to maintain standards, effective communication, and continuous improvement processes for delivery of security services in their assigned area. Develop, train and evaluate personnel to meet professional standards and customer expectations. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, observe, report and facilitate the orderly response to and if necessary, evacuation of buildings and structures.

Meets and confers with security and access control systems management to ensure he/she and the staff have a clear and thorough working knowledge of security devices and protocols. Ensures security devices are operating reliably and as intended, and that devices in failure are reported immediately when detected.
