Project Kuiper is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. The System Development Engineer will implement test equipment hardware, network solutions, process control dashboards, and automation/analytics for systems used in the processing of satellite and dispenser hardware.
The System Development Engineer is a skilled individual contributor within the team, providing guidance on many aspects including but not limited to testing requirements, software management, assembly/integration work cell design within the payload processing facilities, facility and equipment planning, integration and test application implementation and improvement, process control, design for manufacturability, and project management.

Key job responsibilities

A day in the life
The System Development Engineer will spend significant amounts of time collaborating with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to develop test, networking, and automation solutions for satellite and dispenser processing. They will support the development, assembly, qualification/test, and deployment/maintenance of systems in multiple processing zones across multiple payload processing facilities and launch sites. They will support the space hardware product value streams, implementing engineering best practices in a safe and repeatable manner, implementing efficiency improvements and reducing non-conformances.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or software engineering
- 3+ years of experience with Electrical Ground Support Equipment development, test and daily usage

Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for collaborating with conveyance and sorter manufacturers and internal teams to develop ground up innovative controls solutions that enable Amazon's scale and performance within retrofits and greenfield projects. Define requirements and standards from individual work cells to large complex MHE integration across multiple vendors. Balance controls and software integration between internal and external stakeholders. Provide deployment and commissioning support to achieve system performance in live applications. Prepare specifications and technical detail to fully define function on equipment. Develop PLC and IPC control level programming in ladder logic, structured text, C++, or Python. Define or develop embedded controls solutions to natively communicate with IPCs. Follow and enforce industrial network security requirements. Provide detailed analysis and testing of existing and new engineering solutions and components. Work with IT, FC Software and Operations Engineering to support new MHE systems deployments. Participate in concept solutions engineering and firm engineering of solutions. Provide technical documentation such as flow diagrams, conveyor and equipment layouts, installation details, and integration specifications. Support emulation and simulation modeling of material handling systems. Support commissioning of new automation elements. Fully understand and ensure procedural adherence to industry operating standards such as the NEC and NFPA. In this role you will be a key member of the team providing the tools and systems needed to design, build, and operate the organization's services. You will own and operate infrastructure critical to Project Kuiper including engineering applications, AWS Cloud Infrastructure, and local servers. - Design build and maintain infrastructure as code for our hybrid-cloud Siemens engineering applications
- Monitor system performance, ensuring uptime, scalability, and reliability of applications and Infrastructure
