Job PurposeThe purpose of the Tractor Trailer Driver position is to transport, deliver and retrieve assorted construction and heavy equipment and to support the needs of the branch in a professional, safe and timely manner. An individual in this position will operate both commercial and non-commercial vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. He/she performs at a high standard of quality level within the branch and outside of the branch. He/she has mastered the operating standards of the facility, the region and corporation.
What you will do.- Transport, deliver and retrieve assorted construction and heavy equipment
- Operate commercial or non-commercial vehicles in a safe, efficient and professional manner
- Promote professionalism and excellent customer service attitude
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after pickups and deliveries
- Ensure all delivery documents are properly maintained during the workday and are available for inspection upon request by management and/or state traffic safety officers
- Apply knowledge of driving and/or commercial driving skills in maneuvering at various speeds in difficult locations, heavy traffic, inclement weather, mountainous terrain or tight loading dock areas
- Secure construction equipment and other equipment by means of chaining, strapping, and blocking under the strict accordance and established procedures of the DOT policies
- Maintain open communication with Branch Manager and/or central dispatch for delivery schedules
- Observe safety rules and regulations at customer job sites, facilities and other Herc Rentals related facilities
- Provide training assistance for customers by answering general questions regarding the safe operations of vehicles, tools, or machinery when asked by customer
- Report to the branch manager or central dispatcher of any damage to Herc Rentals property that is uncovered by the driver during the process of picking up the equipment from the customer
- Report any and all accidents involving the driver or equipment to Branch Manager or Central Dispatch
- Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic conditions, or any other problems relating to timely pickups or delivery of equipment
- Maintain flexibility in daily routine in order to respond to Management's responses to the customer demands
- Ensure proper paperwork & logs are maintained accurately on a daily basis
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of tractor trailer driving experience within the last three years
- Commercial Driver's License, Class A, with tanker endorsement
- Current medical card
- Hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment. Assistance will be provided.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 LBs
- Ability to operate large, heavy machinery
- Ability to secure loads safely
- Customer service skills

Job Description
This employee operates designated tractor-trailer combinations for extended periods of time, over long distances between company facilities, terminals, or worksites to pickup, transport, and deliver freight in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. As part of this function, Tractor Trailer drivers drop, hook, spot, or otherwise interchange equipment for loading or unloading at various locations under varied conditions. Tractor Trailer Drivers are subject to the Hours of Service Regulations of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT).
Education/Experience:
- Education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma is required
- Ability to be self-supervised and complete assigned task
- Position requires essential time management, communication, and organizational skills
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Semi-Trailer, Hazmat, and Tanker endorsement

I. Job Summary
Safely operates a heavy-duty truck to perform assigned duties on transfer routes.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

Operates vehicle in accordance with Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as well as all local, state and federal requirements and Company expectations for the Fleet; maintains a clean and safe vehicle.

Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair.

Immediately reports any unsafe situations or service calls to Operations Manager or Dispatch before attempting service.

Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Operations Manager.

Works closely with Operations Managers to improve route efficiencies and identify problem or unsafe accounts.

Performs all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch, assisting other company drivers as directed.

Notifies Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.

Notifies Dispatch or Operations Manager of issues as prescribed by Service Machine protocol, including blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that arise on the route.

Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Operations Manager.
-
Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer's location clean and free of debris.

Completes and submits customer tickets when excess yardage must be removed.

Positions containers on the customer's property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced, containers are set in an upright position, and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic.

Follows route assignments throughout the day and completes all documentation when checking-in at the end of the route.

What you will do.- Transport, deliver and retrieve assorted construction and heavy equipment
- Operate commercial or non-commercial vehicles in a safe, efficient and professional manner
- Promote professionalism and excellent customer service attitude
- Perform vehicle inspections before and after pickups and deliveries
- Ensure all delivery documents are properly maintained during the workday and are available for inspection upon request by management and/or state traffic safety officers
- Apply knowledge of driving and/or commercial driving skills in maneuvering at various speeds in difficult locations, heavy traffic, inclement weather, mountainous terrain or tight loading dock areas
- Secure construction equipment and other equipment by means of chaining, strapping, and blocking under the strict accordance and established procedures of the DOT policies
- Maintain open communication with Branch Manager and/or central dispatch for delivery schedules
- Observe safety rules and regulations at customer job sites, facilities and other Herc Rentals related facilities
- Provide training assistance for customers by answering general questions regarding the safe operations of vehicles, tools, or machinery when asked by customer
- Report to the branch manager or central dispatcher of any damage to Herc Rentals property that is uncovered by the driver during the process of picking up the equipment from the customer
- Report any and all accidents involving the driver or equipment to Branch Manager or Central Dispatch
- Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic conditions, or any other problems relating to timely pickups or delivery of equipment
- Maintain flexibility in daily routine in order to respond to Management's responses to the customer demands
- Ensure proper paperwork & logs are maintained accurately on a daily basis
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of tractor trailer driving experience within the last three years
- Commercial Driver's License, Class A, with tanker endorsement
- Current medical card
- Hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment. Assistance will be provided.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 LBs
- Ability to operate large, heavy machinery
- Ability to secure loads safely
- Customer service skills

Pay Range: $1 - 29/hour

Tractor Trailer Drivers are responsible for hauling trailers of waste or recyclables to a disposal site, recycling plant or customer site. This position may require driving in congested and/or confined areas. This position will be required to enter/exit the truck multiple times per day. Tractor Trailer Drivers may also be required to climb to hook/unhook trailers, move items to smooth the load, and secure tarps.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Operates truck in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Timely and efficient pick up of trailers and deliver to designated destination.
- Maintains and updates route sheets.
- Conducts pre-trip/post trip inspections and complete DVIR logs.
- Visually inspect proper load securement.
- Maintain cleanliness of truck cab.
- Maintains and updates Drivers Log sheets.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read and understand a map.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including but not limited to sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting).
- Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
- Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20lbs.
- Continuously sitting.
- Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Occasionally Climbing and/or balancing.
- Continuously Working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
- A valid Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement preferred.
- Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between locations.
- Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
