Job Summary

**Incumbent can work at either the Fargo, Grand Forks, Hillsboro or Wahpeton, ND office.**

**Schedule: Full time or flexible option (75% FTE) with 3 months off!**

We are seeking a Tax Officer who will develop and maintain solid knowledge of applicable systems. Prepare tax returns and participate in tax planning meetings. Portfolio Officers will prepare returns ranging from smaller less complex customers to larger more complex customers depending on experience. Experienced Officers are capable of addressing all aspects of tax process even in complex situations. Follow department and association established processes. Achieved Farm Credit tax certification and continues to grow professionally. Encouraged to work toward or have EA or CPA certification. Participate in department projects and committees. As experience progresses, shares expertise by participating in internal presentations and answering questions from other tax officers and teammates. Experienced Officers provide training and mentorship to less experienced tax teammates. Provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Service and Operations
    • Complete timely and technically accurate income tax returns for farming operations and owners of farmland, while providing quality customer service and advice. Types of returns include, but are not limited to, individuals, partnerships, C Corporations, and S Corporations. Ensure customers comply with periodic tax payments, information reporting, and other tax authority requirements, when applicable.
    • Provide tax planning and other consulting to customers.
    • Act as the primary contact for tax-related service for the customer.
    • Manage own time to complete customer returns and planning by deadlines.
    • Remain current on tax rules and regulations.
    • Share expertise by delivering internal presentations and answering questions from other tax officers and teammates.
    • Invoice customers according to price minimums and percentage increases.
    • Follow department and association established processes.
    • Actively participate in presentations at industry events and customer meetings to promote tax expertise.

  • Sales
    • Represent the Associations at industry and agricultural events in the region.
    • Proactively provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling.
    • Promote and build reputation and image within community, region, and association

  • Projects, Initiatives, and Other Operational Work
    • Volunteer for and collaborate with the team on special projects and initiatives.

Develops competence in order to perform job role independently, with direction on complex situations, and supports a growing number of customers. Follow department and association established processes. Achieved Farm Credit tax certification and continues to grow professionally by working toward the EA or CPA Certification. Coordinate with Tax team members for complex tax rules and to provide customer problem resolution. Participate in department projects and committees. As experience progresses, shares expertise by participating in internal presentations and answering questions from other tax officers and teammates. Provide referrals to other teammates, identifying opportunities for collaboration and cross-selling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance or other related business field.

Years of Experience

2 + years experience in Tax.

Certification and Technical Requirements
  • Completion or progress in completing Farm Credit's tax certification
  • CPA or EA certification strongly encouraged

The hourly salary rate for this position ranges from $26.57 to $1.49, and State of Vermont benefits are very competitive. The annualized salary for this position ranges from approximately 55,265.60 to 86,299.20. The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade, and the annualized salary figure is calculated based on 2080 hours of annual compensation and does not include authorized overtime or other compensation. Duties are performed primarily in a standard office setting. Workload is consistently heavy with constant need for prompt and accurate decision making. **Required Qualifications:**

+ 5+ years of corporate income tax experience
+ CorpTax and SAP expertise
+ Strong tax technical knowledge, analytical, and problem-solving skills
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Detail-oriented and proficient in Excel, data analysis, and modeling
+ Experience performing complex tax calculations, analysis and tax research
+ Proven record in leveraging digital tools to gain efficiencies
+ Demonstrated ability to take ownership and lead complex projects or initiatives.
+ Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to independently manage multiple priorities.
+ Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP.

  • Facilitating discovery sessions and tax reviews to uncover deductions and minimize tax liabilities
  • Utilizing resources such as government websites, professional tools, and team expertise to deliver accurate tax solutions
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of 2 years of paid experience filing 30 or more federal and state individual 1040 tax returns per tax season using professional tax preparation software
  • An active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) as required by law to file taxes
