Tax Operations individuals are critical thinkers who partner with groups across the firm to ensure accurate tax withholding and reporting for the firm and our clients. ANALYST DUTIES
Reviewing and responding to client inquiries with accurate analysis based on the facts, regulatory requirements, and circumstances of the inquiry
Providing tax-related operational support to the firm s Investment Professionals; Client Service reps, and clients
Reviewing and solving position breaks and cost basis exceptions arising from inconsistencies with upstream data producers
Complex corporate actions analysis
Ensure data accuracy and integrity of regulatory tax filings
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required
Relevant work experience in Operations, Taxation, Accounting, Auditing, or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to understand complex workflows
Results orientated with the ability to balance time-sensitive projects while maintaining a longer term, strategic focus
Excellent communication skills with an ability to influence senior business stakeholders and make decisions
Strong attention to detail
Proactive and self-starting individual with high level of ownership
Questioning mindset with an ability to recognize potential risk and flag to managers

Stepan Co. is looking to hire a Financial Tax Analyst for our Northbrook, IL Headquarters location.
Job Responsibilities:
- Preparation of sales/use tax returns. This includes a detailed analysis of randomly selected invoices, manipulating SAP downloaded data, researching sales/use tax laws, and issuance of Direct Pay Permits & exemption certificates.
- Assist with preparation of federal/state income tax workpapers & returns. This includes preparing state apportionment work papers, permanent/temporary book/tax difference work papers, estimated tax payments & extensions.
- Preparation of personal property tax returns, excise tax returns & other business tax returns.
- Assist Tax Manager with government-initiated tax audits.
- Assist with the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision (ASC 740) calculations with a focus on certain international jurisdictions. This process includes the preparation of various foreign/domestic monthly, quarterly and year-end provision work papers, reconciling tax accounts, and analyzing the effective tax rate.
- 0-1 years of tax/accounting experience required
- Bachelors Degree required, Accounting preferred
- CPA certification preferred
