**Job Summary**
In this role you will debug, sharpen, and maintain Progressive, Compound stamping tools and assembly tools. Also make new and rebuild stamping tools.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Troubleshoot manufacturing problems on dies.
+ Sharpen and rework carbide and Steel components.
+ Work with and advise Tool & Die Makers, Machinists and Mechanics on die issues.
+ Manage component inventories.
+ Manage tool Maintenance schedules.
+ Utilize CNC: CMM, EDM and Mill to maintain Dies.
+ Pull and set tooling as required for troubleshooting.
+ Clean machines and tool room equipment.
+ Hold dimensional tolerances called out on drawings.
+ Read, Review and Revise prints.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Adhere to all company policies.
+ Must observe all good housekeeping practices.
+ Must be able to self-start/time manage and follow written or verbal instructions.
+ Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
+ Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance **.**
+ Safety glasses, hairnet, face/beard cover, gloves, slip resistant steel toed safety shoes and hearing protection as required.
**Education**
+ High School Diploma or GED Required.
+ Trade School preferred.
**Work Experience**

+ Programming Conversational CNC.
+ Programming Conversational CMM.
+ Stamping experience High speed Approximately 400 SPM.
+ Understanding of six-sigma and processing improvements.
+ Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.

The principal responsibilities of the Tooling Technician include:
- Perform all day-to-day tool room activities, reaction to production demands as directed.
- Capability to Repair dies using basic and advanced equipment (surface grinders, CNC equipment, Machining Center, Wire EDM).
- Experience with CNC Programming using CAD Cam and SolidWorks is a Plus.
- Machinery includes Surface Grinding, Manual Milling, Manual lathes.
- Disassemble, clean and re-assemble complex dies and document findings via PM check sheets.
- Evaluate condition and determine improvements needed in existing dies and communicate those to the Tool-Room leader or Tooling Engineer.
- Follow tooling preventative maintenance procedures.
- Conduct die troubleshooting as needed and Observe tool condition and report for corrections.
- Knowledge of polishing draw dies to minimize the coefficient of friction.
- Works safely and supports Five S initiatives.
- Supports Tool-Room Leader, Production, and Engineering. Has the ability to learn and expand tool room skills and accept new challenges.
- Support overtime thru the week and weekends on rotational basis.
**What You'll Bring to Our Team**
Successful candidates for the Tooling Technician role should have strong die trouble shooting skills, AutoCAD, CAD-CAM experience and be able to work in hot and humid industrial manufacturing environment.
Additional requirements for applicants to the Tooling Technician role include:
- HS diploma or equivalent required. 2-year degree from an accredited technical college or post-secondary school with emphasis in Tool and Die or minimum of five years on the job training with industrial manufacturing facility. Journeyman certification is preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in maintaining or building dies in the stamping industry.
- Good understanding of die maintenance and upkeep.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and die designs.
- Experience and Knowledge of Machining Center, Programming, set- up, and operation is a plus.
- CNC EDM set up and operation experience is a plus.
- Experience as a Machinist, or Die-Maker's Helper is a plus.
- A strong desire to accept tooling challenges and take them on to help the company succeed is a must.

**Responsibilities**
**PURPOSE:** To rebuild and repair production equipment, rebuild tooling, to improve their running condition, along with working on molds and dies that are running in machines in the production area.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Repair and rebuild Production machinery including molds and dies.
+ Make components and changes on existing components in a timely manner and correct to an engineered drawing.
+ Ability to document machined parts with an inspection sheet.
+ Assist the Group Leaders and Lead persons in planning work in the shop.
+ Assist the Group Leaders and Lead persons in sending work to outside vendors.
+ Keep the Tool Room area in a clean and orderly manner.
+ Maintain shop bolt bins, pneumatic, and water fitting supplies
+ Maintain mold cleaning supplies and mold spare parts inventory
+ Train and assist Mold Techs with small insert changes (Bail Pins and UN Inserts)
+ Assign, monitor, and document all insert changes on molds to either mold techs or maintenance.
+ Grade condition of molds
+ Attend bi-weekly Industrial Mold Rebuild Schedule meetings
+ Complete monthly mold inventory
+ Assist with monthly date insert change
+ Assist other departments where your skills are needed.
+ Keep the machines running as efficiently as possiblewhile they are running in production
+ Perform mold cleaning with repairs that are needed.
+ Record in the JDE PEM for PM's and or Lotus Notes work order system any maintenance that is completed on every mold.
+ Inform the Scheduling Department when there is a mold problem that is going to be down for any length of time.
+ Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Group Leaders and Maintenance Manager.
+ Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
+ Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
+ Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
+ Staff are informed and held accountable for their food safety and regulatory responsibilities;
+ Staff are positively encouraged and required to notify management of actual or potential food safety issues; and
+ Staff are empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work.
+ Operate metal or plastic forming equipment.
**Qualifications**
**EDUCATIONAL, SKILL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**
+ High school education / GED equivalent.
+ Certified Journeyman Tool Maker preferred; or willing to complete an apprenticeship program.
+ Ability to lift 75 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day and lift 50-75 lbs. over shoulder height occasionally.
+ Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.
+ Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others. Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
+ Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts.
+ Able to occasionally climb ladders safely and without assistance. Able to work at heights. (With or without fall protection). Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
+ Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.

