POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Special Education Support Facilitator, the Education Specialist is responsible
for providing Special Education, Academic and Social Skills Intervention Services to identified students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform initial, triennial, and other assessments for students having IEPs (or those with signed
assessment plans);
• Plans and designs curricula for educational programs; researches and defines educational goals,
objectives, and methodologies to meet program goals;
• Determines formats and approaches to achieve program and budget objectives; defines needs of
target populations; researches trends at the national and state level, as appropriate to the
position;
• Coordinates activities of support staff, consultants, faculty, and/or volunteers engaged in
implementation and administration of program objectives;
• Manages and facilitates program activities, to include classes, trainings, conferences, seminars,
and/or other special projects;
• As appropriate to the nature and objectives of the individual role, provides student advisement
and support services, coordinates curriculum, and serves as a student liaison and advocate with
faculty and staff;
• Writes, edits, and coordinates development of course catalogs, promotional materials,
educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the
program;
• Assist with state standardized testing, as needed;
• Attend IEP meetings invited to including transition, pre-enrollment, initial, annual, triennial, etc.;
• Provide IEP- Special education services at all OGCS Learning Centers;
• Write initial, annual, triennial and exit IEPs (excluding Speech/Language);
• Maintain special education records to meet compliance guidelines;
• Create assessment reports when appropriate;
• Ensure that current IEPs are on file at school sites and oversee student working folders;
• Annotate goals/objectives when appropriate for each student when designated; place progress
report in IEP file;
• Maintain schedule of assigned caseload IEP deadlines;
• Communicate with parents about student progress and recommendations for home-based
methods and materials; follows up on progress regularly;
• Participate in kindergarten screenings, as needed;
• Collaborate with administration and classroom teachers at times regarding academic curriculum
materials; provide instructional materials when needed/ applicable;
• Assist with implementation/understanding of accommodations/modifications ;
• Attend staff meetings;
• Consult with school administrators, Special Education Support Facilitator,
regular education teachers, other specialists and parents regarding behavior
management, ADHD issues, etc.;
• Provide consultation regarding students involved in the SST process/504;
• Collaborate with NPA contractors who provide related services as outlined in student's IEP
• Maintain schedule of NPA contractors for assigned caseload
• Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in a variety of settings including offices, classrooms and outdoors and may
experience heat or cold extremes as well as fumes, odors, dust, noise level is moderate to loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Spends the majority of the day standing and sitting in an office setting. While standing the
controller will frequently hold light objects they are working and demonstrating, etc. These can be
held from waist level to slightly above the principal’s head. The position can entail kneeling or
squatting, stooping and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent
basis on a given day
• May use computers, overhead projectors, or monitors etc.
• Must sit on a consistent basis. This is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist,
leaning on the forearms, and looking down which requires neck flexion.
• It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc., either occasionally
or frequently, depending on the day.
• May occasionally have to climb or balance on counters, stepladders or chairs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior Educational Specialist will perform a variety of administrative, logistical, and technical tasks essential for ensuring excellence and efficient Department operations. The Senior Educational Specialist will support Faculty Program Coordinators with tasks to include:
- Coordinating and assisting with Program Recruitment, including assisting with transcript reviews, responding to prospective students, coordinating brochure creation/updates for program recruitment, program website updates, and required program assessments, updating SmartSheets recruitment goals trackers, and working with the Office of Strategic Recruitment and Outreach and Office of Communications on recruitment activities (program recruitment, brochures, website, information sessions).
- Coordinating and managing program admissions and application processes at the departmental level, including coordinating acceptance letters from program coordinators to newly accepted students (e.g. revision of letters, data collection and mailing/emailing as needed).
- Performing programmatic research as requested, such as creating lists of elective course descriptions from across the university or finding equivalent program materials and course syllabi from peer institutions.
- Writing and editing key documents as necessary, including updates to program handbooks, department handbook and submit edits for department webpages.
- Maintaining archive of commonly-requested resources for faculty and students.
- Building and assisting with course schedules and monitoring/supporting enrollment.
- Building Canvas sites, Google Forms or other Webpages to house program information, as needed.
- Serving as a liaison between department and offices in the SOE to support students and between faculty and students in regard to policies and procedures.
- Informing faculty of student violations of enrollment and providing outreach to students to encourage enrollment.
- Working with the Office of Graduate Studies to coordinate and manage application and admissions process.
- Assisting with adjunct hires, serving on adjunct search committee, serving as first point of contact for adjuncts, providing onboarding/training for new and continuing adjuncts specific to the department, coordinating adjunct meetings and communicating with adjuncts.
- Serving on SOE hiring committees.
- Helping to onboard new colleagues in similar positions.
- Assisting with advising and responding to the needs of current and prospective students, including initial advising of students (e.g., program of study, course taking schedule), completing subwaiver and Special Action Forms (SAFs) as needed, and maintaining student database and advising systems in Google Sheets to inform course enrollment and offerings
- Assisting with developing and updating program handbooks
- Coordinating program events and activities (i.e., information .sessions, orientation, recruitment activities).
- Maintaining/Submitting student documentation required by VDOE
- Assisting program coordinators with finalizing and submitting Curri.culum Inventory Management (CIM) updates.
- Overseeing non-credit offerings.
- Attending semesterly recruitment forums.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Position Purpose:
Entry level position where the Compliance Education Specialist is responsible for training customers on OSHA, HIPAA, and HazCom compliance/regulations via presentations, on site facility OSHA Evaluations / HIPAA Gap Analysis and customer consultation.
Key Job Activities:
• Provide onsite services as designed to include presenting power point presentations, OSHA site evaluations and HIPAA gap analysis; Mystericycle.com system overview, completion of one safely plan and evaluations with recommendations
• Assist with managing assigned territory/book of business; company expenses (i.e. travel, hotel, flights, etc.)
• Respond to all phone calls and emails from customers to provide answers/resolutions to compliance questions and information needed to assist the customer with achieving compliance
• Possess level of technology knowledge to enable you to utilize electronic technology to deliver and complete the onsite visit and upload customer documents/reports ASAP including but not limited to power point, word, excel, etc.
• Continuously study and maintain current competency in the areas of bloodborne pathogens, OSHA, HIPAA and HazCom regulations to enhance proficiencies as well as continuing to study CDC protocols for health care workers
• Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
Education:
Preferred Education: in Associates or Equivalent
Experience:
• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2+ Years of Experience, in a healthcare environment
• Completion of 30-hour online OSHA training is required to be completed within first 6 weeks upon joining our Team; Completion of HIPAA certification at a later date upon joining our Team.
• This position requires being on-site at Stericycle customer locations and complying with all of the customers’ mandatory immunization requirements, including full vaccination against COVID-19.
