Job Summary: Under the immediate supervision of a Production Supervisor, the laborer performs a variety of manual labor tasks in the mine and/or surface operations; many job assignments with emphasis on heavy equipment and reclamation duties as assigned. This person will perform all assigned process specifications and instructions safely and competently. The individual will report any malfunctions or abnormalities to their supervisor; ensuring that the machinery and safety equipment are in good working order and a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in their workplace. SAP input will be required for surface Labor jobs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of manual labor tasks such as shoveling salt, cleaning floors, and assisting operators of all kinds on the various operations - start and stop, grease, and clean belt conveyors and crushers.
- Operate the fork truck and support equipment, requiring the employee to use the fork truck to deliver supplies and ANFO to the working areas.
- Perform routine cleanup of required areas including cleaning salt spillage under conveyor belts and along walkways.
- Assist loading a bench and development rounds with explosives.
- Assist equipment operators in hanging cables, curtains, or other support equipment.
- Identify hazards, unsafe actions, and conditions that could result in damage to property, injury, and/or impacts to the environment and community.
- Assist workers of higher classification in performing their tasks. This includes assisting mechanics in major repairs and perform minor maintenance.
- Comply and assist in the promotion and implementation of the companys policies and procedures, including safety.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain an appropriate blasting license during the probationary period and maintain license during employment.
- Must be 21 years of age (minimum age to be able to get a blasters license).
- Previous experience driving a forklift preferred; must have good eye-hand coordination to properly manipulate the respective hand controls.
- High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote safe workplace.
- Must be able to work in an environment that is exposed to dust, dirt, and fumes from blasting and equipment, as well as variation in noise, temperature, and equipment vibration due to uneven and sloping floors.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to wear all PPE, including steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary.
- Must be able to work at heights as needed.

**Be part of the nation's only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.**
Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a **_Surface Electrician_** and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
This is a USW bargaining unit position. This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.
**Responsibilities**
The successful candidate will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment, mobile equipment, and power distribution systems up to 13,800 volts. The candidate is required to attain and maintain the qualifications/training necessary to perform their job scope and conduct frequent inspections of work area to ensure safe working conditions. The candidate must be able to follow written work instructions and adhere company safety policies in addition to pass a Pulmonary Function Test to be able to wear a respirator. This position is intended to support surface mining and/or underground mining electrical activities at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

Shift Available: 2nd
Compensation: $34.01/hr in the first 90 days, then $37.01/hr after the 90 days
A Typical Work Day May Include:
Completing preventative, predictive, and reactive industrial maintenance throughout the facility
Documenting all completed work and the conditions found; utilizing maintenance computer software as necessary
Installing, maintaining, testing, evaluating, and repairing various components and systems including heavy mobile equipment, hydraulic systems, 12 & 24V mobile electrical systems, belt conveyors, gear reducers, and bearings
Operating standard maintenance tools such as power tools, basic hand tools, pneumatic tools, electric tools, etc.
Comprehending mechanical/electrical schematics, blueprints, and/or operation manuals
Operating forklifts
Understanding and adhering to all safety policies and procedures
Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
Ability to repair equipment in close proximity to explosives
Other duties as assigned
What You Will Need:
Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Must be 18 years or older
Basic computer skills
Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)
Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs., kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
Minimum of one year of experience with industrial electrical knowledge and mechanical maintenance trades
Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice
Ability and willingness to work underground in a mining environment
Must receive a passing score on a Standardized Ramsay Test in order to be selected for an interview
What Will Put You Ahead:
Must possess journeyman certificate, a state certificate, or a degree in the field of electrical with experience repairing and troubleshooting electrical systems
Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (CMRT) or willing to acquire certification
Heavy equipment/industrial maintenance technical diploma from a trade school, or 3 years equivalent experience
Predictive Maintenance and/or Precision Maintenance Certifications
High school diploma/GED or a minimum of two years equivalent work experience
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining various components and systems such as but not limited to packaging equipment, hydraulic & pneumatic systems, belt or roller conveyors, pumps, gear reducers, or bearings