+ Maintain shop bolt bins, pneumatic, and water fitting supplies
+ Maintain mold cleaning supplies and mold spare parts inventory
+ Train and assist Mold Techs with small insert changes (Bail Pins and UN Inserts)
+ Assign, monitor, and document all insert changes on molds to either mold techs or maintenance.
+ Grade condition of molds
+ Attend bi-weekly Industrial Mold Rebuild Schedule meetings
+ Complete monthly mold inventory
+ Assist with monthly date insert change
+ Assist other departments where your skills are needed.
+ Keep the machines running as efficiently as possible while they are running in production
+ Perform mold cleaning with repairs that are needed.
+ Record in the JDE PEM for PM's and or Lotus Notes work order system any maintenance that is completed on every mold.
+ Inform the Scheduling Department when there is a mold problem that is going to be down for any length of time.
+ Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Group Leaders and Maintenance Manager.
+ Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
+ Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
+ Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
+ Staff are informed and held accountable for their food safety and regulatory responsibilities;
+ Staff are positively encouraged and required to notify management of actual or potential food safety issues; and
+ Staff are empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work.
+ Operate metal or plastic forming equipment.
**Qualifications**
**EDUCATIONAL, SKILL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**
+ High school education / GED equivalent.
+ Certified Journeyman Tool Maker preferred; or willing to complete an apprenticeship program.
+ Ability to lift 75 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day and lift 50-75 lbs. over shoulder height occasionally.
+ Ability to occasionally climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance.
+ Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others. Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
+ Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts.
+ Able to occasionally climb ladders safely and without assistance. Able to work at heights. (With or without fall protection). Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness.
+ Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.
+ Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.
+ Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.
+ Ability to push/pull loads of approx. 75 lbs. at a minimum of 10 times per day/shift.
+ Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10-12-point font at a distance of 12-18 inches. Able to complete an "Ishihara" color vision test.
+ Able to stand/walk for up to 12-hour shift.

**Responsibilities**
+ Exemplifies the Amcor Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Berry inside and outside of the plant.
+ Work in a professional manner with other maintenance personnel and mold technicians as needed to keep all equipment in top working order resulting in only quality product being released to the customer.
+ Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or from the actual part to be copied or fitted.
+ Plans the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
+ Heat treats and welds parts as required.
+ Uses precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during, and after machining.
+ Uses hand tools of the trade for modifications as required.
+ Fits and assembles mold parts, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests molds to produce a product meeting specification, tracing die difficulties to their source and making any necessary modifications.
+ May assist machinists and millwrights in injection molding press overhaul.
+ May assist product designers by providing information about potential manufacturing difficulties with new product designs.
+ Various other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years industrial maintenance, manufacturing, technical school &/or Associates degree from an accredited technical institute or combination education and experience.

A Tooling Technician in a plant is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the proper functioning of tools, molds, jigs, fixtures, and other equipment used in manufacturing processes.


A Tooling Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that manufacturing processes run smoothly and
efficiently, contributing to the overall productivity and quality of the plant.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Tool Maintenance and Repair: Inspecting tools and equipment to identify wear, damage, or malfunctions. Performing routine maintenance and repairs to keep them in optimal working condition,
  • Tool Setup and Calibration: Setting up tools and equipment for production runs, ensuring they are properly calibrated and aligned to produce parts within specified tolerances. Inspect new tools according to company standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing issues with tools and equipment during production and implementing solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Fabrication and Modification: Modifying existing tools or fabricating new ones to meet specific production needs. This may involve working with various materials and using machines like lathes, mills, and grind.
  • Documentation and Records: Keeping detailed records of maintenance activities, tool usage, and
    repairs. Ensuring that all tools and equipment are compliant with safety and quality standards.
    Maintain all related documentation to TS16949 standards. Maintain all standard work including Mold
    Tag System, Mold Storage Standards, etc.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, production managers, and other technicians to
    optimize tooling performance and support continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure there are no
    quality or production interruptions or errors due to lack of giving or seeking information.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working
    environment. Ensuring that all tools and equipment meet industry standards and regulations. Safely
    operate crane to handle tools. Follow lockout/tagout procedures as well as safety rules 100% of the
    time. Take action to promptly correct or remove all workplace hazards and unsafe work conditions.
  • Training and Support: Providing training and support to production staff on the proper use and
    maintenance of tools and equipment.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is the minimum requirement. Preference for
    those candidates with any certificates or diplomas from a technical or vocational school in fields such as machining, tool and die making, or mechanical engineering

Skills and Experience:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using machining tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC
    machines. Understanding of tooling principles, materials, and processes. Ideally 3-5 years Tool and
    Die Repair experience.
    • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to troubleshoot
    and repair tools and equipment. Ability to operate milling machine, lathe, band saw, and other tool
    shop machinery.
    • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions to minimize
    downtime and ensure smooth operations.
    • Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining tools to ensure
    high-quality production.
    • Blueprint Reading : Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
    Computer Skills: Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and computer-aided
    manufacturing (CAM) software can be beneficial.
    Communic ation Skills: Effective communication with engineers, production staff, and other
    technicians to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
    Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working
    environment.
    Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform tasks that require
    manual dexterity. Must be able to climb and crawl to make adjustments to tools while in press.
