Job Description
Purpose
The Director, Tax Accounting position is a key leadership position in the Corporate Tax organization. This position will have primary responsibilities for strategic and operational aspects of accounting for the global income tax provision under U.S. GAAP (ASC 740), including U.S. domestic tax, tax examinations, acquisition integration and planning. This requires managing tax risks related to income tax accounting and providing recommendations to senior management. This position will also have responsibility for assessing process and technology requirements and opportunities, providing improvement recommendations, and directing the implementation of process and technology solutions within their functions of responsibility. Close collaboration and partnering with other Tax functions (e.g., International Tax, Transfer Pricing, Tax Counsel) and functions outside of the Corporate Tax organization will be critical.
Responsibilities
+ Responsible for quarterly and annual income tax accounting under ASC 740 including current and deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions and the effective tax rate
+ Manages and review quarterly SOX documentation and compliance processes
+ Assists in managing outside tax advisors and supporting the independent audit of all income tax accounting and disclosures
+ Collaborates closely with other functions within the Corporate Tax organization and other functions within the AbbVie organization such as Corporate Accounting, FP&A, and Treasury
+ Directs the implementation of large-scale process and technology initiatives through strong project management as well as partnering with AbbVie stakeholders and outside advisors
+ Researches and analyzes complex tax issues, transactions, and law changes assessing the income tax accounting impact and communicate findings to senior management
+ Assists in managing and directing income tax accounting implications of tax and operational M&A transactions and integration initiatives
+ Effectively communicates with senior management, outside auditors, and other key stakeholders on global tax reporting issues and developments
+ Manages, directs, and provides technical advice along with mentoring and development to the Tax Accounting team.
Qualifications
+ Master of Science in Accounting/Tax CPA Certification required
+ Ability to perform complex and sophisticated tax analyses and recommends proposed courses of action to senior management
+ 12-15+ years of Tax experience in a Corporate 100 and or National Big Four Accounting Firm with strong technical skills in U.S. domestic tax and accounting for income taxes (ASC 740)
+ Ability to interface with senior management and work well with Business Units
+ Strong communication, teaming and leadership skills

Essential Functions
- Lead all aspects of the company’s tax function, including income tax compliance, tax provision, planning, audits, and reporting, for direct and indirect tax in the US and Canada.

- Perform high level review of all material tax filings to ensure understanding of reporting issues and positions and to ensure proper reflection of tax planning positions for corporate transactions.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, local, and international tax returns and payments.
- Monitor and interpret current and proposed tax legislation and assess impact on the company’s operations and financial position.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize the company’s global tax structure.
- Analyze and prioritize planning strategies and projects taking into consideration the business implications as well as efficiencies and benefits.
- Forecast income tax expense and cash taxes and provide actionable insights that inform strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate, help select and manage relationships with third-party tax providers, negotiating contracts and monitoring performance to ensure quality service delivery.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Guide the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of tax technology systems, with an emphasis on automation, accuracy, and control.
- Enhance the tax operating model, driving process improvements, reengineering work flows, balancing workloads, and embedding best practices.
- Support M&A and restructuring activities from a tax perspective, including due diligence, modeling, and integration.
- Act as overall coordinator and quality control for incoming requests for tax planning input and discussions with non-tax personnel of tax planning decisions and results with respect to potential, planned, or in process corporate transactions.
- Maintain and improve internal controls over tax reporting to comply with SOX requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and external partners.
- Facilitate minimization of corporate exposure of all forms of taxation.

LHH Recruitment Solutions is currently hiring an experienced Tax Director to join our client in North Oklahoma City, OK.
The Tax Director will be responsible for overseeing the Tax team, providing technical guidance, leading quality control efforts, collaborating with partners and managers to improve workflows, and ensuring compliance. This role requires at least 7 years of public accounting experience.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee tax team and manage team workflows
· Provide technical guidance for complex individual, business and multi-state tax matters
· Support client-facing tax engagements
· Ensure accurate and compliant tax filings
· Provide support for the tax team, including training, mentoring and development
· Work closely with partners and managers to manage deadlines and improve workflows
· Identify opportunities for improvement
Qualifications:
· CPA required
· 7+ years of public accounting experience required
· Supervisory experience required, including managing staff, reviewing work and mentoring
· Thorough knowledge of individual, business and multi-state tax matters
· Excellent communication and organizational skills
