Job Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified teaching assistant to join our growing school. In this position, you will aid teachers virtually in the classroom by working with individual students or small groups of students. Strong interpersonal communication skills and a patient, positive attitude are a must.

Responsibilities:
  • Able to communicate and discuss assigned duties with teachers and effectively coordinate instructional efforts
  • Organize and prepare materials such as lesson materials, bulletin boards, exhibits, equipment, etc.
  • Assist and tutor children individually and in small groups under teacher's guidance to help master material and reinforce learning
  • Oversee students in classrooms, other areas on campus, and field trips
  • Follow and enforce school rules
  • Grade homework and tests, and record results
  • Observe and record student performance as requested to assess progress
  • Organize classroom and materials
  • Provide extra assistance to students with special needs as requested
  • Take class attendance and maintain attendance records
  • Participate in staff meetings and committees
  • Perform clerical work such as typing, filing, and duplicating materials
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Proven experience working with children of school age
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Assist the teacher in planning and implementing activities with children
  • Follow basic principles of childhood development
  • Establish and maintain effective, working relationships with children, parents, and staff

The Special Education Instructional Assistant (Teaching Assistant) is a non-certified assistant to the Special Education Program at the academy. The assistant will: Serve students in both general education and special education resource classrooms Work to support students in all settings on campus Work under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers Provide 1:1 support for students needing behavioral support *Additional duties may be included, depending on the experience and expertise of the candidate and the specific academy needs. Great Hearts Academies is a growing network of 49 classical liberal arts academies across Phoenix (AZ), Baton Rouge (LA), Dallas/Ft. Worth (TX), San Antonio (TX), and Florida (fall of 2026). We currently provide over 30,000 K-12 students with access to a high quality, classical liberal arts education, without the barriers that often come with private prep schools. We gladly prepare our graduates for success in the best universities in the nation, but our main purpose is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind. Experience: The ideal candidate has previous experience in Special Education. The ideal candidate has two years previous experience with behavioral support in Special Education.
