Job Description

The US Tax Controversy Associate Manager, will report to the Associate Director - U.S. Tax Controversy and support the end-to-end controversy cycle to resolve U.S. tax disputes favorably and efficiently. This position supports tax controversy matters with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state and local tax authorities (SALT). This individual will draft responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs), gather information from sources within the company, prepare analyses to support findings, perform tax research, and review tax filings. Experience with alternative methods of audits and dispute resolution such as the IRS Compliance Assurance Process (CAP), Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP), and Advanced Pricing Agreements (APAs) is a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support IRS and SALT tax audits and appeals, including the preparation of IDR responses, audit-related analyses, and other ad hoc items
  • Support the development of defensive positions, including reviewing and analyzing applicable law, preparing outlines for legal briefs, and reviewing drafts of briefs
  • Assist with the development of process improvements for responding to document requests and for communicating effectively with internal stakeholders and tax authorities
  • Assess and implement technology solutions to improve performance
  • Support the resolution of IRS and SALT notices from tax authorities
DESIRED OUTCOMES:
  • Establish credibility and build relationships across the organization
  • Develop or improve tax processes, policies and procedures to align with and support the scale and complexity of Accenture. Improve processes to drive greater efficiency through automation, leveraging technology
  • Identify, resolve and document tax positions and create procedures to drive value and efficiencies within the organization
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 4 years corporate tax experience with a minimum of 2 years of tax controversy/audit experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Federal and/or SALT tax controversy experience in a multinational company or professional services firm (preferred)
  • Exceptional analytical and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal and cross-team working skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting; either military or civilian
  • JD or CPA (preferred), MS/Tax


Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Accenture provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York or Washington as set forth below.

The US Tax Controversy Associate Manager, will report to the Associate Director - U.S. Tax Controversy and support the end-to-end controversy cycle to resolve U.S. tax disputes favorably and efficiently. This position supports tax controversy matters with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state and local tax authorities (SALT). This individual will draft responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs), gather information from sources within the company, prepare analyses to support findings, perform tax research, and review tax filings. Experience with alternative methods of audits and dispute resolution such as the IRS Compliance Assurance Process (CAP), Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP), and Advanced Pricing Agreements (APAs) is a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Support IRS and SALT tax audits and appeals, including the preparation of IDR responses, audit-related analyses, and other ad hoc items
+ Support the development of defensive positions, including reviewing and analyzing applicable law, preparing outlines for legal briefs, and reviewing drafts of briefs
+ Assist with the development of process improvements for responding to document requests and for communicating effectively with internal stakeholders and tax authorities
+ Assess and implement technology solutions to improve performance
+ Support the resolution of IRS and SALT notices from tax authorities

+ Establish credibility and build relationships across the organization
