**What you'll do:**
+ Participates in planning, design, installation and configuration of telecom transport equipment such as Carrier Ethernet, DWDM, Sonet and Microwave transport systems.
+ Perform network analysis and troubleshooting of AEP's telecommunication transport networks and systems.
+ Collaborate with planning, project management, various engineering organizations and vendors to satisfy AEP's requirements for the telecom transport network.
+ Perform scoping details for telecom transport projects related to new installs as well as upgrades to existing telecom transport equipment.
+ Prepares cost estimates and supporting documentation for engineering assignments using established guidelines.
+ Performs documentation of project work using established guidelines.
+ Performs network assignments to develop telecom architecture improvements for the transport network.
+ Follow standard workflow for engineering projects; apply economic analysis techniques and adhere to budgeting and approval processes in project development.
+ Demonstrate knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems.
+ Learn AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of one's organizational unit.
**What we're looking for in a Consultant (Grade 7):**
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study plus 2 years of relevant work experience, **OR** Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 4 years of relevant work experience **OR** HS diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant work experience required.
+ Valid Driver's License is Required.
**What we're looking for in a Consultant Senior (Grade 8):**
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study plus 5 years of relevant work experience **OR** Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 7 years of relevant work experience **OR** HS diploma/GED with 9 years of relevant work experience required.
+ Valid Driver's License Required.
**Additional Requirements:**
+ Preference to have either an Engineering in Training EIT Certificate in any U.S. State, or Cisco CCNA Certification Possess solid level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.

Position: Technical consultant - network automation
Location: Dallas, TX (onsite 3 times per week)
Duration:4 months minimum ( August to November 2025), possible 12 months

Essential Duties, technical expertise and Responsibilities:

1. AI, python, and Ansible
2. Most of the work will be surrounding Network Functions, Infrastructure and respective Automation including Transport -- essentially automating manual work of the users interacting with those elements
3. We will infuse AI for these initiatives, so AI skillset is required - we want folks to build network automation use-cases for us leveraging WatsonX platform - we have a variety of models. WatsonX experience is preferred while experience with similar platforms is required
4. Aggressive milestones and deliverables will be around building agents
