- Assists the radiologist in performing invasive diagnostic techniques such as needle biopsies, aspirations, and guided needle-wire placement exams for surgery.
- Provides standardization and training to residents regarding these exams.
- Evaluates any contra-indications, such as medications, insufficient patient preparation or the patients inability, or unwillingness to tolerate the procedure.
- Performs the ultrasound procedure under general or direct supervision, as defined by the procedure and/or physician.
- Recognizes sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow.
- Analyzes sonography findings throughout the course of the examination so that a comprehensive exam is completed and sufficient data is provided to the physician.
- Recognizes situations or abnormalities that require the direct observation of the real-time scan by the radiologist.
- Images structures while simultaneously obtaining Doppler signal and recording images and Doppler shift recordings along with patient information for interpretation by a radiologist.
- Advises radiologist and/or referring physician of results of the examination and provides preliminary information regarding diagnostic evaluation.
- Three (3) years of experience as an Ultrasound Tech.
- Must complete all departmental specific Sonographer competencies within twelve (12) months from date of hire, as well as complete all annual modality competencies and assigned continual education to maintain Ultrasound Tech II.
- Required Education: Completion of a twelve (12) month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography / General Ultrasound or equivalent certificate program is required.
- RDMS registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with certification in at least one modality specific to department of hire (i.e. Abd, OBGYN, RVT).

Job Summary
The CT Technologist I is responsible for operating CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to established protocols. This role involves preparing and positioning patients, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with radiologists and healthcare team members to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic results. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care are essential for success in this position.
Essential Functions

Operates CT equipment and processing systems to produce high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring compliance with departmental protocols and standards.

Prepares and positions patients appropriately for CT procedures, using suitable positioning and immobilization techniques based on patient needs and comfort.

Ensures accurate patient identification, verifies physician orders, and screens patients for contraindications to the examination.
-
Performs point-of-care creatinine testing and calculates GFR when required for contrast studies. Documents results and adheres to contrast administration protocols.
-
Administers contrast media as ordered, following safety protocols. Monitors patients for adverse reactions and responds appropriately.

Explains procedures clearly to patients, addressing questions to alleviate fear and anxiety, and provides instructions during and after the exam.

Collaborates with radiologists and healthcare team members to ensure accurate, timely, and patient-centered care.
-
Assists with interventional CT procedures such as biopsies or drain placements, including sterile field setup and patient support.
-
Reviews images for technical accuracy, presents completed studies to the radiologist, and communicates findings to relevant healthcare team members as needed.

Documents patient clinical history and correlates it with imaging studies to support accurate diagnostic interpretation.

Maintains and performs regular quality control checks on CT equipment, reporting any malfunctions promptly to ensure optimal functionality.

Responds to emergency situations, including contrast reactions or urgent imaging needs, in accordance with facility protocols.
-
Maintains a clean, organized, and fully stocked work area by monitoring supply levels and ensuring CT equipment is ready for use.
-
Adheres to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, and follows all infection control and radiation safety guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
-
1-2 years of clinical experience acquired through an accredited radiologic sciences program required
-
2-4 years of experience as a CT Technologist in an acute care hospital setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in operating CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.

Ability to ensure patient safety and comfort while adhering to established protocols.

Skills in preparing and positioning patients accurately for CT scans, including using safety lifts and/or additional personnel for patient transfers.

Competence in maintaining CT equipment and ensuring its proper functioning.

Ability to collaborate effectively with radiologists and healthcare team members.

Knowledge of aseptic, surgical, and radiologic techniques.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and deliver accurate results under minimal supervision.

Licenses and Certifications

Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required

CT - Computed Tomography certification or eligibility to obtain within six (6) months of hire required

BCLS - Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire required

(R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer preferred

Job Summary
Produces two dimensional images using ultrasound equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease or malfunction of organs. Ability to perform reflux studies, pulse volume recording, segmental pressures, vein mapping.
Essential Job Functions

Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure.

Reconfirms the patient's identification and verifies the physician's order.

Assures the proper screening protocol is completed.
-
Provides information to the patient about the procedure.
-
Verifies the patient has consented to the procedure and answers any questions the patient may have.
-
Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand.
-
Analyzes the information obtained during the assessment phase to determine optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis.

Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure
-
Assesses factors that may contraindicate procedure such as medications and insufficient patient preparation.
-
Selects appropriate ultrasound equipment and scanning techniques based on the age and size of the patient and the objective of the exam to optimize the procedure and minimize patient exposure to acoustic energy

Obtains optimum images during scan.

Adjusts as needed to better visualize the anatomy or pathology according to established guidelines

Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist

Takes action based on patient and procedural variances

Notifies appropriate healthcare provider when immediate clinical response is necessary based on findings and patient condition

Initiates additional scanning techniques for further investigation of area of interest.

Collects and documents additional images and patient data as needed.

Provides the interpreting physician with a summary of findings according to hospital protocol.

Keeps abreast of any changes in vascular imaging to improve patient care.

Documents information about patient care, exam, and patient history in appropriate record.

Verifies correct order is entered into RIS

Documents appropriate patient history into PACS system

Documents any exceptions from the established guidelines.

Completes medication reconciliation documentation according to department guidelines.

Facilitates correspondence with all departments to assure procedures are done in a timely manner.

Works with centralized scheduling, nursing units and ER to accommodate STAT or ASAP orders.

Responds to emergency call per department procedures.

Maintains equipment and work station in optimum condition.

Performs daily QC on equipment.

Assures adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained.

Required Qualifications

Completion of CAAHEP accredited Medical Ultrasound Program

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a vascular setting
