Job Summary: Under limited supervision, uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to plan, organize and lead recreational activities and programs that promote physical, emotional and social well-being. Employs various recreational activities to build and delivers programs to help children, youth, and adults of all ages with physical, intellectual, and/or emotional challenges improve their overall quality of life. Routine contact with internal and external stakeholders, including family members and healthcare professionals is required to meet goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs and abilities of clients to develop personalized recreation plans. Ability to adapt and be creative in content where appropriate.
  • Plan and implement a wide range of recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, music, and more.
  • Lead group sessions and recreational therapy groups to encourage social interaction and support among clients.
  • Provide emotional support, motivation, and encouragement to clients.
  • Provide education and skill-building activities related to mental health, stress management, and coping strategies.
  • Promote community integration and participation in local events and activities to reduce isolation and enhance socialization.
  • Create a safe and inclusive group environment.
  • Collaborate with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals to set goals and evaluate progress.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to client assessments, progress, and program evaluations.
  • Continuously evaluate and adapt programs to meet changing client needs.
  • Generate regular reports to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Remains current in therapeutic recreational techniques
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.

**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
+ Under general direction, a TR1 works with patients, families and a multidisciplinary team to assess patient's needs- including use of clinical interviews with patients, family and other professionals; chart review; and/or standardized assessment tools. TR1 assesses the five domains of recreation therapy (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive) to formulate a treatment plan. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission to discharge.
+ Under general direction, this position provides a wide range of Therapeutic Recreation interventions to a pediatric inpatient population using specialized skills, including assessment, treatment program planning and implementation, and related documentation. This position will assist with pediatric program development, and also provide consultative support to staff in the ED and outpatient clinics.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Demonstrate working knowledge of disease process, precautions, typical medical treatment and diagnostic procedures, functional abilities, complications, and implications of long-term deficits related to primary diagnoses.
+ Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the developmental stages and their effects on hospitalizations.
+ Demonstrate proficiency in the evaluation and assessments of patients ages 0-18 years (and adults with developmental delays placing them at a developmental age between 0-18) with a variety of complex and multiple medical issues.
+ Create individualized care plans based off the five TR domains (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive).
+ Provide a diverse, well-rounded, goal directed treatment program that will accommodate individual patient needs based on age, ability, cognitive and physical function and social limitations.
+ Demonstrates competence in providing developmental, educational, and therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents and their families under stress of hospitalization or illness.
+ Assists pediatric patients with modifications to activity or adaptive equipment for return to play, ADLs and return to school/community.
+ Serves as a resource to other disciplines in the developmental needs of pediatric and adolescent populations; attends patient care rounds including pediatric and burn rounds regularly.
+ Provide integration opportunities to include knowledge of community resource and environmental awareness, return to school and community, and family education.
+ Documents evaluation, intervention, strategies for treatment and recommendations for other team members in online medical record.
+ Communicate interventions to team with emphasis on goals, progress and discharge planning. Participates in workgroup or selected department activities/projects to promote delivery of quality care to the pediatric population, as assigned.
+ Provides education and training to other rehab therapy staff and health care professionals. Participates in school re-entry program.
+ Monitors supplies and requests supplies when needed.
+ Maintains professional growth and development through conferences, seminars, and professional affiliations.
+ Provides objective feedback on peer evaluations.
+ Practices UW Service Culture Guidelines.
+ Contributes to the efficient operation of clinic and/or workgroup.

**REQUIREMENTS**
Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program
AND
Registered as a Recreational Therapist in the State of Washington.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Maintains CTRS.
6 months of pediatric experience or comparable education/experience.
Current Washington State Driver's License.
CPR certification.
Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited Child Life program AND

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAM

Our Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) play a critical role in our Therapeutic Recreation Program, supporting youth and young adults navigating at-risk behaviors in an after-school setting. BHTs provide mentorship, guidance, and care through trauma-informed approaches and cognitive behavior therapy, utilizing sports and activities as therapeutic tools. The role involves working closely with the clinical team to implement individualized treatment plans and ensure the safety and well-being of our clients.

We encourage the development of healthy relationships and personal growth through group and individual treatment programs. Our mentors and clinicians work closely with the client's treatment teams, families, and guardians to ensure they receive the most effective services.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate support and intervention to youth in crisis, utilizing trauma-informed care principles and de-escalation techniques.
  • Offer one-on-one mentorship to address emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Facilitate and actively engage in workshops focusing on personal development, academic achievement, and professional skill-building.
  • Supervise youth during activities, ensuring safety and adherence to program policies.
  • Maintain accurate daily documentation, records, and reports.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide integrated support to youth through sports and activities.
  • Provide transportation to and from therapeutic recreation programs in company vehicles.

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm (typical schedule for BHTs)
