PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Facilities Operations, the Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for organizing and promoting sustainability efforts, collecting and analyzing sustainability report data, and supporting and supervising student interns and organizations at Scripps College.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Compile, refine, and publish the Annual Sustainability Report.
- Hire and supervise student interns. Propose new student internships as needed.
- Manage the operating budget for the Office of Sustainability and develop budget requests as needed.
- Collect and analyze emissions data for greenhouse gas inventory.
- Serve as a chair of the Sustainability Committee, including scheduling, leading meetings, ensuring meeting minutes are recorded, and organizing subcommittees as needed.
- Participate in the Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) and collaborate on identifying opportunities for strategic energy efficiency projects.
- Maintain the sustainability website and social media accounts, updating with events, news, announcements, and resources.
- Manage public events, such as the annual Sustainability Fair and Scripps Scrapps, Sustainability Tea, PowerDown Challenge, and other special events.
- Provide expertise to and collaborate with the Director of Facilities, Maintenance Manager, and Facilities Systems Coordinator with energy utilization surveys of use and cost and collaboration and co-supervision with the Maintenance Manager of utility management software.
- Coordinate with the Landscape Operations Manager to conduct the annual harvest and sales of Scripps College Olive Oil, including community outreach, marketing, inventory, accounting, and production.
- Serve as an advisor to student groups under the supervision of the Director of Facilities.
- Promote collaboration with consortium partners and attend bimonthly meetings. Engage in cross-campus encouragement of sustainability practices.
- Assist Director of Facilities in collaborating with Institutional Advancement in pursuit of governmental and private grants and donor funding for sustainability research and projects. Participate in the grant proposal process and coordinate with pre- and post-award sponsored research processes.
- Facilitate other sustainability programs initiated by student, faculty, and staff as deemed appropriate by Business Affairs.
- Build community partnerships in and around Claremont to promote Scripps College sustainability.
- Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, provide advisement to Business Affairs on sustainability best practices within the higher education environment.
- Support LEED building projects through updating the community on ongoing LEED projects. Work in a collaborative team environment with other staff teams and departments including Facilities, Dining Services, Office of Student Engagement, and Residential Life to promote a sustainable and cost-effective approach to operational management.
- Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Familiarity with greenhouse gas reporting and carbon neutrality planning.
- Ability to collect data and analyze data from disparate sources. Ability to organize data and work with sometimes missing or incomplete data.
- Capable of directly supervising and working with college students.
- Experience with giving presentations and facilitating meetings.
- Ability to compose high-quality written communications, correspondence, grant applications, reports, and other documents with an attention to detail.
- Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Zoom.
- Familiar with or able to learn data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau.
- Must be able to plan and manage large public events.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills to work effectively with diverse and multiple constituencies.
- Ability to be proactive and work independently, as well as collaboratively.
- Must be efficient in prioritizing work on simultaneous projects with an ability to meet deadlines.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS :
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.
At least 2 years of experience with previous project coordination responsibilities is preferred. Previous experience in a community-based environment project is a plus.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular status, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.
The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department and may include some weekends.
Hourly rate range: $22-$24.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Verdani Partners is looking for a sustainability coordinator who will assist our client account leads with implementing corporate sustainability programs and policies for each of our clients. They will directly help our teams in implementing policies in organizations with diversified, national, and international portfolios of buildings. This full-time position will begin with an intense 3-6 month training period. Preference will be given to candidates willing to work from our office in Carlsbad. Preference will also be given to candidates that have some educational training and experience with commercial real estate and/or corporate sustainability.
This applicant would coordinate directly with clients; therefore, they must also have superior communication, writing, and presentation skills. This is an entry-level position that will require a training course, which Verdani Partners will be providing.

This role involves supporting the implementation and monitoring of sustainability policies within the company. The Zero Waste/ Sustainability Coordinator will also contribute to our sustainability mission by conducting research across various topics and performing the following key duties:
Key Job Functions:
- Maintaining recycling-related records and prepare periodic reports about the volume and type of recycling activity.
- Tracking waste-related data and complete the TRUE Zero Application.
- Monitoring and recording donations made from each facility.
- Performing/overseeing hands-on waste stream audits at each facility to categorize, measure, and analyze materials retrieved from the company's solid waste bins.
- Acting as the main contact for recyclers in all facilities.
- Expanding supplier take-back program by identifying reusable items and coordinating with suppliers.
- Identifying outlets and recyclers for special and miscellaneous items to ensure proper disposal and recycling practices.
- Maintaining records of miscellaneous item disposal across facilities to support a diversion rate of over 95%.
- Working closely with operations to calculate waste amounts, costs, potential outlets, and associated expenses for waste materials generated during operations, such as PVA byproducts.
- Collaborating closely with recycling technicians at all four facilities, traveling to each facility at least once a year.
- Conducting internal sustainability audits within all four divisions at least once per year and submits report to Director of Sustainability.
- Working closely with production team members to ensure adherence to sustainability procedures.
- Acting as the main contact for utility companies, and EV charger companies. •Assist in industry initiatives and collection of sustainability-related data as needed.
- Developing internal communication to reinforce sustainability programs and policies. •Create signage and educational materials for recycling practices and sustainable policies. •Coordinate museum partnerships and sponsorships, fostering strong relationships and promoting sustainability initiatives.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

We have an immediate opening for a dedicated Zero Waste/Sustainability Coordinator to join our team here at ECOS. This role involves supporting the implementation and monitoring of sustainability policies within the company. The Zero Waste/ Sustainability Coordinator will also contribute to our sustainability mission by conducting research across various topics and performing the following key duties:
Key Job Functions:
- Maintaining recycling-related records and prepare periodic reports about the volume and type of recycling activity.
- Tracking waste-related data and complete the TRUE Zero Application.
- Monitoring and recording donations made from each facility.
- Performing/overseeing hands-on waste stream audits at each facility to categorize, measure, and analyze materials retrieved from the company’s solid waste bins.
- Acting as the main contact for recyclers in all facilities.
- Expanding supplier take-back program by identifying reusable items and coordinating with suppliers.
- Identifying outlets and recyclers for special and miscellaneous items to ensure proper disposal and recycling practices.
- Maintaining records of miscellaneous item disposal across facilities to support a diversion rate of over 95%.
- Working closely with operations to calculate waste amounts, costs, potential outlets, and associated expenses for waste materials generated during operations, such as PVA byproducts.
- Collaborating closely with recycling technicians at all four facilities, traveling to each facility at least once a year.
- Conducting internal sustainability audits within all four divisions at least once per year and submits report to Director of Sustainability.
- Working closely with production team members to ensure adherence to sustainability procedures.
- Acting as the main contact for utility companies, and EV charger companies. · Assist in industry initiatives and collection of sustainability-related data as needed.
- Developing internal communication to reinforce sustainability programs and policies. · Create signage and educational materials for recycling practices and sustainable policies. · Coordinate museum partnerships and sponsorships, fostering strong relationships and promoting sustainability initiatives.
- Handing additional special projects and duties as assigned.
In order to be successful, you will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or currently in the process of completing degree listed) in a Science or Sustainability related field; and/or 3 to 5 years of relevant experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills preferred
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments on time
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
