Conduct quarterly internal financial audit of financial statements assessing financial reporting risks and potential issues by ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and audit procedures. Manage all domestic and foreign tax filings, including annual income tax returns, 990 informational returns, and all indirect tax returns (sales tax, VAT, GST). Manage annual transfer pricing study providing input to optimize the company’s tax position and mitigate risk. Job Summary
El Paso County's Treasurer's Office is seeking a detail-oriented, knowledgeable, and customer service-focused Tax Compliance Specialist to join their team. This position is not just about ensuring compliance with tax regulations; it's about serving the public with accuracy, integrity, and empathy. As the primary point of contact for the Treasurer's Office, you will help residents and industry partners navigate complex topics such as property taxes, tax liens, tax sales, and tax deeds, while providing clear explanations and guidance that empower them to understand their obligations and options.

A background in accounting is desirable, as it supports the analytical thinking and attention to detail necessary for success in this role. The ability to work effectively under pressure and communicate clearly with a diverse audience is essential.

Responsible for compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes relating to collections and redemption of ad valorem taxes. Employment is subject to the terms, conditions, and policies detailed in the Personnel Policies Manual (PPM). This position requires regular in-person presence as an essential job function.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Complies with statutory collection processes to include redemptions, assignments, endorsements, notifications, cancellations, records notations, and records maintenance.
  • Responsible for statutory compliance of treasurer tax deed processes and/or certificates of ownership, including notifications, application processes, escrow ledger maintenance, and issued deed/certificate of ownership verification.
  • Processes tax payments as necessary.
  • Research and review public records to assist with resolving ownership or other property issues and collection issues to ensure compliance.
  • Provides and disseminates information to professionals and the general public regarding collection and enforcement of delinquent taxes.
  • Prepares, updates, and analyzes complex statistical reports and documents.
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting uncollectable ad valorem taxes to the Board of County Commissioners for cancellation.
  • Responsible for monitoring bankruptcy cases affecting property in El Paso County, including filing bankruptcy claims and withdraws within the proper jurisdiction as required.
  • Accurately calculates certified tax amounts for partial or full acquisitions by government entities as required.
  • Processes and balances electronic payment files from mortgage service companies as required.
  • May serve as a backup for verifying and updating daily payment transactions for multiple registers.
  • Process tax roll changes as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised: This classification does not have supervisory authority; however, may be required to provide expertise or limited guidance or direction to employees, such as overseeing work quality, training, and guidance. Mission of the Role:

The Tax Compliance Specialist's primary mission is to ensure compliance with U.S. federal tax regulations while contributing to the company's underlying business objectives and strategic direction. The role demands that the successful candidate is efficient and effective, with strong income tax technical and accounting skills who can focus on the key drivers of a decision and think through the down-stream consequences. Key Objectives of this Role:

  • Prepare, review, and analyze key international tax compliance issues relating to Federal Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 1118, 8990, 8992 and 8993 necessitating a strong understanding of E&P, Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, FTC and Section 861 expense allocation.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze international tax elections and disclosures such as check-the-box elections, DCL, CBC reporting, etc.
  • Assist in review and analysis of other domestic elements of the Company's consolidated U.S. Federal Income tax return (Form 1120).
  • Plan and communicate the level of dividends, monitor the payment of dividends, track and maintain previously tax earnings and profits, compute the impact of foreign exchange gains and losses of remitted and unremitted earnings for US tax accounting and compliance purposes.
  • Assist the tax accounting team with the quarterly and year-end U.S. income tax provision, including tax contingencies, deferred tax balances, valuation allowance assessments, effective tax rate, return to provision and footnote disclosure.
  • Research tax issues for planning and compliance purposes and draft memoranda to support and document conclusions and assist in review and analysis of transactions to determine any tax and reporting impact.
  • Assist with the development of a comprehensive Pillar II implementation strategy, including on-going compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, external tax consultants, and tax co-sourcing partners.
  • Remain current on new federal tax laws and regulations, ensuring full compliance and minimizing potential risks.
  • Continuously review and enhance federal tax-related processes, identifying opportunities to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Complete an in-depth analyses of Visteon's U.S. international tax compliance status providing recommendations to improve process and mitigate tax risk upon audit.
  • Implement at least one technology-driven solution to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of an existing tax compliance process.
  • Collaborate with Tax Director to develop tax modeling to optimize Visteon's U.S. tax attributes.
  • Successfully build an internal resource network evidenced by collaboration with cross-functional teams to obtain information necessary to complete key objectives.
Key Year One Deliverables:
  • Complete an in-depth analyses of Visteon's U.S. international tax compliance status providing recommendations to improve process and mitigate tax risk upon audit.
  • Implement at least one technology-driven solution to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of an existing tax compliance process.
  • Gain thorough understanding of Pillar II reporting requirements, including assisting in the implementation and execution of automated and comprehensive global processes and procedures.
  • To the extent not a current skillset, become proficient in Corptax, QAD, OneStream and Alteryx through training modules and on the job learning.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent required
  • CPA and/or Master's degree in Taxation preferred
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible tax experience
  • Proven knowledge of U.S. Federal & International return compliance process
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledgers and local statutory reporting
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel required
  • Corptax, QAD, SAP, OneStream and Alteryx experience preferred

What You'll Do:

Tax Compliance

Location: New York, NY

MiQ Digital Inc is searching for a detail-oriented tax compliance manager to work with advisors to calculate, prepare and file all local US tax returns and assist with US tax planning. This person will help meet tax deadlines seamlessly, from organizing relevant documents to conducting thorough reviews of potential tax scenarios. The ideal candidate has experience in accounting or tax preparation and is committed to remaining up to date with changes in tax law. The tax compliance manager should also have a knack for educating others and implementing well-planned strategies to improve our tax filing practices.

Objectives of this role:

File statements and returns by the established deadlines, preferably without need for revision

Use comprehensive tax knowledge to maximize benefits , deductions and assist with large company compliance in the US e.g. BEAT.

Educate others on best practices for tax filing, preparation, and record-keeping

Responsibilities:

Review Federal and State tax returns prepared by third party advisor. In particular, build a State Tax in-house process from scratch which will require working with the

broader Finance and HR team.

Calculate estimated Federal and States tax payments. Also, prepare US tax provisions for management accounts and maintain and keep up to date the US tax balance sheet account.

Conduct complex state tax research and draft/review technical memorandums;

Monitor state nexus and filings to ensure compliance with state tax laws and regulations, identifying any potential areas of risk or exposure.

Assist with state tax audits, inquiries, and notices, including responding to information requests and negotiating settlements with tax authorities.

Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns in compliance with IRS regulations.

Calculate and review federal, state and local tax payments and refunds.

Review various financial documents in order to prepare federal and state tax returns and provide tax services

Develop and execute tax strategies after researching potential deductions and liabilities

Collaborate with other team members to devise long-term tax plans and strategies

Prepare continuously for major tax deadlines throughout the year

Assist with US withholding tax returns.

Assist with large US company compliance such as BEAT, etc.

Research and work with advisors to keep updated with sales and use tax consequences for the US business.

Resolve tax audit queries from US States and IRS.
