Provides short term school-based individual and group prevention services to youth who present with risk factors to substance misuse. Helps youth served learn and practice coping skills, increase connections to community/school resources and improve the quality of their support network. Will complete all necessary outcome tools and collect data as needed to comply with expectations of program contract through BSAS.
**Responsibilities:**
+ School Counseling: Under supervision of the Senior Case Manager, provides preventative individual and/or group support to students; coordinates closely with school support staff, faculty, and administration to deliver services; collaborates with parents/caregivers; assesses academic and family needs; provides referrals to support services in school and to community providers as needed; provides triage support as needed.
+ Prevention Education: facilitates prevention education activities via classroom presentations, assemblies, campaigns, etc. that address youth substance abuse, suicide prevention and other topics related to mental health.
+ Community Based Services: assists in the planning and facilitation of prosocial student and family events based around recreational activities, crafts, excursions. Available at least one evening per week and occasional weekends to provide services or facilitate events in outreach settings including family homes or community locations. Available to transport students as needed.
+ Administration: attendance at minimum weekly 1:1 supervision and other supervision/meetings as requested; checks agency email daily and available by telephone during school hours daily; keeps essential program tracking logs up to date; submits required paperwork as scheduled and requested; regularly submits and tracks outcomes measurements; conducts satisfaction surveys as needed.
+ Public Representation: serves as a representative for the division, program, and stakeholders through the following venues as assigned; community and school health fairs, focus groups, coalitions, and other special initiatives to increase advocacy for attention to youth substance abuse and/or promote the program and stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Plans and implement prevention activities for students, upon request; provides case management, educational and consultative services within each assigned school pertaining to substance abuse-related issues as a member of the Unified Mental Health Team.
- Provides training, facilitation and consultation for the PEER Helper program and the In-School Restriction Tobacco Education Program in assigned schools; assists with program development and evaluation; develops and maintain working relationships with parents, faculty, and administration and community agencies. Provides support for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Conducts substance abuse and prevention awareness presentations within classroom and community settings; may serve on community committees addressing substance abuse, bullying and domestic violence prevention.

- Provides professional development to LCPS focused on a variety of mental health and substance use topics.

Wilkes University invites applicants for part time positions in the SHINE afterschool program for 2024-2025 school year. Luzerne County SHINE is a nationally recognized program that provides hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) instructional activities to students in 1st through 8th grade in six local school districts. You can learn more about the program by SHINE is currently seeking the following professionals to join our team:Lead Teachers - Oversee staff/curriculum and maintain student records. Communicate with families and school administration. Responsible for students well-being under their charge during program hours. Bachelor's Degree and current Pennsylvania Teacher certification required.Teachers - Support the lead teacher, assist with curriculum development and student management. Bachelor's Degree and current Pennsylvania Teacher certification required. Educational Support Staff - Assist teacher in planning and carrying out lessons. Desire to work in or experience in an educational setting is a plus. No Teaching certificate required. Bachelor's Degree in related field required. Substitute Teachers - Bachelor's Degree and current Pennsylvania Teacher certification required. Teacher Assistants/Paraprofessionals - Assist with classroom management, activities, food service, and have the opportunity to assist with project development.
