**Job Summary**
Responsible for assisting in tasks involving patient care and maintenance of the operating room. The primary focus is to help with set-up and efficient turnover of the operating rooms and caring for the instruments and equipment to be used during the surgical procedure.
**Essential Functions**
+ Assist in pulling instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. Set up equipment for surgical procedure.
+ Order and restock inventory and supplies for department. Stock and put supplies away in individual operating rooms.
+ Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
+ Provide assistance with moving and lifting patients. Transport patients.
+ Transport specimens to appropriate area/unit.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**

+ Preferred: Previous experience with sterile/aseptic techniques and

In the operating room, provides basic indirect patient care in support of a large multispecialty quaternary operating room as delegated. Providing clean, well stocked surgical suite, with case carts and appropriate equipment for the room. Supports the operating room staff in lifting, positioning, transporting patients. Job Title: Surgical Support Assistant
Entity: Lancaster General Hospital
Location: 555 N Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602
Hours: 1.0 FTE (40 Hours per week), 11:00AM-7:30PM| Occasional On-Call, Weekends, and Holidays
Position Summary:
+ Assists with the delivery of patient care in accordance with established methods and procedures, under the supervision and guidance of the RN. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal (birth to stabilization), pediatric (infant to 12 years), adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 64 years), and geriatric (over 64 years).
Responsibilities:
+ Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties:
+ Prepare the correct surgical bed with linens, retrieve equipment, assist with opening sterile supplies, and check surgical lights and replace bulbs as needed.
+ Assist with prep and patient positioning using proper body mechanics.
+ Assist with the placement and hook-up of OR equipment.
+ Assist scrub team with sterile supplies Tying the backs of the scrub gowns, etc. .
+ Ensure appropriate equipment is obtained prior to and during procedures.
+ Transport specimens as requested and ensures bed stretcher is ready for patient at the end of surgery.
+ Assist with lifting or transferring patient from the OR bed to stretcher for transport.
+ Clean all flat surfaces and changes out used anesthesia circuit and suction tubing.
+ Mop floors, removes and delivers trash to appropriate area.
+ Remove surgical equipment and return to appropriate storage.
+ Transport patients, if needed.
+ Re-stock Operating Rooms, return equipment and supplies to the appropriate areas and report the status of the Operating Rooms to the next shift.
+ Routinely performs necessary housekeeping independently within assigned area of department.
+ Observe and report unusual situations, reactions, effects, or conditions to responsible person.
+ Report and tag equipment that is out of order.
+ Understand and follow universal protocol and the parameters of the sterile field and traffic flow for the Operating Room.
Credentials:
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
+ One (1) year of experience as a hospital patient care assistant (Preferred)

**Responsibilities:**
+ Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies.
+ Suggest and support change within the department/organization. Perform patient care skills working with preceptor (RN) in a safe manner according to policy and procedure.

+ Demonstrate awareness of the impact of his/her behavior on the efficient functioning of the department/organization.
+ Seek out appropriate nursing, physician or other health care team intervention.

+ Maintain an environment conducive to patient safety and recovery including but not limited to: completing safety checks, keeping the department and OR rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment.
+ Assist with patient positioning under the supervision of an RN.
+ Assist with transporting specimens to the lab.
+ Assist with opening supplies and equipment to establish a sterile field.

+ Ensure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
+ Identify need and/or provide patient/family education.

+ High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience, preferably within a customer service or healthcare role.
+ -OR-Enrollment in any healthcare training program that requires clinical rotations with at least 1 clinical rotation completed.
+ Microcomputer experience preferred.
+ Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
