TheNetwork Engineer is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of NJM's Enterprise Network, ensuring its reliability and performance. Collaborating closely with IT infrastructure and operations teams, this position will play a critical role in delivering stable and efficient network services that support the organization's technology needs.

Job Responsibilities:

Network Operations and Support

• Maintain LAN/WAN and Data Center Infrastructure Components
• Maintain cabling infrastructure for phone and data network
• Create reusable configuration templates to standardize the deployment of network devices and features
• Perform network asset management tasks, including device inventory, lifecycle management, and documentation of technical specifications
• Maintain disaster recovery network infrastructure and participate in annual DR Exercise
• Perform network device OS upgrades and system patching to maintain appropriate security, vendor support, and feature sets
• Monitor ticketing queues and respond to outstanding requests and other assigned work orders

• Generate usage, availability, and performance report for management consumption
• Generate and analyze usage reports for capacity planning

• Act as an escalation point for Service Desk and other level 1 support groups to troubleshoot network related issues.
• Provide 24x7 off hours support as a part of a rotating on call schedule to respond to fault alarm and escalation from level 1 support teams
• Capture and analyze network packet traces to support troubleshooting efforts

• Evaluate published security advisories and remediate security vulnerabilities consistent with NJM Patch Management Program
• Validate device configurations for security best practice for network infrastructure
• Maintain identify management platform to control access to the corporate wireless network
• Maintain SSL client VPN infrastructure to securely connect employees to the corporate network

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology
• Minimum of 1 years of experience maintaining a mid-size enterprise network infrastructure

We are seeking a skilled and service-oriented Network Engineer with at least five years of experience to manage, maintain, and enhance our network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and a deep commitment to advancing our mission by ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient connectivity across the organization.

1. Manage SD-WAN technologies to support secure and reliable connectivity across distributed offices.
2. Ensure adherence to IT security compliance standards, including implementation and oversight of MDR and EDR solutions.
3. Support and maintain data center infrastructure, ensuring high availability and scalability of core network services.
4. Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and applying emerging IT technologies, including server systems and virtualization platforms to meet organizational needs.
5. Administer and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring organizational data integrity and business continuity.
6. Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, outages, and vulnerabilities.
7. Configure and manage firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points to ensure optimal performance and security.
8. Implement and maintain VPNs and remote access solutions for staff.
9. Conduct regular network security assessments and implement best practices to protect sensitive data.
10. Collaborate with other teams to understand their technological needs and provide network solutions that support program delivery.
11. Maintain and update network documentation, including diagrams, IP schemas, and configuration records.
12. Support VoIP systems and ensure quality of service (QoS) for voice and video communications.
13. Assist in the planning and execution of IT infrastructure projects, including office moves, expansions, and upgrades.
14. Provide Tier 2/3 support for network-related issues escalated by the help desk or IT support team.
15. Train and mentor junior IT staff on network tools and procedures.
16. Participate in the development and testing of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience); certifications a plus (CCNA, CCNP, Security+ Azure, AWS)
• Background or certification in Cybersecurity, with practical experience in securing network environments.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering.
• Advanced expertise in Cisco technologies, including SD-WAN, MPLS, and VoIP, ensuring optimal network performance and communication.
• Hands-on experience with cloud networking architectures such as Azure Virtual Networks (VNets) and AWS Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs).
• Familiarity with VMware or similar virtualization technologies is a plus.
• Proficient in the use of network monitoring and performance tools such as LogicMonitor, PRTG, or similar platforms.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Typically works in an office setting but may require on-site visits to one of our remote locations (Washington, DC or Boston).

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.

Pay Range: $97,947-$113,724

Responsibilities

Gathers information concerning the capabilities of Company products; investigates the technical capabilities of Company products and competing equipment and/or solutions; stays abreast of developments in hardware and software. Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and ensures requirements comply through formal verification methods. Translates high level product development strategies into network and system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower level detailed implementation requirements.
