Position Overview
LaAmistad seeks teachers and individuals passionate about K-5 education to serve and support our afterschool programming as aclassroomteacher. This team member will support students andthe Site Director by delivering math and
reading instruction and assisting with daily program operations. This is an ideal role for a candidate with strong instructional knowledge, organizational skills, and a love of children and teaching.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Afterschool Site Director to:
- Deliver academic support focused on reading and math tailored to students individual needs.
- Set up and maintain afterschool program activities, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Administer reading and math assessments accurately and efficiently to monitor student progress.
- Analyze assessment data and prepare clear reports to guide instructional decisions and communicate outcomes.
- Provide grade-level appropriate resources and activities to support targeted learning goals.
- Assist and coordinate with volunteers to maximize program effectiveness and student engagement.
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, scheduling, and record-keeping.
- Communicate effectively with the afterschool team, students, families, and school staff, to support student success.
- Analyze student data to enhance learning outcomes and guide instructions.
- Assist in preparing, teaching, and evaluating assigned instructional content.
- Guide staff and volunteers
to recognize and address diverse learner needs.
- Use best practices in math, reading, and writing instruction.
- Support implementation of balanced literacy strategies and assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to staff and volunteers on student needs.
- Model and lead classroom management (student behavior & engagement).
- Support the Site Director with on-site programming needs.
- Prepare supplemental materials to help students practice skills.
- Ensure student engagement with learning and volunteers.
- Model instructional resources for staff and volunteers.
- Ensure academic resources are appropriate for student needs.
- Collaborate with Site Director and Parent Liaison on planning.
- Attend mandatory professional development (quarterly) and team meetings (monthly).
- Fill in as Site Director as needed.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelors degree or higher (preferably in Education or a related field)
- Minimum 1-3 years of formal or informal teaching experience with children grades K-5.
- Strong knowledge of math and reading strategies.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Comfortable managing and working in a room with a large group of elementary students.
- Ability to administer and interpret academic assessments.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite (including Chromebooks).
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
- Possess or qualify for a Georgia Teaching License.
- Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs).
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Experience working with diverse populations and multicultural settings.
- Experience coaching others in instructional strategies (math and reading).
- Candidates over age 25 who are willing to drive a small bus/van to transport up to 14 students to afterschool, in addition to filling this role, will receive an additional 2/hour above their determined pay rate.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit, walk, and carry/lift items up to 30 lbs.
- Navigate campuses quickly, including climbing stairs and pushing rolling carts.
- Adequate hearing and vision to fulfill job responsibilities.

14. Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional.
15. Takes an active part in the contractually -approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning the results of that evaluation.
16. Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff; said meetings to be held during the extended day.
17. Attend established traditional school sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House, programs, activities) agreed upon by the building administrator and the faculty consistent with the teachers' contract.
18. Contribute to the decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
19. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Highly qualified with required competency in the content area; and
2. Appropriate content/ program area educator license (Elementary) and grade level (1-6) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and
3. Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or
4. Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.

Participates as an active member with other faculty and staff. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy. Maintains and improves professional competence. Other Specifications:The Charter School Special Education Specialist supervises support of all Special Education services for K-6 students at all campuses.
This includes: provides support for students in grades K-6 weekly, writes initial IEPs for students that qualify for services. Confers with lead teachers, classroom teachers, and paraprofessionals regarding student support and scheduling of services. Updates documentation annually as needed. Maintains district Special Populations binders in all classrooms. Supports students receiving Special Education services during local and state assessment. Writes progress reports on all Special Education students and disseminating progress reports to classroom teacher each nine week grading period
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Communicates effectively both written and orally.
Must be willing to travel between zoned Charter School sites. Sites located in Greater Houston area.
