SUMMARY This position is responsible for performing structural analysis, engineering (civil) and drafting tasks related to cold formed steel framing in a fast paced and high volume, professional office environment.

The Project Engineer will work closely with technical support to provide professional and accurate information for our external and internal customers in a professional and timely manner. Additionally, the position will entail collaborating with the General Manager, Engineering Manager, Project Managers and Engineering Technicians, to employ the decided means throughout the design process, in order to provide a professional, accurate and complete shop drawing and calculation package.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PROCESS MANAGEMENT

  • Maintains relationship with ClarkDietrich's customers through courteous phone conversations with prompt customer service.

  • Increases the specification of ClarkDietrich through shop drawings and by providing technical information to customers.

  • Develops relationships with CDBS Account Representatives, Territory Managers and Regional Sales staff.

ENGINEERING DESIGN

  • Read and accurately interpret drawings.

  • Notify Project Manager of any scheduling conflicts.

  • Produce a CAD/BIM production detail drawing package of cold-formed steel structures including fully detailed curtain wall and load bearing plan views, section views 3D, isometric and other structural details.

  • Produce the design of cold-formed steel structures including curtain and load bearing wall, lateral bracing and/or stability analysis and truss designs.

  • Produce calculations in a logical, reviewable and presentable format for internal review/approval and submission to the client.

  • Perform structural calculations using analysis programs or manual methods as necessary to complete the calculations.

  • Collaborate with team members to accurately complete engineering tasks in a timely manner.

  • Ensure project drawings and calculations are reviewed and approved by the Project Manager, Engineering Manager or General Manager.

  • Increase the specification of ClarkDietrich through shop drawings and provide technical information to clients.

  • Independently make decisions on type of methods to employ in structural design to effectively protect the safety, health and welfare of the public.

  • Provide assistance to General Manager, Engineering Managers and Project Managers to resolve project challenges and deadlines to the satisfaction of the client.

OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage daily office and engineering duties through tools utilized by management.

  • Maintain a clean office environment.

  • Cooperatively work with all team members.

  • Participate and engage in office meetings and discussions.

  • Support technical services by answering engineering design related questions, and completing drawings or calculations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ENGINEERING TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • A thorough knowledge of structural engineering and a formal education in building design is preferred.

  • Flexibility in design with ability to solve problems with various approaches.

  • Ability to perform engineering duties using a computer and computer analysis.

  • A working knowledge of structural building components, including CAD-related experience in structural building application is required.

  • Formal education in framing standards, familiarity with, and understanding of framing installation methods, as well as the assembly of structural building components.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer software to perform analysis required. Includes expertise in AUTOCAD and Revit. Experience in BIM a Plus.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a structural design engineer, the candidate will be responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and design engineering deliverables. Design engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.

This position will require technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering. The structural engineer will provide self performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, oversight of outside engineering firms, and machine installations. The structural engineer must be proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber), structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings). Must be familiar with consensus design codes. CAD drafting experience not required but preferred, along with any 3D modelling experience. Structural modelling experience with STAAD.Pro also preferred.

The candidate must have ability to plan, self-perform, and/or direct all engineering design team activities on a project which include, but are not limited to, development of detailed project scope, design time-lines, functions and requirements, design basis and criteria, design schedule and tracking, project engineering budget, calculations, research, design review, inter-discipline design coordination, design approval, design change control, specifications, approval of contractor technical and material submittals, and field verification of construction compliance to design.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• BS in Electrical Engineering with minimum 3.0 GPA, OR
• MS in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3.3 GPA, OR
• PhD in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3.5 GPA, OR

  • Coordinate with internal sales, production, and project teams to ensure buildability and code compliance
  • Review specifications, project plans, and codes for accuracy and alignment
  • Interface with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders on custom timber solutions
Your Background:
  • EIT or PE license preferred (or ability to obtain PE in near term)
  • Bachelor’s in civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience in structural timber or interest in engineered wood design
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and structural analysis tools (RISA, SAP2000, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills and an interest in custom, hands-on work

The Role

Our Restoration Division focuses on the design of repairs, renovations, and alterations of existing structures and oversee their execution in the field. We perform condition assessments, investigations, feasibility studies, and peer reviews.

SUMMARY : We have an immediate opportunity for Structural Design Engineer/Project Manager in our Miami, FL location. We are looking for a candidate with experience in structural design, structural repair, renovation, retrofit design, demolition, and/or property loss consulting. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Completing structural analysis and repair rehabilitation design of concrete, steel, timber, masonry, and other structural systems.
  • Coordination of design work with in-house staff as well as other consultants including Architects and other Engineering disciplines.
  • Communicate with clients to understand project requirements.
  • Most projects will be in structural repair, renovation, demolition, and expansion of existing structures.
  • Safely and effectively perform site visits independently to support field assessment activities as required for project needs and evaluate existing field conditions.
  • Production of structural drawings, calculations, and reports as required for the design of concrete, masonry, and steel/aluminum structures.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage own workflows.
  • Effective organization and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with other team members, Owners/Clients, Consultants, Vendors and Contractors.
  • Self-motivated and interested in career advancement.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and schedules.

  • Experience with structural analysis software such as CSI products (SAP2000, ETABS), Risa3D, Enercalc, RAM Steel, Mathcad, MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with BIM/drafting software, such as Revit and AutoCAD .

Licenses & Certifications

  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license .
  • Valid United States Driver’s License required, as this position requires travel to and from client sites.

Skills

  • Candidate must possess knowledge or be familiar with the Florida Building Code, Design Standards, and a fair degree of experience in design and structural plan nomenclature of construction systems in South Florida of reinforced concrete/masonry, structural steel, and lumber.

Estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $180,000. The salary listed is an estimate and not guaranteed. The salary offered will vary based on experience, education, skills, abilities, and certifications/license if applicable
