SUMMARY

The Director of Performance Engineering will lead the testing and performance assessment functions for utility- scale PV projects . This role supports design optimization and fulfillment of performance targets as well as oversees the performance testing and data analysis of solar PV and solar-plus- storage systems . The Director will ensure that all projects meet performance standards , adhere to regulatory requirements , and deliver maximum efficiency . The role involves close collaboration with internal engineering , construction , and operations teams , as well as external clients and stakeholders . Reporting to the Head of Front End Engineering, this leader will manage resources, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and engage with multiple stakeholders to ensure that the business objectives are achieved. This position is remote, and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position is expected to travel up to 20%.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the commissioning process for PV and PV-plus-storage projects, ensuring that all system components, from inverters to energy storage systems, are installed, tested, and integrated into the grid as per industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, electrical standards, and performance benchmarks.
  • Develop and implement performance models to assess the efficiency of PV systems and identify areas for improvement.
  • Utilize advanced tools such as PVsyst, SAM, and other modeling software to benchmark actual performance against expected results.
  • Collaborate with the data analytics team to process and analyze large datasets for performance insights and system optimization.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to review designs, specifications, and technical documentation, ensuring that system designs are optimized for performance and reliability.
  • Engage with the construction team to ensure the systems are installed correctly, and all testing and commissioning activities are coordinated and executed efficiently.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the testing and performance phase.
  • Provide regular updates on system performance, address client concerns, and offer solutions to any issues that arise during testing or commissioning.
  • Lead client negotiations on performance guarantees and ensure client satisfaction through successful project delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing system performance, reducing operational inefficiencies, and incorporating the latest technology and best practices in PV and BESS performance testing.
  • Identify new tools and methodologies to enhance testing and performance evaluation processes.
  • Lead the post-construction performance verification process, ensuring that systems meet performance guarantees.
  • Oversee any warranty-related work, including troubleshooting and performance diagnostics, to address issues that may arise post commissioning.
  • Provide technical guidance to the engineering and field teams, ensuring that all testing and performance activities adhere to industry standards and best practices.
  • Assist in developing technical documentation, such as test plans, commissioning reports, and performance assessments.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to performance shortfalls, commissioning delays, and testing non-compliance.
  • Ensure all testing activities meet regulatory requirements, including environmental standards, grid interconnection rules, and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to develop automated reporting tools that provide real-time performance data to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that performance reports are clear, accurate, and actionable, allowing project teams and clients to make informed decisions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of performance engineers and analysts, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Perform other duties and special projects , as assigned by Management
  • Provide regular feedback, performance reviews, and opportunities for professional development to ensure the team remains at the cutting edge of solar performance assessment.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives for the Executive Planning Office D epartment.
  • Oversee the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to testing, commissioning, and performance verification processes.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations during all testing and commissioning activities.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional team meetings to ensure alignment between engineering, construction, and operations teams.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, advancements in testing technologies, and regulatory changes that impact PV and BESS projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering , Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in engineering , Data Science, or Energy Systems.
  • Required: 10 + years of solid experience in utility-scale PV and BESS engineering, energy performance assessment, testing and commissioning .
  • Required: Experience managing cross-functional teams and leading performance-focused initiatives
  • Required: Advanced understanding and professional use of solar PV and BESS system performance metrics and modeling tools ( e.g ., PVsyst, SAM , P vlib , SolarFarmer , etc. ).
  • Required: Demonstrated experience with commissioning, performance analysis, testing (System Acceptance Test, Capacity Test, Performance Ratio Test, Availability Test, etc. ) for utility-scale PV and BESS projects.
  • Required: Experience in coordinating Independent Engineers and Owners Engineers to support project tax-equity, financing and performance testing
  • Required: Expertise in data analysis, performance modeling, and real-time system monitoring tools. Strong in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced knowledge of MS Excel

GM's Infrastructure Engineering organization seeks a Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead strategy, planning, execution, and reporting for cloud capacity and performance engineering projects spanning multiple teams.
This role focuses on shaping the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) cloud infrastructure strategy, advising on budget-impact decisions, and delivering expert guidance on capacity planning and performance to a broad group of stakeholders. You will drive both strategic and hands-on programs, collaborating closely with executives and technical leaders to ensure projects are executed smoothly with clear, measurable outcomes.
We are seeking a TPM who demonstrates strength in three key areas:
+ **Technical Expertise:** Strong background in cloud infrastructure platforms with a focus on cost optimization/utilization improvements to support AI/ML workloads and tools at scale in the cloud.
+ **Program Management:** Has hands-on experience directing cross-functional, highly technical programs while tracking and reporting on progress, resourcing requirements, and risks
+ **Communication:** Can clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, building trust and ensuring understanding among stakeholders
**What you'll be doing:**
+ Lead the planning, tracking, and reporting of engineering execution across a large 200+ engineer organization
+ Drive cloud cost efficiency and capacity planning initiatives by partnering with teams across AV engineering, infrastructure, product, and finance
+ Own cross-departmental technical programs that ensure cloud resource provisioning, deployment milestones, and ongoing performance are aligned to both business needs and budgetary objectives
+ Develop, communicate, and execute quarterly and annual roadmaps for cloud infrastructure, prioritizing cost optimization, resource efficiency, and resolving performance bottlenecks
+ Continually improve processes for proactive capacity management, including regular forecasting, Budget vs Actual reporting, usage metrics instrumentation, and showback/chargeback systems
+ Standardize and publish engineering KPIs for cloud efficiency and cost across multiple levels (platform, cluster, job), and drive adoption of new tools and dashboards for stakeholders
+ Assess and mitigate risks related to cloud scalability, system performance limitations, and cost overages; manage responses to abnormal usage patterns and support major DR scenarios
+ Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and other groups to identify, measure, and communicate areas of inefficiency, and drive targeted improvements
+ Serve as a primary technical point of contact for CPE programs, translating technical requirements into actionable plans, tracking dependencies, and ensuring executive-level transparency for progress, risks, and results
**Additional Job Description**
**Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)**
+ 8+ years of experience in software engineering organizations
+ Several years of experience as a TPM or in a comparable role driving cloud infrastructure, capacity planning, and efficiency or performance engineering at scale (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure, or large SaaS environments)
+ Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple functions without direct authority; strong influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
+ Experience designing and implementing cost optimization processes and metrics, including leading budget/planning cycles and reporting to executive audiences
+ Deep familiarity with agile methods, roadmap planning, and program tooling (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
+ Technical fluency in infrastructure architecture concepts, performance bottleneck identification, and cloud developer workflows
+ Strong data analysis skills and comfort with metrics instrumentation, dashboarding, and KPI standardization
+ Ability to quickly break down complex technical or organizational problems, set clear goals, and drive teams toward sustainable improvements

+ Experience collaborating with infrastructure vendors and managing contract and renewal cycles
+ Advanced knowledge and experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
**_Compensation_** **:** The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
+ The salary range for this role is $165,000to $298,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
+ Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
