**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Patrol facility and grounds or maintain fixed post coverage, inspecting for security, health and safety hazards, unauthorized persons and unsecured doors and windows, making notifications or taking corrective action as necessary.
2. Respond to calls for service, alarm and emergency code activation, rendering first aid, traffic / pedestrian control, and assistance to clinicians such as deescalating emotionally distressed persons who may pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
3. Provide escort for patients, visitors and employees to parking areas and other campus facilities.
4. Direct traffic, monitor parking compliance and provide direction to destinations, to facilitate patients, visitors and employees who are navigating their way through the Medical Center.
5. Utilize computer systems to document work activity and to assist visitors in determining where patients are located.
**Required Qualifications:**
1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
2. 1-3 years related work experience required.
3. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Public Safety Officer **Department of Public Safety, Stanford, California, United States** Security Post Date Jan 25, 2024 Requisition # **Job Purpose** Perform non-sworn, un-armed security and parking enforcement duties to provide a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors to the Stanford campus. **Position Description** Public Safety Officers (PSO) support the overall public safety mission of the Stanford Department of Public Safety (DPS) by performing a variety of functions. PSOs work under the general supervision of a civilian supervisor, sergeant, or other designated officer in charge. Specific duties may include: patrolling designated areas of the University by foot, bicycle, motor vehicle or other DOT approved method of transportation for suspicious and/or illegal behavior, safety hazards, unlocked doors, opportunities to assist the public, etc.; enforcing violations of the University's Parking Code; providing traffic control services and/or logistical support during emergencies and special events; providing first aid or CPR; standing a security post in a potentially dangerous location; and staffing the Operations Desk monitoring the daily security and event operations of DPS' field personnel. PSOs wear a uniform and a duty belt with limited gear; the position can require moderate to strenuous activity. The ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to adapt physically and psychologically to frequently changing needs and priorities. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, the ability to problem solve, a high level of energy, enthusiasm and flexibility are key characteristics of the successful incumbent. Work is performed primarily on-site; the position is subject to shift work and could be assigned to work any of the following: day, swing, or night shifts (including holidays), as well as a rotation which could include regular weekend work. Mandatory overtime is also required from time-to-time. Outdoor work is required, sometimes in inclement weather. All benefits-eligible members of the Stanford Department of Public Safety are considered essential (or required) university personnel for purposes of managing emergencies and critical incidents impacting significant portions of the campus. As such, all benefits-eligible DPS personnel are expected to respond to campus during a major emergency. **Core Duties** Duties may include the following: **Safety and Security** + Patrol designated areas of the campus looking for suspicious and/or illegal behavior, safety hazards, unlocked doors, opportunities to assist the public, etc., document concerns and notify the appropriate university departments of issues that should be addressed. + Respond to door alarms in the student housing and academic areas of campus. + Open and/or close the Field Sites and Matadero Creek Trail access. + Provide information, directions and assistance to community members. + Coordinate the campus Bike Abatement program including abandoned bike tagging and pickup, and abandoned bike sales/donations. **Parking Enforcement** + Patrol designated areas of the University to enforce University parking regulations. Issue parking citations using license plate recognition system, electronic ticket writer or other tools provided. + Conduct periodic parking utilization surveys at the request of Transportation Services (TS). + Provide directed enforcement in areas of concern on campus. **Event Support** + Prepare and/or post parking space reservation signs and other event/parking/traffic control signs for special events and details on campus. Remove signs after the event has concluded. + Deploy barricades, cones and other traffic control equipment per directions as part of event setup. Remove barricades and other safety equipment after the event. + Drive various size trucks/vehicles including forklift to transport equipment, including towing barricade trailers. + Provide safety, security, traffic control, logistics support and other services during campus details. Will require mandatory overtime, sometimes with little notice. + Problem-solve to provide the best experience for attendees of events while also ensuring public safety. **Operations Desk Support** + Staff assigned shifts at the DPS Operations Desk, a central point of information coordination for ongoing campus activities. + Monitor radio traffic and incoming phone calls, responding accordingly. + Issue equipment to incoming special events patrol/outside security reporting to the Ops Desk window for security/event assignments. + Track activities of on-duty field personnel, record information on daily Ops Desk log. + Remain alert to incidents which would require the issuance of a mass notification message during assigned shift. Draft and send alert notifications per department practice using the university's AlertSU system. **Additional Duties and Responsibilities** + Provide logistical support during emergencies and critical incidents. + Implement the Incident Command System during a major incident. + Other duties as assigned. **Minimum Education and Experience Required** + High School diploma or GED or combination of education and relevant experience. **Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required** + Exceptional customer service skills. Job Summary:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides unarmed uniformed security/safety related services. The services performed support the department's mission to provide high quality service and to protect persons and property from harm. May also perform duties of bicycle patrol officer.

