Job Summary:
The Designer Drafter is responsible for creating detailed mechanical 3D models and 2D drawings for industrial products, including components and assemblies. This includes developing and maintaining system designs for industrial and military ground support equipment, applying control system theory, and troubleshooting complex mechanical systems. Proficiency in CAD systems, familiarity with mechanical systems, and adherence to engineering standards and ISO 9001 guidelines are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Mechanical Drafting:
- Design detailed mechanical components and assemblies.
- Create assembly drawings, component descriptions, and instructions.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure precision.
Mechanical Design and Development:
- Develop system designs and architecture for new product development, including components like diesel engine-driven systems, air compressors, and electro-mechanical devices.
- Troubleshoot and analyze mechanical systems, including power , HVAC, pneumatics, and sheet metal/structural enclosures.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for design validation.
Design Development:
- Develop original design drawings from engineering sketches and ideas.
Bill of Materials (BOM):
- Generate and maintain BOMs for mechanical assemblies.
- Update BOMs as needed based on design changes.
Project Management:
- Coordinate with production, purchasing, and test personnel to meet approved project schedules.
- Maintain cost control by meeting Design to Cost (DTC) objectives through proper component selection and supplier coordination.
Quality Control:
- Review drawings for accuracy, including GD&T for mechanical designs.
Time Management:
- Estimate time for drafting and design tasks and adhere to project deadlines.
Engineering Changes:
- Review and process Engineering Change Requests; update BOMs and documents in the ERP system.
Miscellaneous:
- Perform other duties as assigned.

ISO 9001 Compliance:
- Ensure documentation and processes meet ISO 9001 standards.
Professional Development:
- Engage in training and stay updated on industry practices and drafting tools.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of drafting and design experience using 2D and 3D CAD systems.
- Proficiency in applying GD&T to mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with heat transfer, thermodynamics, and pneumatics.
- Experience designing with sheet metal and structural steel enclosures.
- Familiarity with BOM creation and ERP systems.
- Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
