Adjunct faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing high quality learning experiences for all Cleveland Community College students. Adjunct faculty report to a dean or vice president and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the College.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Teach on and off campus classes as assigned, including online, Career and College Promise and Early College High School.

2. Teach appropriate course content.

3. Follow course syllabus.

4. Check and answer email multiple times each week.

5. Be available via traditional or electronic means for assistance, for responding to questions, or otherwise assisting the students in a timely manner (response times must be reflected in the course syllabus and those response times must be adhered to).

6. Maintain Web attendance; complete by the published deadline.

7. Submit grades, grade history reports, and other required reports on time.

8. Require completion of student evaluations.

9. Allow and encourage participation in other College-required surveys (i.e. CCSSE).

10. Participate in College-required training.

11. Ensure the accessibility of all course content and activities to maximize learning opportunities for every student.

12. Remain current on methods of teaching with technology and incorporate instructional technologies to augment instructional delivery and facilitate learning.

13. Use the College Learning Management System to deliver online instruction, enhance on campus instruction in all classes, and post the course syllabus and other handouts.

14. Ensure quality by complying with all criteria in the adopted course evaluation template for online and hybrid courses.

15. Follow the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) privacy requirements when disseminating student information.

16. Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a collegial environment.

17. Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incident to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Official documentation of credentials and degrees may be requested; degrees are recognized only if earned at an accredited institution.
* Preferred NCCER certification, or willing to be certified within 6 months of being hired.
* Preferred teaching experience related to the discipline.

This is technical work inspecting construction projects for compliance with applicable building codes. The work requires knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures used to inspect construction projects, which are gained through specialized training and job experiences. Contacts require influencing people's behavior and assertiveness when issuing citations to enforce compliance with applicable code regulations. The work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards requiring use of judgment. Work is performed in a field environment where risks and hazards are substantial, but are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Operates standard office equipment such as telephone and laptop computer, motor vehicle, hand tools, and standard measuring devices. The physical demands consist of driving, sitting, climbing, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The work is performed under limited supervision where assignments are subject to established practices and procedures covered by methods and techniques and reviewed for quality, adherence to established methods, standards and policies.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
  • If not already certified by the State of Florida as an Electrical Inspector, must process an application for a provisional State of Florida Certificate as a Building Inspector within one (1) month of appointment.
  • Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of appointment a provisional State of Florida Certificate as an Electrical Inspector.
  • Must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months of receiving provisional certification, a standard State of Florida Certificate as an Electrical Inspector.
  • Once the provisional certification is obtained must maintain same or standard certification during employment in this class.
  • Must possess a City of Jacksonville Journeyman or Master Electrician Certificate or be a State Certificate Electrical Contractor which must be maintained during employment in this class.
  • A valid Florida Class E Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
