Position Summary
This position will manage student affairs, admission related and recruitment activities, and the research project for the Masters in Medical Biotechnology program. This position develops and implements student affairs programs ensuring that students are provided information and given access to university resources and programs to assist them in being successful during their educational program.

Under the direction of an Advising Unit Coordinator and as part of the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (CNAS UAAC), this position will be responsible for academic advising of undergraduate students in the Life Science majors (Biochemistry, Biology, Plant Biology, Neuroscience, Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology, Entomology, and Microbiology) or Physical Science (Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Physics) majors using the principles of developmental, academic advising and knowledge of teaching and learning theory working to promote student development and academic success. The primary areas of responsibility include: advisement of potential and enrolled students; monitoring of each student's progress toward degree completion; informing students, academic advisors, faculty and staff members of the policies and procedures pertaining to undergraduate student affairs; referring students to appropriate support services; analyzing academic trends and working with other professional academic advisors and departments to meet student advising needs. Participates in the preparation and/or maintenance of descriptive materials for majors. Responsible for preparation and submission of catalog copy and quarterly Schedule of Classes. Facilitates processes for undergraduate course revision and program changes. Responsible for representing the CNAS UAAC at outreach and retention activities, including recruitment, orientation, and advising events including, but not limited to Highlander Orientation, Academic Success Workshops, Discover/Welcome Days, and college fairs. The full salary range for the Student Academic Advisor 2 is $25.43 - $2.96 hourly rate. However, the expected hiring range for this position is 25.43 - 31.25 hourly rate. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

SUMMARY
The Graduate Student Academic Advisor is a key position within the College of Science, focused on the direct support and success of graduate students in College of Science programs.
Specifically, this position provides specialized support to Master's students in the College of Science, offering them guidance on their academic progress and advising on relevant policies, procedures, and other relevant topics as needed.
The Graduate Student Academic Advisor will be well-versed in university, college, and department policies and procedures as they relate to graduate students. This position is a critical part of supporting the graduate student population of the College, and serves as a de facto mentor and leader within the graduate administration team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Advising:
- Provide overall guidance to professional science graduate students on their academic progress towards goals.
- Interpret and explain relevant academic policies to students. Monitor student progress towards graduation and work with department/program to proactively address issues. Advise students, approve, and track leave of absences and withdrawal requests.
- Advise students on other academic issues as needed; connect them with appropriate resources in instances of personal issues or grievances.
- Assist students with all aspects of course registration, including course overrides, cross-program and cross-college course registration, and late registrations. Explain course registration requirements to students as needed.
- Serve as academic Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) contact for the Office of Global Services (OGS) as pertains to College of Science students and visitors.
- Manage the administrative processing of issuing and writing enrollment, international, and commencement verification letters.
- Collaborating with Director and other staff, design and deliver programs to better support incoming and current students in their coursework, including but not limited to workshops, newsletters, webinars, and other regular events that add value to the graduate student experience.
- Participate in and contribute to the content and delivery of new student orientation.
- Coordinate with appropriate faculty and staff at network campuses to better support the unique needs of online and regional campus students and implement policies and procedures accordingly.
- Stay abreast of research and effective practices in academic and student affairs to propose ideas to better serve students.
- Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student meeting, email, and phone conversation as pertaining to academic progress. Communicate as needed with appropriate department and/or faculty.
- Document and disseminate curriculum exceptions.
- Manage graduation clearance for students.
- Assist with the data updates and related data maintenance in College and University systems of record, such as degree audit and Student SharePoint site.
- Create and update advising processes and policies.
- Provide student enrollment data upon request.
- Provide special support as directed for new program setup, special events, or other duties related to the general scope of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in higher education or sciences, including math, required. Two years or more of experience working in a higher education, nonprofit, or related professional environment required.
Strong organizational, case-management skills required. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to work with enterprise-level databases and proactively manage tasks across a variety of systems required.

Expected Hiring Range:
$52,820.00 - $74,607.50
