About The Role
Manages surgical program including daily workflow, personnel assignments, training, equipment, and supplies. Performs selected surgical procedures that require advanced expertise/experience. Facilitates all aspects of surgery and surgical support functions according to SOPs and GLP. Supports study supervisor(s) and study director(s) by performing and assisting with surgical procedure coordination and execution on research studies.

- Follow, perform, and develop SOP's and protocols for surgery and surgical support of study and stock animals

What you will do:
The Sr. Surgical Specialist will provide surgical training expertise for clinical investigative sites, customers, and the company. Responsible for the delivery of high quality surgical training, surgical support and surgical outcomes for pre-market devices under study protocols, through involvement in surgical training processes and materials development, the direct delivery of surgical training and support, and train-the-trainer leadership for the RBM and CRM teams. Also supports commercial product surgical training by providing train-the-trainer activities.
DIRECT DELIVERY OF SURGICAL TRAINING AND SUPPORT
- Assures first in class surgical outcomes through the provision of surgical training, mentoring and support to investigative sites, customers, and internal personnel.
- Provide on-site surgical training and support for study surgeons on the implantation and use of investigational product.
- Conduct didactic, dry lab, wet lab, and in human surgical training for initial training and refresher training.
- Assess surgical competencies of surgeons and make determinations as to when the surgeon is deemed "trained" and may be handed to the CRM or RBM for ongoing surgical support or surgical observation.

The Tissue Recovery Surgical Specialist is responsible for the sterile surgical recovery of clinical and research tissues, organs, and samples. They perform all aspects of donor identification, assessment, and surgical preparation, as well as the post-recovery reconstruction and operative site restoration. They work collaboratively with other team members to ensure accurate, quality, and efficient outcomes of the surgical processes ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and industry standards and regulations. They are responsible for maintaining their surgical recovery skills and will participate in training others.
Important: This role requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. for the duration of the shift; as well as wear personal protective equipment to include surgical gowns, masks, visors or goggles, and caps.
This role is critical to the LifeNet Health mission because it is an important step in taking the donors gifts and transitioning them to lifesaving and health restoring allografts for patients around the globe.
What youll do:
- Preoperative & Postoperative Duties: Able to perform all duties and responsibilities of the Tissue Recovery Surgical Technician. Prepares recovery related supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for the authorized donation event. Evaluates recovery site suitability and ensures all pre- and post-recovery cleaning, set-up, and break-down events are performed according to site requirements and established company policies and procedures. Participates in the time out donor identification and authorization verification processes. Collects required testing samples prior to and during recovery, ensuring proper labeling of the collected samples. Assists with the completion and documentation of the donor Physical Assessment. Responsible for the post-operative donor care, including reconstruction, body identification, managing personal property, and preparation for transport. May participate in minimal charting.
- Tissue Recovery: Performs the donor body positioning, surgical preparation, and sterile recovery field draping prior to recovery and as the recovery event progresses. Perform sterile hand preparation (scrub) and don aseptic gown and gloves. Performs the surgical recovery of tissues for transplant, whole organs and basic tissues for research, and associated samples for testing purposes. May function as a Trainer/Preceptor during tissue recovery cases for learners initiating their dissection training.
- Post-Recovery and Support: Responsible for the preparation of recovered tissues and samples for shipment to the various processing and quarantine storage locations and environments. Responsible for supply, equipment, and instrument inventory, including rotation, count, ordering, receiving, and inspection. Assists with maintaining the Tissue Recovery dedicated spaces, including inspection, cleaning, organizing, and documentation. Assists with maintaining tissue, organ, and sample inventory, control, monitoring, and documentation. Assists with managing the fleet vehicles as assigned.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement: Ensures quality outcomes of all work performed. Assists with the monitoring, development, and reporting of KPI and departmental metrics. Assists with completion of the Zone Assessment Guide and other audit readiness activities. Participates in departmental and organizational LEAN projects and initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Cardiac Surgical Specialist provides assistance to the primary surgeon during a surgical procedure. The incumbent provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The Cardiac Surgical Specialist performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS1. Positions the patient to give the best exposure for the surgical procedure considering the patients comfort and safety. The patient shall be evaluated for any possible damage from positioning which will include assessment of the skin. The abnormal condition shall be reported to the surgeon and treatment and documentation shall be carried out.2. Provides visualization of the operative site using proper techniques.3. Utilizes appropriate techniques, permanent and temporary, to assist with hemostasis:4. Participates in volume replacement or auto-transfusion techniques as appropriate.5. Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes.6. Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.7. Provides assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue.8. Performs other duties as required.9. Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate for this position.10. - Provides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
- Partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.
- Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.
- Prepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.
- Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.
- Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.
- May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions.
- Provides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.
- Adheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.
- Upholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description.
- Collaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care.
- Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.
