Position Description:
Technical Sourcing Program Manager for Medtronic, Inc. located in Mounds View, MN. Responsible for serving as a contact between R&D and suppliers to develop complex medical device products. Responsible for the reduction and mitigation of risk, improving timelines and developing lasting relationships that are critical to meeting business and technical challenges. Engage and utilize processes to coordinate New Product Development (NPD) and risk reduction activities with suppliers. Responsible for cross-functional collaboration and driving the adoption of Capable Technologies & Sources in Product Development. Conduct Make vs Buy analysis, supplier selection and develop sourcing strategies to deliver predictable supply & competitiveness. Responsible for risk assessment plans, time matrices, and test strategy (Plans and Reports). Provide Project Mgmt. for sourcing deliverables and communication with cross-functional groups and suppliers. Responsible for Product Validation and Supplier Quality to include technical aspects of projects. Utilize Design Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) tools and risk mitigation. Leverage Critical Feature Identification (CFI), Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA) to develop inspection methods with Suppliers. Support and report on Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification & Performance Qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities with internal and external suppliers. Provide cross-commodity sourcing for NPD groups and support Mergers & Acquisition supply base transfers. Track supplied component Quality, Supply Risk, Material Cost, Response / Lead Time, & Technology advancement for new products. Requires up to 25% travel to suppliers and conferences within the U.S. and internationally. Position works a hybrid model, requiring the employee to be onsite in Mounds View, MN at least 4 days per week. Relocation assistance not provided. #LI-DNI.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires a Master's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Biomedical Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration or related engineering field and three (3) years of experience as a technical sourcing specialist or related occupation in technical sourcing; or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Biomedical Engineering, Project Management or Business Administration or related engineering field and five (5) years of experience as a technical sourcing specialist or related occupation in technical sourcing. Must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Supplier selection and developing technical sourcing strategies; Risk assessment plans, time matrices, and test strategy (Plans and Reports); Project Mgmt. for sourcing deliverables; Product Validation and/or Supplier Quality, DRM, Critical Feature Identification, and PFMEA; IQ/OQ/PQ; Commodity sourcing for NPD groups and supporting Mergers & Acquisition supply base transfers; and Tracking supplied component Quality, Supply Risk, Material Cost, Response / Lead Time, and Technology advancement.
Salary: $121,400 to $172,800 per year

As a part of supply chain management, the Technical Sourcing Manager will work closely with our R&D and PLM team to develop technology partnerships in the optical component market to enable technology and product advancement and sustainable growth with cost effective solutions for Wavelength Management Product families within our Optical Solutions business unit. This is an opportunity for an individual to develop and evaluate optical, mechanical and electrical components and technology partners. This person will also support and recommend technologies and partners for new product development and mass production.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for Wavelength Management product lines; explore and identify technologies and optical components suitable for existing and next gen inter- and intra- hyperscale datacenter and telecommunication market.
  • Provide technical guidance to supply chain management teams on passive optical components and providing sourcing needs for PLM and Engineering leaders.
  • Act a technical and commercial liaison for NPD and NPI projects between vendor and Molex Engineering/PLM teams on technology assessment, specifications, schedule, capacity, price, commercial terms and agreement with the support of Molex global and optical Supply Chain Management team.
  • Work closely with Global teams, especially Zhuhai, China purchasing and production teams to coordinate component supply from small volume built to mass production.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Optical, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials and other Engineering or Physics areas.
  • At least 4 years of combined professional work experience in optical engineering (quality, testing, design, process development, application and reliability, technical marketing, engineering sourcing, product line management)
  • Experience understanding the product development lifecycles for optical engineering projects
  • Experience interfacing with vendors or customers.
  • Mandarin speaking.

What Will Put You Ahead
  • In-depth knowledge and experience working with Passive and active optical components (WSS, OCM, EDFA, MEMS, PLC, LCOS, packaging material and technologies, PD, APD, TOSA, ROSA, Wafer Fab, etc) for Telecommunication and Datacenter applications.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in Optical Engineering including device design, process development, program management, application engineering and engineering sourcing, product line management, technical marketing/Sales.
  • Advanced Degree in Optical engineering, Electrical engineering, mechanical Engineering, physics, etc.
