About the Role

OpenAI is hiring a Tax Director to lead structuring on our most complex, high-impact transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, financings, and global reorganizations. You'll work alongside senior leadership to architect and execute tax strategies that shape how OpenAI grows, scales, and partners around the world. This role requires deep technical expertise and a strong track record of navigating sophisticated deal environments. The ideal candidate will bring a highly specialized skill set and the ability to deliver impactful tax advice in high-stakes, fast-moving transactions.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead the tax structuring and execution of complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations.
  • Conduct and oversee tax due diligence for potential acquisitions and investments, identifying key risks and opportunities.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate tax-related contractual provisions to ensure alignment with business objectives and to mitigate tax risks.
  • Partner closely with legal, finance, and corporate development teams to develop and implement tax-efficient structures for transactions.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $91,350 to $193,440.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
