Minimum Qualifications:
Eligible for Career and Technical Education Work-Based Learning teacher certification in carpentry, to obtain: Four years of demonstrated work experience as a residential or commercial carpenter.
Company owner/manager experience only does not meet experience requirement for this area of certification.
Cabinetry/roofing/framing alone does not qualify.
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade
Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student assessment strategies preferred
Desire to work in a collaborative educational environment and dedication to providing quality instruction
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Skills in interpersonal relations with students, parents, teachers, staff and the general public
Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
Industry certification required by the end of year 1: NCCER Commercial Carpenter Certificate or NCCER Craft Instructor Certificate or SC LLR Residential Builder License
Satisfactory background report
SALARY RANGE: Teacher Salary Schedule for the school year.
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 190 days, in accordance with the Rock Hill School's adopted calendar. For the school year, the contract days will be pro-rated based on the approved start date.
START DATE: Determined by Human Resources

Summary
Under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher, the Paraprofessional collaborates with the Teacher to help implement and reinforce effective programs that focus on student behavior and classroom engagement. Incumbents in this position will assist the classroom teacher by actively engaging with students in classroom activities and individual instruction to help achieve overall student academic growth.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general supervision from higher-level staff. Exercises supervision of students in the classroom to ensure behavior aligns with established school guidelines and policies.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This classification is responsible for planning and implementing behavioral strategies and interventions and ensuring a safe environment for participants. Incumbents in this position rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned program area. Incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
- Work directly with students to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher.
- Meet and assist the teacher in developing and devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on understanding of individual student needs, interest, and abilities.
- Carry out classroom instructional support and activities as directed by the teacher.
- Participate in ongoing construction/horticulture projects offering guidance and assistance.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment which is conducive to student learning and achievement.
- Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties consistent with the job goal of student safety and learning.
- Alert the classroom teacher or administrator to any problem, or special information about an individual student(s).
Education and Experience:
- Must have successfully earned a Bachelor or Associate degree from an accredited college or university OR have taken and passed the Work Keys test prior to June 1, 2017. After June 1, 2017, must have ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a passing score of 460.
- Previous experience in construction trades or horticulture preferred.
- CPI Certified preferred.
- Knowledge of the use of tools both power and non-power commonly used in construction trades and horticulture preferred.
- Knowledge of behavioral intervention approaches such as positive reinforcement, de-escalation techniques, and conflict resolution methods.
- Understanding of student development to help support students at different stages.
- Basic knowledge of technology used in the classroom and how it functions to assist with instructional support or administrative tasks when needed.
- Maintain good rapport and work cooperatively and professionally with students, parents, teachers, and administration.
- Establish and maintain positive effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Utilize mathematical concepts related to students' education such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Problem solve when needed in relation to seeking solutions to students to help identify strategies to maximize students' overall growth.
- Respond to emergencies effectively and follow school protocol to ensure student safety.
- Recognize and respond effectively to unique learning styles by adapting instructional strategies when necessary to help students' growth.
- Provide specialized assistance to students with learning disabilities.
- Speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

Working Conditions
Incumbents may be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
