**The Challenge:**
+ Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Atlanta Georgia protection and control, substation physical, CAD, and SCADA teams: in charge of employee engagement, performance reviews, salary negotiations, interviewing/hiring, work quality, budgets and schedules, mentorship and growth, project execution, client interaction, and business expansion.
+ Prepare and review proposals and man-hour estimates, technical write-ups and project approach documents for small, medium and large projects and Master Service Agreements (MSAs).
+ Build meaningful relationships with our robust list of long-standing clients. Function as client Point of Contact (P.O.C.) and liaison with clients on project-related issues. 
+ Provide technical training and mentorship to junior staff.
+ Understand and apply industry standards, applicable state and federal safety codes, regulatory compliance requirements and construction codes to projects.
+ Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams.
+ Ensure and facilitate project team collaboration and communication across all disciplines and resolve design conflicts as required. 
+ Collaborate with our internal team of talent acquisition (TA), human resources (HR), and financial team members to maintain alignment with the Division's objectives.
**What you will bring to the table:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university, with ten plus (10+) years of relevant experience in utility substation/P&C engineering
+ Experience as a substation/P&C engineer leading projects and performing QC reviews

**Primary Responsibilities**
+ Support capital execution of projects as it relates to Substation design, materials, equipment. Lead the development of processes focusing on operations and engineering practices that drive strong reliability and performance.
+ Lead the Substation project team towards establishment of technical qualifications and policies. Review the specifications of the equipment and ensure the equipment design are as per the Dominion requirement.
+ Coordinate with different stakeholders and provide direct input to substation project plans. Collaborate with responsible groups and facilitate smooth transition of the design to implementation.
+ Develop design requirements relating to the application of equipment in substations. Assist with interpretation and communication of company policies and procedures to internal stakeholders and external project support partners.
+ Provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. Develop trainings for engineers/partner groups and assist less experienced colleagues in planning, conceptual/detail engineering, and the field.
+ Engage with manufacturers and suppliers (plant/factory visits, project site visits) and represent Substation Engineering department on new equipment and vendor evaluations.
+ Engage in industry forums, and events (IEEE, SEE, CIGRE, etc.). Support the project team at state and county commissions hearings and community open houses.
+ Facilitate Substation equipment specification and drawings review, co-ordinate with manufacturers and vendors to make sure they adhere to the company requirements.
+ Review existing materials, components, and design standards for process improvements, cost savings, etc. Perform independent and/or collaborative research to find innovative and cost-effective engineering solution to operational problems.
+ Serve as a management consultant on complex engineering problems and issues. Control technical, financial, and service commitments to internal and external customers.
**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience**
+ Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience (Utility Substations applications) or demonstrated equivalent.
+ Thorough understanding and knowledge of substation components and their functions
+ Firm understanding of the substation design principles and practices for major substation equipment, transmission lines and distribution feeder configurations
+ In depth knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes, concepts, and their application
+ Ability to read, interpret, and modify one-line diagrams, Substation plan and elevation drawings
+ Some drafting experience preferred. Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation is a plus
+ Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems

Overview
Directs, coordinates, and supervises the daily activities of PPL substation engineers, internal, and external contract engineering resources performing substation and relay design. Direct report assignments include large, complex substation design projects. Accountable for direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, safety leadership and technical guidance to assigned staff in support of producing high quality, timely and cost-effective solutions to technical and business objectives. This Engineer will perform engineering assignments in support of electric substation construction projects for Transmission and Distribution. Duties include developing requirements defining the concept, scope, need and engineering & design aspects of substation projects, supporting the preparation of project cost estimates and schedules, supporting the preparation of capital project budget and authorization documents, and conducting engineering studies involving substation equipment and materials. The selected candidate must possess the ability to organize engineering projects, work to a schedule andfollow-to-completion,communicate with others effectively to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering and design team for substation projects, and use computers effectively.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Fills the role of project engineer providing electrical discipline leadership, including interdisciplinary coordination, and scheduling of engineering activities. Collaborates with other Engineering disciplines to ensure consistency and teamwork.
+ Acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures on complex projects. Ability to prioritize project work for several projects occurring concurrently under budget and time constraints.
+ Responsible for the development and approval of project scopes, engineering designs, details, material ordering, and cost estimates, as necessary.
+ Responsible for hiring contract engineering firms and monitoring progress and performance (Development of engineering scope of work, review of submittals, and approval of invoices).
+ Collaborates with other Engineers within the department to ensure consistency and teamwork including working closely with the Design and Drafting group to prepare, review and issue engineering drawings in support of projects.
+ Collaborates with other departments such as System Planning, Distributed Energy Resources, Asset Management, Project Management, Project Scheduling, Siting and Permitting, and Plant Accounting, to support project planning, technical and financial approvals, scheduling, regulatory submittals and interrogatories, and project closeout.
+ Develop expertise as a Subject Matter Expert for one or more substation equipment categories which will require development and update of standard specifications, review of maintenance practices, participation in equipment failure analysis, and other duties which require in depth knowledge of the equipment.
+ Responsible for the development and update of equipment specifications, participation in equipment RFP process, and review/approval of manufacturers' drawings and documentation.
**Qualifications:**
_Education:_
+ A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
_Experience_ :
+ A minimum of three (3) years of Substation Engineering, Power Systems, or related electric utility experience is required.
+ Familiarity with substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, reclosers, capacitor banks and associated controls, instrument transformers, reactors, switches, and batteries are desired.
_Licenses & Certifications:_
+ Individual must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