What you will do:

  • Patrols assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle according to established schedule and investigates unusual occurrences.
  • Reports incidents or apparent potential loss of Hospital, employee, patient or visitor property through fire, theft or vandalism and if necessary, involve police and provide assistance during police investigation.
  • Responds to all service calls in a timely, safe, professional and courteous manner.
  • Welcomes our customers to the Hospital. Provides timely and accurate directions to patients and visitors to insure they understand how to get to any location on Hospital Grounds. Whenever possible, help individual(s) with escort to their destination.
  • Directs vehicle traffic in and around hospital facilities to prevent congestion. Ensures areas such as loading docks and ambulance unloading zones are cleared of unauthorized vehicles at all times. Issues parking citations to improperly parked vehicles and maintains record of citations.
  • Following established procedures, physically restrains unruly patients and/or visitors and individuals posing a threat to themselves, visitors, hospital employees and/or property and if necessary, involves police in removing visitors and provides assistance including court testimony.
  • Administers appropriate control systems to protect patient and employee valuables and hospital equipment and supplies, and monitors handling of lost and found items.
  • Checks to ensure hospital doors and windows are securely locked and inspects equipment, alarms, fire extinguisher and other equipment to ensure same are properly working. Notifies appropriate personnel of problems, as necessary.
  • Investigates and documents thefts, accidents and other incidents in order to obtain related evidence necessary to determine individuals involved. Carefully prepares required documentation to insure neatness, accuracy and completeness.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one of year experience in a customer-focused service-based organization
  • Preferred Education and/or Experience:
  • Knowledge base developed through a minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement, military or private security
  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology
  • Required License and/or Certification:
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification Card is required within 90 days of start date in position
  • Current CPR certification issued either by American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of start date in position
  • A valid driver's license is required. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months of hire
  • Preferred License and/or Certification:
  • Attainment of certification by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) for their Basic Healthcare Security Officer training course within twelve months of start date in position.

The primary purpose of the Public Safety Supervisor position is to plan and supervise the daily activities of UTPD Public Safety Officers and Senior Public Safety Officers, to be the main contact and resolution point for building occupants in order to resolve security and safety issues, and to maintain and implement policies, procedures and operational plans for ensuring safety and security. Coordinate with Police personnel as necessary to maintain standards, effective communication, and continuous improvement processes for delivery of security services in their assigned area. Develop, train and evaluate personnel to meet professional standards and customer expectations. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, observe, report and facilitate the orderly response to and if necessary, evacuation of buildings and structures.

Leadership and Administration Provides leadership, supervision, training and professional development of public safety officers and senior public safety officers. Conducts annual and periodic performance reviews for assigned personnel and provides periodic compliance and performance reports to management. Serves as a front-line contact with clients and acts as the customer's advocate to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of security services.
Safety and Security Processes Provides technical expertise to resolve safety and security issues involving personnel and other institutional staff. Responds to calls for service and provides requested services in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures. Reviews processes and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency and makes recommendations on process improvements.
Access Control Meets and confers with law enforcement personnel and directly supports police initiatives in university buildings and on property whether through intelligence, surveillance or as a patrol activity to prevent crime, identify wanted persons, or to anticipate the opportunity for crime, disorder, or fires. Meets and confers with security and access control systems management to ensure he/she and the staff have a clear and thorough working knowledge of security devices and protocols. Ensures security devices are operating reliably and as intended, and that devices in failure are reported immediately when detected.
Other Duties as Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus.
